The Clandestine Quartet 'One for the Fossa, Two for the Wolverine' Vinyl LP

    £21.99

Thirty Three Thirty Three is proud to present the debut LP from the Clandestine Quartet, bringing together Alan and Richard Bishop with Michael Flower and Chris Corsano. Invited to perform in London as part of the St John Sessions series, Alan Bishop rounded up this quartet of underground stalwarts with a deep history of collaborative ventures - the Bishop brothers making up two-thirds of the legendary Sun City Girls, Richard Bishop and Corsano comprising two parts of psychedelic juggernaut Rangda, and the Flower-Corsano Duo having wowed audiences for over a decade with their face-melting brand of eastern-tinged free shred.

The quartet spent four days in the studio developing material for the London show and recording the seven pieces heard here (five across the two sides of the LP, accompanied by two digital bonus tracks). They settled, for the most part, on something approaching a classic rock quartet line-up: Richard Bishop on electric guitar, Michael Flower on his signature amplified Japanese banjo'(an Indian keyed zither), Alan Bishop on bass and Chris Corsano manning the drums. Rather than a straight-up improvised blowing session, the LP strikes a balance between free-flowing spontaneous interaction and structured surprise, alternating between zoned-out group meditations and stop-on-a-dime unison dynamics.

On the epic side-long opener Don't Hang From My Ceiling', a lyrical weave of guitar, bass and Japanese banjo lines approaches the unhurried melodic invention of Indian classical music until Corsano's tumbling, free-form drums incite the quartet into an ecstatic crescendo, over which Richard Bishop's guitar unfurls a euphoric solo that calls to mind the mystical grandeur of prime Popol Vuh.

The B side finds the quartet branching out both in terms of instrumentation and compositional strategies, crafting a suite of pieces that, like classic Sun City Girls, move unexpectedly from tightly locked bass and drum grooves to explosions of free jazz alto saxophone (courtesy of Alan Bishop) and from shimmering guitar jams to massed choirs of horns. (So Long) Harry Dean', one of the record's highlights, finds Richard Bishop on piano, leading the quartet through a languorous series of chords punctuated by Corsano's gracefully ungainly percussive accents, before a sudden blast of reed horn announces a passage of rapid-fire dissonance that seamlessly transitions back into the pianistic meandering of the track's first-half.

Effortlessly balanced between improvisation and composition, melody and noise, rhythm and space, the Clandestine Quartet is a fitting next step for this group of psychedelic troubadours, showing them drawing on their past accomplishments but never content to stand still.

As the year 2020 fast approaches, there still exists a peculiar shortage of music spiritually attuned to these treacherous times. Fortunately Petbrick - the duo comprising Wayne Adams (Big Lad/Death Pedals/Johnny Broke) and Iggor Cavalera Sepultura / Soulwax/ Mixhell) - are exploring fresh lunacy anew whereby electronic experimentation, hardcore attitude, dystopian dread and in-the-red dementia collide and collude to form a uniquely invigorating assault, custom fit for an accelerated age.

This debut employs both members'past experience - Wayne in a variety of musical guises ranging from punk to breakcore and gabba, and Iggor in a planet-straddling metal colossus whose questing spirit played a crucial role in the music's evolution - yet also cheerfully renders them obsolete in a resolutely genre-free onslaught, damaged by the endtime intensity of Ministry and the synapse-shredding mischief of Aphex Twin yet lodged firmly in the here and now.

Moreover, guest vocalists are also on hand to traverse anywhere from full-throttle intensity (as with Full Of Hell's Dylan Walker on the blistering Radiation Facial'or Integrity's legendary vocal exorcist Dwid Hellion on Some Semblance Of A Story') to exhilarating melodic counterpoint (Laima Leyton (Mixhell) on Coming') and stream-of-consciousness lunacy from Warmduscher's Mutado Pintado, whose splenetic tirades on Gringolicker'. Paint-stripping and deliriously potent, I' is more than merely an exercise in the life-affirming flame of oppositional punk spirit scorching all or any musical boundaries in its path - it's an uncompromising soundtrack to a short-circuiting new era. Yet rarely has the sound of global malfunction also been so much fun

Singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Amy Studt has announced that she will release her eagerly awaited new album on Crocodile Records on the 4th of October 2019.

