    Consumer Electronics 'Airless Space'

Consumer Electronics return with a double album of all new studio recordings produced by Russell Haswell.

Some wondered how the songwriting team of Philip Best and Sarah Froelich would fare after the leaving their London home to take up residency in the United States.

Well, here's the answer. Recorded in San Francisco, CE deliver 'Airless Space,' a state-of-the-union address that does for our American cousins what the band's earlier 'Estuary English' album did for a British audience poised upon the coming madness of Brexit.

Unusually for CE, 'Airless Space' clocks in at 60 minutes, a hexed induction for a country labouring under a presidency, that like Brexit itself, few saw coming or contemplated having to endure.

Soundwise, CE have maybe mellowed the tone a touch, allowing their electronics to stretch out and breathe, whereas the frenzied and anxious vocals of Best and Froelich remain as snatched and breathless as ever.

Stunningly produced by Russell Haswell and gorgeously mastered by award-winning cutting engineer Matt Colton, 'Airless Space' by Consumer Electronics is their most complete and rounded statement yet.

Available on high quality 180gm double vinyl with full colour lyric poster and CD digipack.

    Fu Manchu 'Godzilla"s/Eatin" Dust +4'

    £9.99

Godzilla's/Eatin'Dust is the most popular release in Fu Manchu's 29 year recorded history. It is the combination of what were originally 2 distinct 10' releases: Godzilla (1997) and Eatin'Dust (1999).

Last year, Scott Hill (vocals/guitar) found the original tapes from the Godzilla recording sessions produced by Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age/Kyuss) and unearthed a secret that had been in his garage since 1996...The band had recorded 4 songs that had never been released.

These extra songs are early versions of "Grendel, Snowman," "Strolling Astronomer" and "Urethane' (whose final versions appeared on 1997's The Action Is Go) and a cover of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" (which is a different version than the one which was released on 7' in 1998).

The songs line up perfectly with the original tracklist, which includes the band's crowd pleasing cover of Blue Oyster Cult's 'Godzilla' and fan favorites 'Eatin'Dust' and 'Mongoose' (which was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Toyota and included in the TV series 'Sons Of Anarchy' and the films 'Boondock Saints II' and 'The Hot Chick').

    Trapped Animal

    Jeremy Tuplin 'Pink Mirror'

    £11.99

Featuring the glorious artwork painted by Jeremy Tuplin himself. The sleeve features the singer's own exceptional psychedelic paintings front and reverse.

'Tuplin's songs are more like plays or a novel... He projects sweeping stories and worlds and tackles conventional subjects with a fresh perspective.' Music Musings & Such

'Hints of Leonard Cohen and Bill Callahan - ¦ Stunningly candid.' The Telegraph Culture

Tuplin describes Pink Mirror'as a 'jovial sojourn through some of human nature's so-called dark sides. It's a satirical look at representations of love, desire, vanity, society, the internet and more in the modern world.  For Tuplin, the pink mirror represents the rose-tinted spectacles through which we often view our world and/or our own places within it. The album was recorded at Marketstall Recording Studio in South Bermondsey with Mark Estall, the sound-engineer and co-producer who worked on Tuplin's acclaimed first album, I Dreamt I Was An Astronaut'.

Clash Music described I Dreamt I Was An Astronaut'as a 'cosmic gem'; Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music called it 'unconventional, conversational and intimate'.  Tuplin was subsequently compared to such legends as Leonard Cohen, Bill Callahan, Nick Drake and Space Oddity'-era Bowie

Boomtown Fair music festival hailed him as 'one of the founding fathers of the lesser known genre of space-folk.'  Pink Mirror'brings it all back to earth, adding soundscapes and swells - and more guitar. During this year's record-breaking summer, Tuplin released one-off track Long Hot Summer'to raise money for Friends of the Earth.

Through this he caught the attention of independent label Trapped Animal Records as an exciting artist with a social conscience. Album teaser track Just Cos Ur Handsome'was made available as a limited-edition free download through Bandcamp received radio play from Amazing Radio.  The track was described by ComeHereFloyd blog as 'what you want in a drizzly life that needs a dose of bright sunshine of reality.'

First single Bad Lover', released in November 2018, went down a storm, thanks no doubt to the accompanying video of Tuplin performing with a backing band of ironically-yawning hipsters.

For The Rabbits said of the track, 'Jaunty guitars, group backing vocals so wonderful the Ronettes would be proud of them, and rolling basslines; it's Jeremy Tuplin sure, but as we've never seen him before.'

