Since 2004, èlg has drawn concentric sound spirals made of musical pipes and entrails. He uses an arsenal of instruments and methods, constantly renewed while building improbable bridges between musique concrete and french song-writing, cartoon-like radiophonic creations and cosmic pop as well as lo-fi dada-esque experimentation with electronic tentacles.

èlg is half of the electronic botanic duo opera mort, and a third of big band trios orgue agnes (with the members of kaumwald) and reines d'angleterre (with jo tanz and ghédalia tazartes). He's had albums released by kraak, ss-records, lexi disques, fonal, hundebiss records, and alter, among others.

I dig cosmic music with rocks off - ¦anathema to top 40, èlg is the holy ghost of the new sound. His music deals with the altered state with muscle primed on transcendence like naked hug, the fire music of his previous duos or the zap force of his earlier Nashazphone jam "Capitaine present 5", it feels hip to stay forever eternal in the house of mirrors & emerge on the cyclone. Coney island baby bataille. There's a dimensionality of miracles herein, we were born on earth...As humans.

Then there's èlg, laurent gérard he's a love lodge, a sonic native. This is immersion music climb upward, go down and deep. My fave cosmic strip here is in cool color - ¦the rare moment on this lp when the guitar solo explodes from the narrative ripping a hole in "Song". Through the planet of one voice, we hear the inimitable dylan nyoukis and the one and only og alan bishop.

These heads are perfect jam vehicles to hang with laurent. Then there's the paramour lady catherine hershey, forever muse - ¦roast tongue. Brand new language, brave nu world. This grabs the tusk of francois tusques and rides mother gong, all glissando and kobaïan. Learned from shandar and transporting with a freer range lard free, organic music that slays all inner city mountains, outer realm gotham. Bluer than noon. Contempo lone gunman exploratory moderne with the controls set to the heart of love. We're in the "Mauve zone", where is bananafish? Hearing is believing. A transport to future analog and digital dialup. Call this dude, he's beyond rap. What a crazy fucking life.

Porest's fourth long-player, Modern Journal of Popular Savagery is a damning collection of parallel realities told in song and sound. Following 2006's masterful Tourrorists, MJoPS pits post-globalized hate pop, cabalistic text-to-speech drama and violent tape music against soapbox anthems and swirling barbed-wire psychedelia - sometimes within the same track.

The result: a terrifying and ridiculous audio shakedown that both avoids and completely indulges the inherent trappings of art and politics. Fuzzed out guitars and keyboards, epic modulated grooves, 'samples' and far-out fucking field recordings index the colonization of our consciousness. You're already dead - and none of your intellectual friends can save you.

Guests include Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls), Peter Conheim (Negativland), and Jake Rodriguez (Bran - ¦Pos). Recorded between California, Syria, Vietnam and points in between. Across decades, Porest (aka Mark Gergis) has issued a trail of confounding agitprop sound art, tilted pop, diabolical radio dramas and carefully rearranged realities on the Abduction, Seeland and Resipiscent labels. Porest's blatant embezzlement of human syntax and cultural misunderstanding broadcasts vital mixed messages.

Collaborations have included: Aavikko (Finland) Sun City Girls (USA), and Negativland (USA) among others. Gergis was a co-founder of the long-running experimental Bay Area music and performance collective Mono Pause - as well as its offshoot Neung Phak, performing inspired renditions of southeast Asian musics.

Since 2003, with the Sublime Frequencies label, an ethnographic music and film collective out of Seattle, Washington - and more recently, with his own record label - Sham Palace, Gergis has shared decades of research and scores of archived international music, film footage and sound recordings acquired during extensive travels in the Middle East, South East Asia and elsewhere.

"Costes has caused me so much trouble. Even today, 25 years after the last time I performed with him, I still have a hard time booking shows because he has not mellowed as I have and the venues are afraid, because of my past association with him, that there will be piss, shit, violence, genitalia, racial tension, cops, etc. Costes has caused himself so much trouble. He's been taken to court five times over his art, received countless death threats. When's the last time you can think of that ART has been taken so seriously - ¦ as a life and death matter? And he perseveres. I think Costes is extraordinary. He ostentatiously thumbs not only his nose, but every single body part external AND internal, at any authority there is. Pas Encore Mort, a re-release of a 1997 CD, is uncharacteristically introspective, pretty, and sad. It is unsettling to see the man behind the gross warrior exposed, vulnerable, alone. I love and hate this album." Lisa Carver - Maine, U.S. 2 April 2016.

Born in 1954, Jean-Louis Costes is possibly France's most transgressive and independent artist. He is a musician, singer/songwriter, performance artist, painter, writer, actor and director. His highly expressionist trash style is instantly recognizable no matter which mode of expression he adopts. A unique and uncompromising artist, Costes has released over 70 albums since 1986.