Happiest Girl In The Universe', recorded with Hatcham Social's Toby Kidd, features eleven bold, intimate and heartfelt tracks including the acclaimed singles Sleepwalker'and I Was Jesus In Your Veins'together with the albums eponymous titled closer . Haunting cinematic pop that recalls the drama of the late Scott Walker, the new long player is a narrative diary of depression, hope and redemption and is without doubt one of the most personal and innovative collection of songs that is likely to surface this year.

'This is the work of an artist genuinely using their chosen medium to explore and make sense of their life experience. There's certainly nothing glamorising suffering here'. Aural Aggravation

With parents who are both accomplished classical musicians, Amy Studt's future as a performer was always inevitable and from an really early age she was a proficient pop musician, playing piano, oboe and guitar.  A special talent, at a mere fourteen years of age she was signed to Simon Fuller's roster of artists and then quickly picked up a deal with Polydor Records.

At sixteen she released her first single, Just a Little Girl' which charted at number 14 in the UK pop charts and reached number 1 on US radio play. Her second single Misfit' reached number 6 and this was soon followed by her debut album False Smiles'which went on to sell 260,000 copies.  Leaving Polydor in 2004 at the age of eighteen years, Amy stayed out of the public eye for a while, but in 2006 it was announced that she was working on a new album and she'd re-signed to Simon Fuller's new 19 Entertainment Indie label.  A new album My Paper Made Men' was released in 2008 and after a couple of more singles and the album becoming a cult collectors item, Amy again withdrew from the limelight to a cottage in the countryside.

Shying away from the spotlight and constant touring, she built her own recording studio and spent time playing the odd low-key show and writing and recording the songs that have eventually formed the Happiest Girl In The Universe'record. Returning with a darker and more soulful sound, she is one of the most innovative artists around and is creating some of the most beautifully and inspirational music in the UK right now.

'Studt's always had an exceptional voice and she blows us away with her control and heartfelt emotion with a pure raw vocal which sounds beyond beautiful'.   Celeb Mix

Cold In Berlin 'Rituals Of Surrender'

First vinyl pressing is limited to 500 copies in Transparent Red and Black smoke vinyl. Included is a free CD and download of the whole album.

Main CD package is a 4 panel digipack.

London rockers, Cold In Berlin return with their new album 'Rituals Of Surrender'. Nine slabs of fuzz laden, goth infused doom crossed with post punk attitude and vibe.

Over nine songs you are submerged into the dense, heavy sounds of their fourth album: A witch crawls from the ocean as the world is born looking for a new life, a woman recalls the painful love she needed to feel alive, a man cracks wide open looking for secrets, and love burns two desperate lovers - the songs are filled with heroic and overwhelming loss wrapped in the hope of what comes next.

Produced with gritty clarity and volume by Wayne Adams (Green Lung - Woodland Rites) Rituals of Surrender opens with the grinding, hypnotic pulse of The Power and the apocalyptic rise of Dark Days, the record twists and turns as guitars crash, tempos warp and vocalist Maya stalks your thoughts with her mesmeric vocals. The rituals continue to build through Avalanche and Monsters, an edgy industrial throb and a sweeping prayer. Side A closes with Frantic a frenetic shard of fractured shellac.

When the cut-and-thrust dies down, the album reveals the band at their most fragile. The haunting schadenfreude of Your Body//My Church is a beautiful, desperate love song nestled between the ceremonial Temples and the stoner trip of Shadowman. The album-closer Sacred Ground soars from a place of Lovecraftian foreboding towards an explosion of cinematic-doom.

Their grandest and most poignant piece to date.

This is the debut album release from L'Epée , the band are Emmanuelle Seigner (Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle), Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) & Lionel & Marie Liminana (The Liminanas) . It is very rarely that a musical project lives up to the billing of being a supergroup'. However, the exception to this rule comes in the shape of L'épée.

A stellar combination of the talents of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe, cinematic femme fatale Emmanuelle Seigner and ice-cool pop provocateurs The Liminanas (Lionel and Marie Liminana), L'épée transcend artistic and traditional borders.

'We are living in very culturally insular times, so it feels really good to be swimming against the tide,' says Anton of the band's bi-lingual, cross-continental approach.'There's something really positive about branching out, collaborating and taking risks.' Far from being defeated by a world seemingly regressing into turmoil, L'Epée's strength comes from a long history of challenging the status quo.