The track went on to top many a Spotify playlist and video round-up, with Americana UK writing that it was 'ridiculously catchy, has great lyrics and a fun video to accompany it.' Some of Tuplin's favourite album tracks are Can We Be Strangers', The Machine'and The Beast', as they are more autobiographical; they are in contrast to the sharp social commentary of some of the other tracks.

Tuplin painted the album artwork himself - a cheery rose-tinted image on the front cover and something altogether darker on the reverse.

    The Guardian

When science fiction turns science fact the effect can be truly momentous. The state demands that no-one wants an unlicensed machine-hum from an outbuilding; no-one wants clever prose mapping the future, no-one wants 'music' that is attention-seeking, soul-defining, beneficial, Biblical, baroque and beautiful. No-one told Jane Weaver that.

Jane Weaver's multi-layered synthetics evolved into a welcoming slew with 2014's The Silver Globe', continuing through to 2017's Modern Kosmology'.
    Loops In The Secret Society'
is a re-imagined journey through parts of both albums, with new ambient pieces primed and polished; with new tangents explored in a lab-friendly blossoming of the Weaver vision that travels yet further into the psych of our future. A continuous experience with one-line observations set in glorious sense-stimulating sound.

That source material was then united in an expansionist experiment in late 2018. The Loops In The Secret Society' tour fused unrelated sounds set off against sympathetic new textures, tones and drones ; hot-housed into an idealistic soundscape that formed the conducive parts of the imminent album of the same name.

  • The Underground Youth 'Montage Images Of Lust And Fear'

    Fuzz Club Records

The Underground Youth 'Montage Images Of Lust And Fear'

    £9.99

The band's ninth album, Montage Images of Lust And Fear, will be released on March 29th 2019 via Fuzz Club.

Limited to 1000 copies. Available on 180-gram coloured vinyl.

It's undoubtedly their most sincere work in an extensive, decade-long discography with which they've picked up a cult following across the globe - made evident in their millions of YouTube streams and relentless international touring.

In support of the new album, and keeping to their prodigious work ethic, the band have also announced details of a mammoth tour across the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia that'll see them visit 25 different countries. In its rawest moments (The Death of the Author', Blind II'), The Underground Youth's haunting post-punk melancholia recalls the abrasive banshee-like noise of The Birthday Party and Suicide; jagged, shrieking guitars twist and turn as Craig Dyer's dour vocals jerk from morose and impassioned to macabre screams.

Though this is an album of two sides; the more intense and challenging songs punctuated by heartfelt and solemn ballads (Too Innocent To Be True', This Anaesthetised World') that are aided by the additional lap steel guitar of Kristof Hahn (Swans) who plays on six of the album's nine songs.

This is The Underground Youth's most intense and honest record yet - in the ambitious songwriting and live recording (a first for the band), as well as the lyrical subject matter. Talking about the album, Craig explains 'Montage Images of Lust And Fear is inspired by the succession of experiences we are increasingly dealt by the media. Sex, violence, love, suspicion, desire, distress, etc.

The album acts as a montage itself, the subject of each song dealing with an aspect of either lust or fear. Like flicking through the channels on a television. Until the end you are overcome by white noise. Static.' Since the release of their aptly-titled eighth full-length, What Kind Of Dystopian Hellhole Is This?

In February 2017, the band have set out on four UK/European tours clocking in at over 100 shows (not including stand-alone gigs). If all that time touring has taught the band anything, it's how to work together as a collective and Montage Images Of Lust And Fear is all the better for it - the first The Underground Youth record with all the band members involved in the writing.

'Unlike previous albums in which I've written the tracks and taken them into the studio to record with or without the band, this record is the product of us all working on the music and arranging the songs together,'

Craig explains: 'We recorded the album live with the four of us playing in the same small room and with our guitarist Leo as producer, running back and forth from the mixing desk to the live room. As a result, the recording perfectly captures the raw intensity of our live performance, something we've never done before.'

The Underground Youth is comprised of Craig Dyer (vocals/guitar), Olya Dyer (percussion), Max James (bass) and Leo Kaage (guitar).

Lamin Fofana 'Brancusi Sculpting Beyonce' Vinyl LP

    £16.99

In the face of devastating violence, how are you responding. I think deeply about the moment we're in and am searching for a response that's not blatant or overt, but more-so inviting the listener to contemplate their own mindset.

The music here is an expression, my response to surviving these traumatic, unpredictable times. Most of the new sounds came out of the experience of living in Berlin and traveling around Europe.

As a black African existing and moving in predominantly white spaces, you are under continuous scrutiny and harassment. White supremacy and racism have a certain gradation of intimate terrorism, and the darker your skin the more endangered you are.