From Anton's legendary battles with The Man'with The Brian Jonestown Massacre to Emmanuelle's eclectic screen career to The Liminana's community-minded ethos- setting up their own record shop, L.G.D.C, and promoting gigs by the cream of the world's garage rock scene (New Bomb Turks, Oblivians, Fleshtones, Revelators) -they share a fierce intelligence and an outsider aesthetic which, over the decades, has been sharpened to a razor's edge.

Fitting, then, that their name translates as The Sword. 'It came to me in a dream,' explains Anton. 'I woke up and there it was, The Sword'. Someone told me there had already been a band with that name so I flipped it into French. It suits the band because we're united in a common cause.' This pent-up creative energy has been channelled into their extraordinary debut album, Diabolique. Named in tribute to Mario Bava's 1968 cult classic Danger: Diabolik', it's a musical masterclass where elements of garage, ye-ye, sleaze rock, cult soundtracks, sci-fi, spaghetti westerns and girl-group pop noir are combined with the cut-and-thrust zeal of a band bursting with ideas and energy.

All delivered by Emmanuelle in a sultry Gallic drawl which will send a frisson of recognition through anyone familiar with her iconic roles in, among many others, Frantic, Venus In Fur and Bitter Moon (all directed by her husband, Roman Polanski). 'I've loved rock music since I was a kid,' she says, namechecking Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground and The Stooges as key influences.
'I always wanted to be a musician, but it wasn't so easy in France as I couldn't meet the right people. Then I became a model and then very quickly after that I did Frantic and became an actress. It worked for me, but in my heart I always wanted to do music.'

Having asked close friend Bertrand Belin to provide lyrics for three further tracks (Grande', On Dansait Avec Elle'and Lou'), the trio set to work at The Liminanas'studio in Cabestany, Southern France, in November 2017 -with Emmanuelle, ever the perfectionist, fine-tuning them the following February.

Satisfied with the results, the trio flew to Berlin to hook up with Anton and (Liverpudlian engineer) Andrea Wright at his Cobra Studio in Berlin Utilising a treasure trove of vintage equipment ('I've got way more 60's gear than The Beatles and The Stones had, I'm mad for that stuff', explains the BJM man), Anton set to work, re-recording the drums with Marie and adding -and deleting- tracks so that the shifting layers of sound suited the mood of each individual track.

'I've got plenty of other ways to express myself, so I really enjoyed taking a backseat, creatively,' he explains. 'Lionel is such a great composer. There's a very visual sense to his songs and I was very conscious of not stepping on his intentions too much. There were some really interesting sonic things I would add, like a track of the craziest feedback, to give a song a weird ambient quality. It's the role that Brian Jones had in the Stones, or Warren (Ellis) has in Nick Cave's band. Musically, they're all over the map, but they make things happen.'

'It was so inspiring to see Anton work,' says Emmanuelle of seeing him in action.
'When we sent the songs to him they were good, but they were nothing like how it ended up. He's so talented, like a genius. He made the whole thing darker, more interesting and more psychedelic.'

Chelsea Wolfe has always been a conduit for a powerful energy, and while she has demonstrated a capacity to channel that somber beauty into a variety of forms, her gift as a songwriter is never more apparent than when she strips her songs down to a few key components. As a result, her solemn majesty and ominous elegance are more potent than ever on Birth of Violence.

There is a core element to Chelsea Wolfe's music'a kind of urgent spin on America's desolation blues'that's existed throughout the entirety of her career. At the center, there has always been Wolfe's woeful longing and beguiling gravity, though the framework for compositions has continuously evolved based on whatever resources were available. Her austere beginnings were gradually bolstered by electronics and filled out with full-band arrangements. The music became increasingly dense and more centered around live performances. Her latest album, Birth of Violence, is a return to the reclusive nature of her earlier recordings

'I've been in a state of constant motion for the past eight years or so; touring, moving, playing new stages, exploring new places and meeting new people'an incredible time of learning and growing as a musician and performer,' Wolfe says of the era leading up to Birth of Violence.

'But after a while, I was beginning to lose a part of myself. I needed to take some time away from the road to get my head straight, to learn to take better care of myself, and to write and record as much as I can while I have Mercury in my hands,'as a wise friend put it.'

Birth of Violence is the result of this step out of the limelight. The songs stem from humble beginnings'little more than Wolfe's voice and her Taylor acoustic guitar. Her longtime musical collaborator Ben Chisholm recorded the songs on a makeshift studio and helped fill them out with his modern production treatments and the occasional auxiliary flourish from ongoing contributors Jess Gowrie (drums) and Ezra Buchla (viola).

The album opens with 'The Mother Road,' a harrowing ode to Route 66 that immediately addresses Wolfe's metaphoric white line fever. It explains the nature of the record'the impact of countless miles and perpetual exhaustion'and the desire to find the road back home, back to one's roots. Songs like 'Deranged for Rock & Roll' and 'Highway' offers parallel examinations on the trials and tribulations of her journeys while the ghostly 'When Anger Turns to Honey' serves as a rebuttal to self-appointed judges.

While the record touches upon tradition, it also exists in the present, addressing modern tragedies such as school shootings in the minor-key lullaby 'Little Grave' and the poisoning of the planet on the dark wind-swept ballad 'Erde.'

But the record is at its most poignant when Wolfe withdraws into her own world of enigmatic and elusive autobiography. Much like Alan Ginsberg's hallucinatory long-form poem Howl, the tracks 'Dirt Universe' and 'Birth of Violence' weave together specific references from her past into an esoteric overview of the state of mankind. Though the lyrical minutiae remain secret, the overall power of the language and delivery is bound to haunt the listener with both its grace and tension.

'These songs came to me in a whirlwind and I knew I needed to record them soon, and also really needed a break from the road,' Wolfe says.
'I've spent the past few years looking for the feeling of home; looking for places that felt like home. The result of that humble approach yields Wolfe's most devastating work to date.

Triumvirate = the combined power of a group of three in creative collaboration.

CARTER TUTTI VOID (Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Nik Void) have an-nounced their third and final studio album Containing all new studio recordings, Triumvirate brings Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Nik Void's collaborative partnership as Carter Tutti Void to a conclusion.

The trio first came together as a collective for a live performance, invited by Mute for the Short Circuit Festival in 2011 and released their acclaimed debut, the live album Transverse the following year. Carter Tutti Void went on to release f(x) (Industrial Records, 2015), their first studio recording and performed a handful of selected shows, culminating in their final live performance in Hull, part of a series of events for Hull City of Culture 2017 centred around the COUM Transmissions retrospective at Humber Street Gallery.

For some time Carter, Tutti and Void have been awaiting an opportunity when all three artists were able to gather at Carter and Tutti's Studio47 in Norfolk, where the album was recorded, produced and mastered. Triumvirate was approached with the improvisational spirit of previous Carter Tutti Void albums.

The rhythms, created by Chris Carter, formed the foundation and starting point from which the process began of melding the live instrumentation of Cosey Fanni Tutti and Nik Void's searing guitars, vocals, effects and the arsenal of sounds each had amassed from a variety of sources, some sounds manipulated to extremes, all fed into the mix. Tying the album together is the power of three, and a free open approach to sound shared by the trio.

Chris Carter recently released his first solo album in 17 years, Chris Carter's Chemistry Lessons Vol. 1 (Mute, 2018) and Cosey Fanni Tutti's TUTTI, her first album since 1982, came out ear-lier this year on Conspiracy International (home of Chris and Cosey since 1982). Nik Void is currently working on her debut solo album.

Gnoomes, the Russian outfit who blend a potent mix of psychedelic stargaze, kraut techno and kosmiche pop return with a brand new album, MU! their third for Rocket Recordings.

Since the release of their last album Tschak! the three piece has turned into a quartet with synth player Masha Piankova joining the band. And it was the success of their tours in the UK and Europe that subconsciously created a template and tone for where the band would go next with this new album; to capture that surging drive and throbbing assault of their pulverising live shows.

'We decided to make this record more live and less electronic,' Sasha, singer and guitarist from Gnoomses said. 'We were thinking about how to make it sound more dynamic.' Masha's introduction was a key one, with her replacing Sasha on synth bass whilst he moved over to second guitar to add a fuller and more impactful sonic crunch. MU! has been part recorded in the same old soviet radio station where the band recorded Tschak! part in a professional studio and then part at home. This was to ensure the best capture of Gnoomes live assault.

The results brim with a magnitude and sense of coherence that belies some of the environment it was created in. Fuzz-driven guitars shift in engulfing waves, resembling shoegaze giants at their most ferocious, whilst elsewhere layered vocals stack on top of one another, weaving between pristine melody and augmented discordance.