"BrâncuÈ'ž¢i sculpting Beyoncé in gold lamé" is a line from Mike Ladd's song 'Blonde Negress' from the album Negrophilia. The album was inspired by Petrine Archer-Straw's book of the same name (with the subtitle 'Avant-Garde Paris and Black Culture in the 1920s'). The book explores the Paris art world's embrace of black American and African culture ' and its co-option of black art and culture, which played heavily into Art Deco, Cubism, jazz, etc.

I read the book some years back, but I love how Mike Ladd warps it, drawing a long line between Beyonce and Brancusi, whose Sleeping Muse was inspired by African masks" Lamin Fofana is an electronic producer and artist. His instrumental electronic music contrasts the reality of our world with what's beyond and explores questions of movement, migration, alienation, and belonging. He is from Sierra Leone, lived in Guinea, United States, and currently located in Berlin.

    Press quotes for previous releases:

'Fofana, who was born and raised in Sierra Leone and Guinea, runs the Sci-Fi & Fantasy label'home to, among other things, Lotic's first releases. His own work is part of a dialogue between techno, as it's broadly understood, and more abstracted forms. With the Another World EP, he attempts to link techno back to the real world, to bridge aesthetics with socio-economics, with ocean currents, with stale bread and dirty water. It's right there in the subtitle of the 3rd track: '(Realist Mix)'.' Pitchfork

'At one moment, it is riot-space; at another, thinking-space; at yet another, chill-out-and-recharge-space; and at yet another, historical-space. At all times it is a delicate synthesis of multifarious strands and an enterprise in gauging dirt patches in this mad moment, in exposing little bits of hard ground on which our desires for another world, certainly for the end of this one, can continue to find traction.' e-flux Journal

'Fofana paired techno beats and nebulous pads to create instrumentals that seek to contrast the reality of our world with what's beyond.' The Fader

Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation 'Sacred Dreams'

    £11.49

London-based psychedelic stalwarts Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation are proud to reveal their third album 'Sacred Dreams' for Rocket Recordings. Continuing to dive into the deeper waters of experimentation, Sacred Dreams'is both a musically hefty amalgamation of reverb drenched space-rock and retro centric electronics, as well as an emotionally cathartic release for the band, marking a new direction and fresh approach.

Since their critically acclaimed album 'Mirage' was released, Josefin and writing partner Fredrik have relocated from Stockholm to London and have created a new Liberation around them - this new band consists of the powerful and intuitive assemblage of musicians; Maki (Go Team), Patrick C Smith (Eskimo Chain), Matt Loft (Lola Colt) and Ben Ellis, who's worked with both Iggy Pop and Swervedriver.

Sacred Dreams'was largely recorded at Press Play Studios (King Krule, Fat White Family, Yves Tumor, Stereolab, High Llamas and many others) run by Andy Ramsay of Stereolab, who also produced and even programmed his non synced drum machines adding a lot of inspiration to the album. Scared Dreams'invites you into the bands own dimensional soundscape, a world built with transcendental guitars, driving grooves and otherworldly, enchanting vocals, altogether seeped in layers of blissfully produced synths.

Opener and lead single Feel The Sun'encapsulates this new direction perfectly before the anthemic I Can Feel It'makes the bands intentions known. Elsewhere playful 80s electronics sit alongside a shoegaze sensibility effortlessly and amongst the textured flow of the LP emerge pop hooks like the infectiously bluesy Baby Come On'.

Josefin tells us 'This album comes out of a period of heartbreak, loss and dissolution, but also of deep love, warmth and beauty unveiled in the middle of it. A sacred dream, the way we see it, is not necessarily a golden fluffy cloud river, but instead also contains all the shadows that need to be seen and felt in order to drop what has to go in order to truly live. And the dissonance of such a dream may not be immediately apparent, let alone the meaning of it. In a way all of these tracks seem to emanate from that place where we have almost reached a new shore, or maybe we missed it and are headed somewhere else entirely, but there's no way of telling until afterwards.'

'Beautifully controlled, understated, subtle but infectious.' The Guardian

It's Barlow at his introverted songwriting best; matter-of-factly delivering a stream of self-questioning stories, punctuated by detuned guitars, spine-tingling time changes and throwaway one liners.

Commemorating thirty trips around the sun as one of metal's most monolithic bands, Earth have announced plans to release their ninth studio album, Full Upon Her Burning Lips. A purge of the embellishment and panache from previous releases, Full Upon Her Burning Lips intimates Earth's commitment to the minimalism of their primordial days.