Whilst the glacial electronics and coldwave tendencies that soaked much of their previous album may be more absent here, this record pulses with an electronic tinge that bubbles more subtly under the surface of immersive guitars
The title Mu! has Japanese origins and comes from Zen Buddhism - something Sasha began to practice during past trying times - meaning both 'no' and 'nothingness' and the understanding that the acceptance of this concept can lead to enlightenment. 'For me personally it's a spiritual record,' he says.

Although any sonic warbles of new age blandness couldn't be further from the end results here. This is a cleansing record, no doubt, but one that washes over you with both brutal force and deft subtleness. With the completion of this album, it also wraps up a trio of records all connected via punctuation - Ngan! Tschak! Mu! - but with one each distinct in its own tone and sense of evolution.

From Bowie to The Cure to Moderat, musical history is peppered with great musical trilogies and now Gnoomes'Exclamation Mark Trilogy can be added to that.

Balina is a duo that carries the elements from various musical parallel universes like prog rock, math rock, psychedelia, stoner rock and swing jazz with the flavours of modern heavy metal and Turkish roots. Their music contains a blend of raw and dark tunes with the help of dynamic sound brought by the feat of drum and guitar.

Duo has founded in late 2011 in Izmir Turkey as Alican Oyke on guitars and Burçin Esin on drums, who are also the old bandmates from local post hardcore band Soygun.

After their first self released 2013 record Balina'and the sequent performances which includes an opening up for Mogwai in their 2015 Istanbul gig too; they quickly became one of the accepted modern-heavy faces of Turkey's current sub cultural music scene.

After following performances mostly held in Istanbul they made a reappearance with their second studio work Kaybetmenin Mitolojisi'which was released by Ada Müzik (Fikret Ka±za±lok, Faza±l Say, Bülent Ortaçgil, Zen, Nekropsi, Replikas and more) in late 2017. This time, their music tells a conceptual psychedelic urban story, stuck between the sea and the rocks.

Islam Chipsy & EEK 'Kahraman' Vinyl LP

    £16.99

A three-way force of nature from Cairo, Egypt described by those who've been caught in the eye of their storm as one of the most exciting live propositions on the planet. 'Islam Chipsy's performances have been the stuff of legend outside Egypt for several years now, thanks to the circulation of various still breathtaking YouTube clips of his group EEK - ¦ in unbridled hyper-kinetic flow at gigs, weddings and street parties, as well as a series of international shows spoken of evangelically by those lucky enough to have seen them - ¦

They push at boundaries of dance-based music that are widely known and understood - ¦ It is astonishing, exhilarating, inventive music by any measure' ' The Wire.

"You best get up off your ass to dance or get the hell out of the way!" ' Alan Bishop (Sublime Frequencies/Sun City Girls).

"Bordering on overwhelming - ¦ The beats are played at hyperspeed by two drummers who can switch styles and tempos without dropping a beat, adept at providing a rigid framework for a virtuoso keyboard player whose individual technique includes firing out bewilderingly fast blasts of tone clusters deployed by punching, slapping and karate-chopping his keyboard at such a frightening speed that his hands become a blur of movement. A truly unique experience" ' The Guardian.

  • Traxman 'Tekvision Vol.2' Vinyl LP

    Teklife

    Traxman 'Tekvision Vol.2' Vinyl LP

    £12.49

Tekvision Volume 1 was a stone cold classic, with Rolling Stone charting it at #3 in their top 20 EDM records of 2017. Two years on, Cornelius Traxman'Ferguson returns with the second instalment, featuring 7 exceptional new Footwork productions.

Traxman is a bonafide OG, with a discography dating back to the halcyon era of Ghetto House in the late 80's and early 90's. 30 years on, Traxman is a revered figure in Chicago's urban music scene, having presided over the evolution from Ghetto House to Juke and from Juke to Footwork culture. Originally released in 1989, Work Dat Mutha Fucker by Steven Poindexter is considered to be one of the most influential tracks from the early days of Ghetto House.

Traxman remixes it brilliantly on this release, reworking the stripped back, minimalist drum beat of the original into an upfront Footwork pattern. This sense of continuity is equally evident on Let Me See You Naked feat. DJ Juicy, and Traxman's remix of To Da Hoooz by DJ Deeon.

These productions successfully capture the sexual energy and exuberance of Ghetto House, turbo charged at 160 BPM. Elsewhere on the record, Traxman explores different moods whilst always keeping the dance floor firmly in mind. The opening track It's Lasting Bass lays an infectious vocal harmony over complex drum patterns and a fearsome bassline.

Osaka opens with mellow, sultry keys before introducing a wobbling synth and diced up Orchestal samples. 4 Da Lyfe is a soulful and slightly more meditative track, with a vocal loop expressing solidarity and self-affirmation. Wildcard feat. Jana Rush, stands alone as the only track without a vocal element, instead utilising a piercing and insistent synth to create a powerful sonic intensity.

Overall this is triumphant record, and a worthy successor to the original Tekvision release, proving once again that Traxman is an unrivalled exponent of MPC-driven footwork energy.

    Tracklisting:
    1. IT'S LASTING BASS
    2. LET ME SEE YOU NAKED (Feat. DJ Juicy)
    3. WORK DAT MUTHA FUCKA (footwork remixx) (Feat.Steve Poindexter)
    4. TO DA HOZZZZ (remixx)(Feat. DJ Deeon)

  • Mr. Mitch 'Not Modular' Vinyl 12

    PRESSURE

Mr. Mitch 'Not Modular' Vinyl 12" - Blue and Yellow

    £10.99

LTD to 300 / SPLATTER VINYL.

Planet Mu Recording artist, Gobstopper label boss, and Boxed club night founder Mr.Mitch provides the third PRESSURE release of 2019. This strictly limited, blue and yellow splattered vinyl platter is futurist dancehall at its most exhilaratingly demented.

Random synth patterns, chaotic bleep emissions and all round oscillating madness ensures this furiously fresh track, flows freakily, like a bogle frenzied droid transmitting from Kingston, Jamaica, year 2049.

Kevin Martin aka The Bug, nagged Mitch into submission, to release this Acid Ragga killer, after the PRESSURE label CEO, heard Not Modular'standing out clearly from Mitch's gobsmacking one hour Techno Dancehall Mix'at the end of 2018. And as a tribute to South East London don dada Mitch, The Bug himself decided to slice, splice and dice 'Not Modular'into two additional atomised remixes.

The Bug's  Straight'remix, is sub aquatic bashment, pulsating deeply from the bottom of the ocean, buried in a blizzard of white noise and disembodied, hypnotic chimes, with panic sirens set to stun.

Whilst the Raw remix'is no less disorientating and funky, sounding like Lenky's classic Diwali'riddim rewritten by an 808 clap addict, with hips set to full rotation.

    Conclusively alien and ridiculously infectious.

    Tracklisting:
    Side A:
    1. Not Moduar;

    Side B:
    3. Not Modular (The Bug 'Straight' Remix)
    2. Not Modulare (The Bug Raw'Remix)

    Merge Records

    Hollie Cook 'Vessel Of Love'

    £11.99

Hollie Cook combines her unique vocal talent and charisma to craft a dynamic strand of lovers rock with enduring tropical vibes, weaving a path from her West London roots to an arena of diverse collaborations, critically acclaimed records, and iconic live appearances around the world. Cook's ability to surprise, delight, and progress solidifies her position as one of the most exciting voices in reggae, and this is clear on her third full-length and Merge debut, Vessel of Love.

Cook's music career commenced at age 19, when family friend and punk trailblazer Ari Up asked Cook to join the raucous '70s post-punk outfit The Slits for their reformation in 2006. Thrown into the deep end she thrived, and quickly cut her teeth with four years of back-to-back shows around the globe. Her talents recognized and nurtured, she then released her first solo album Hollie Cook in 2011, with a revered 2012 dub album follow-up, while singles such as 'Milk & Honey' and 'That Very Night' gained support from influential radio stations across Europe.

After performing at The Stone Roses concert at Manchester's Heaton Park at the personal request of Ian Brown, and her hypnotic performance on the prestigious Later - ¦With Jools Holland, the way was paved for Hollie's solo career. By the end of 2014, Jamie T had requested her support for his Alexandra Palace show and featured her on his track 'They Told Me It Rained.' Cook had also unleashed Twice via Mr. Bongo Records, and with Mike 'Prince Fatty' Pelanconi once again aiding in the album's conception, Cook confidently delivered her follow-up to a well-received debut.