Deconstructing the tried-and-true dynamic consisting of Dylan Carlson on guitar and bass and Adrienne Davies on drums and percussion, Full Upon Her Burning Lips taps into the Platonic ideal of Earth'an incarnation of the long running band bolstered by the authority of purpose, where every note and every strike on the drum kit carries the weight of the world. In addition to scaling back the flourishes of their hulking, drone-driven opuses, Full Upon Her Burning Lips was composed sans narrative, relying instead on their collective subconscious to hone in on the overarching muse as the songs developed.

The record was engineered, mixed, and mastered by long time associate Mell Dettmer at Studio Soli. Showcasing Carlson's sepia-toned Bakersfield Sound guitars and Davies'death knell drums, Full Upon Her Burning Lips mines for the expressive, nuanced, and tonally rich components of Earth's arsenal of sound. And indeed, anyone that's followed Earth on their journey will bask in the unadulterated hums, throbs, and reverberations conjured by Carlson and Davies.

'I feel like this is the fullest expression and purest distillation of what Earth does since I re-started the band,' Carlson says in reflection of Full Upon Her Burning Lips. And indeed, anyone that's followed Earth on their journey will bask in the unadulterated hums, throbs, and reverberations conjured by Carlson and Davies.

    Paradise Of Bachelors

    Michael Chapman 'True North'

The masterful follow-up to his universally celebrated 2017 album 50, Michael Chapman's True North finds the elder statesman of British song writing and guitar plumbing an even deeper deep and honing an ever keener edge to his iconic writing.

This authoritative set of predominantly new, and utterly devastating, songs hews to a more intimate sonic signature'more atmospheric, textural, and minimalist than 50, stately and melancholy in equal measure. Recorded in rural West Wales, True North unflinchingly surveys home and horizon, traveling from the Bahamas to Texas to the Leeds of Chapman's childhood, haunted by the mirages of memory and intimations of mortality.

Joining him on this introspective journey is a cast of old friends and new disciples: once again Steve Gunn produces and plays guitar, and fellow UK song writing hero Bridget St John sings, collaborating with cellist Sarah Smout and legendary pedal steel player BJ Cole, who has accompanied everyone from John Cale to Scott Walker, Elton John to Terry Allen, Felt to Björk.

The album begins with the gnawing regret of 'It's Too Late,' and every song Chapman sings thereafter directly references the passing of time'its blind ruthlessness, its sweet hazy delights in noirish language almost mystical in its terseness and precision. (The two transportive, gorgeous instrumentals, one per side, both have appropriately evocative'though decidedly not Northern'pastoral place names for titles: Eleuthera is an island in the Bahamas where Chapman habitually holidays every winter, and Caddo Lake straddles the border between Texas and Louisiana.)

This is Chapman at his darkest and most nocturnal, yes, but also his most elegant and subtle, squinting into the black hours with an unseen smile. By the time True North is out in the world, Chapman will be seventy-eight years old and will have released nearly as many records, a staggering achievement. True North represents the most nakedly personal album of his career, his most authoritative, unguarded, and emotionally devastating statement.

His universally celebrated full-band 2017 album 50 flirted with much-deserved triumphalism, offering a retrospective of his illustrious career, revisited in the company of the fellow UK song writing hero Bridget St John and a rowdy gang of younger acolytes including Steve Gunn, James Elkington, and Nathan Bowles.

The production hearkens back to Chapman's classic Millstone Grit (1973), as well as recalling Bob Dylan's Time Out of Mind (1997); True North shares something of that album's spectral gloaming, midnight heartache, and sly, self-knowing winks.

Compared to 50, these recordings feel narrower in range, less overtly narrative and dynamic and more impressionistic and restrained, but they are correspondingly more piercing and arrow-like in their rending impact, more concerned with an archer's deadeye aim than pyrotechnics.

Whereas 50 featured two new songs among radical reinterpretations of material from Chapman's deep catalogue, True North includes twice as many new numbers among its quiver of eleven arrows''It's Too Late,' 'Eleuthera,' the fiery 'Bluesman,' and slow-rolling album centre piece 'Truck Song''confirming the exultant return of Chapman the songwriter. The other songs were selected from various obscure corners of Chapman's vast catalogue ('Youth Is Wasted on the Young' was previously recorded with Thurston Moore and Jim O'Rourke for a compilation, for example.) In these renderings they receive their definitive treatments, utterly transformed.

'A rich, haunting, collection of forlorn love songs, apocalyptic picaresques, and bewitching instrumentals that marks the latest stage in a remarkable career renaissance - ¦ by the godfather of new cosmic Americana' The Guardian

'Beatific. Haunted by memories & auguries, & communicating something of their uncanny twilight power' MOJO

'A finely tuned piece that surveys the looming thunderclouds of mortality and the biblical gloom of the times, and quietly, unshowily transcends both' Uncut

'A late-career triumph [of] mystery and weight' The Times