Hollie hit the road with both The Skints and Protoje, and lent her vocal talent to Quantic's 'Shuffle Them Shoes' single, which also featured on his 1000 Watts album. Acclaimed legendary producer Martin 'Youth' Glover (Killing Joke) is Cook's most recent collaborator, lending his venerable production expertise to Vessel of Love.

Hollie Cook sits in good company on Glover's impressive production list, joining Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, The Verve, Primal Scream, Pink Floyd, and Depeche Mode. Glover describes Cook's songs as 'sharp lyrical observations and clever word play combined with an exquisite and informed pop sensibility.' Hollie Cook's vibrant, spirited take on lovers rock radiates positivity, and with Vessel of Love, expect to see her on top of the tropical throne of pop in 2018!

  • Keiji Haino & Charles Hayward 'A Loss Permitted...' Vinyl LP

    Thirty Three Thirty Three

Keiji Haino & Charles Hayward 'A Loss Permitted...' Vinyl LP

    £21.99

'A Loss Permitted To Open Its Eyes For But Three Hours And There Glimpsed, Finally In Focus A Mystery That Begs Earnestly, "Ask Me Nothing" Now, Once More The Problem Is Yours Alone.'

Experimental music pioneer Keiji Haino, one of the most mysterious and influential figures to emerge from the Japanese psychedelic underground, teams up with Charles Hayward, British drummer and founding member of This Heat and Camberwell Now, on a new live album released on Thirty Three Thirty Three.

A loss permitted... (the full title of the record is the above poem in its entirety) comprises a live recording of the duo's improvised performance at the Copeland Gallery in London in July 2016, presented as part of Thirty Three Thirty Three's performance series Japan: London.

The result is fascinating: a mix of air synths, distortions, improvised Japanese poetry and warped guitar sounds. Sedate harmonica and guitar sections give way to cosmic din or an equally unnerving silence, in a performance ALL ABOUT JAZZ described as having no sense of logic, only silence where the tension seemed to build, then finally release'.

It's not the first time Haino and Hayward have worked together - Hayward's rare album Double Agent(s) documents their improvisational sparring live in Japan in 1998.

Both are restless collaborators: Haino has played with Derek Bailey, Tony Conrad, Jim O'Rourke, Pan Sonic and Stephen O'Malley, as well as in his own groups Fushitsusha, Nazoranai and Nijiumu, among others; while Hayward's collaborators have included Fred Frith, Thurston Moore and Laura Cannell.

A loss permitted - ¦ sees these two visionary musicians revisit their partnership, creating a sound that is at turns contemplative and ferocious - and always completely compelling.

The Lemonheads 'Can't Forget / Wild Child' Vinyl 7"

    £10.99

LTD pressing of AA 7" single. 1000 pressed.

'No strangers to a cover, The Lemonheads perfect the art' NME

Limited edition pressing of AA 7' single, Can't Forget'is the lead single, and Yo La Tengo cover, from the new Lemonheads album. AA-side is unreleased cover of Lou Reed's Wild Child'this is an exclusive and not on the album.

Produced by Matthew Cullen and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Beastie Boys, Nirvana, The Ramones).

It's nearly ten years since The Lemonheads strummed to a halt on their ninth studio album, a perky well received set of covers that brought together many unlikely bedfellows (Gibby Haynes produced, Kate Moss did a cameo vocal).

The band's follow up repeats the formula with Evan way out upfront, his emotive slow maturing vocal making sense of another wide-beam playlist. He really has become one of the great expressive singers.

The Bevis Frond 'Vavona Burr' Viny 2xLP - White

    £25.49

1000 only. 20th anniversary 2LP edition on white vinyl and with new artwork.

'Another collection of self-recorded, plays-every-instrument-pop/psych-rock' All Music.

A special 20th anniversary reissue out on double LP limited edition white vinyl that comes with new artwork. It's end of the millennium music, an album from 1999 when we were all convinced that Y2K was going to take out the whole planet at midnight on December 31.

It's The Bevis Frond's 17th studio album, filled with half recalled dreams and acquaintances - there's Don Lang (a 1950s trombonist who died earlier in the decade), there's Jesus (an omnipresent head who danced barefoot at all those Roundhouse gigs in the 70s), there's Wilson, Kepple And Betty doing the One Leg Sand Dance', Che Guevara, John And Yoko, Joe The Dealer, there's the girl in In Your Eyes'who couldn't make breaking up any harder.

This is introspection at its best, a lo-fi mighty personal verse with a huge aching chorus.