His songs are mostly recorded in his home studio and display very raw explicit lyrics, with music alternating between rock, pop and noise. He is renowned for his infamous 'Porno-Social' Operas, which can be described as an explosive mix of live music, theater, violent actions, sex, noise, chansons, romanticism, mysticism and social issues.

He has toured Europe, North America and Japan. In the late 1990s, he began publishing his own texts, and since 2003, has authored four novels.

Teklife Records are excited to announce their second release called :
Open your Eyes by DJ Earl.

From the opening notes of Smoke that Reggie and throughout the 8 track record, DJ Earl lays down expertly crafted footwork rhythms filled with wavey synths and killer vocal hooks.

Every track on Open Your Eyes is a collaboration- as DJ Earl teams up with other Teklife members from his native Chicago and beyond.

The cover art has been provided by Shepard Fairey, a long-time friend and mentor of Ashes57. It is an honour to have his iconic Obey artwork adorning a Teklife record. The limited edition vinyl is available to preorder now.

Teklife's debut release, Afterlife, celebrated the life and music of the late, great DJ Rashad. Afterlife received widespread critical acclaim and DJ support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Kode 9. The first press vinyl sold out in no time, and a second edition is on the way.

For Teklife's follow up release, DJ Earl takes centre stage. A leading figure in the footwork movement, and long time collaborator with DJ Rashad, DJ Earl is a key member of the Teklife family.

Open Your Eyes is a brutally strong EP filled with future classics. Moods range from the mellow-toned Smoke That Green feat Taso, to the high octane funk of Let's Work feat Moondoctor & OPN.  It's hard to pick a stand out track, although Ratchet deserves a special mention for guaranteed dance floor destruction. A special shout out goes to OPN, who worked closely with Earl on this project.

Message from Dj Earl: This record took 2 years to complete and a lot of hard work to get right. I hope it gets people excited about the music we are making and about Teklife Records.'

  • The Spook School / Tigercats / Mercury Girls / Wildhoney 'Continental Drift' - Cargo Records UK

    Fortuna POP!

The Spook School / Tigercats / Mercury Girls / Wildhoney 'Continental Drift'

    £7.99

Four great bands, two great labels and two continents meet on this stellar mini-LP. Frequent collaborators Slumberland Records and Fortuna POP! team up to bring you "Continental Drift," a smashing eight song sampler of some of the finest pop out there in 2016.

Baltimore's Wildhoney have been making music together since 2011, forging a fresh sound from raw materials of shoegaze, punk and good old indiepop. 2015 saw the release of their debut LP and follow-up EP, and now we've snagged two top-quality exclusive tunes for this compilation.

East London's Tigercats jangly, effervescent pop nods to their punk roots and spikes the pop punch with anthemic choruses and massive, crunching guitars. Their second album 'Mysteries' was a huge step forward for the band and the two new songs included here point to even greater things in the future.

Philadelphia's Mercury Girls are one of the most talked-about new bands in ages. Featuring members of Literature, Little Big League and Pet Milk, Mercury Girls have a gorgeous, layered sound that combines post-punk dynamics with soaring/jangling guitars, fantastic melodies and expertly-arranged tunes. Their recent single 'Ariana' turned a lot of heads, and their two contributions contained herein should make us all quite excited for their in-progress debut album.

Edinburgh, Scotland's The Spook School are surely the most *fun* band taking-on issues of gender and identity today, writing queer-pop anthems that are noisy, tuneful, sharply-observed and outrageously catchy. Citing influences as varied as T-Rex, C86 and Buzzcocks, they tell stories that are as multi-faceted and complex as modern life and sexuality itself, but also universal in their optimism. The title of their recent album 'Try To Be Hopeful' sums it up well, and their two songs here are up there with the band's finest.

    1. Mercury Girls - Holly
    2. The Spook School - Sometimes I Hide From Everybody

    Gazelle Twin 'Fleshed Out'

    £14.99

Remixes By: Perc, Carter Tutti, Blanck Mass, Dave Clarke, Zamilska Wrangler, I Speak Machine, Don't Look, Lone Taxidermist.

Gazelle Twin's UNFLESH (Anti-Ghost Moon Ray / Last Gang, September 2014) was one of 2014's most acclaimed, independent electronic albums, highlighted by the New York Times, NPR, The Quietus, The Guardian, Dazed & Confused and recently dubbed a classic of our time'by BBC Radio 3's Max Reinhardt.

Following its 2-year worldwide tour and off-shoot film and performance project with Carla MacKinnon,Out Of Body'(2015), the Blue-Hoody chapter of Gazelle Twin culminates in the remix LP FLESHED OUT - with autopsied and re-animated tracks by 10 exceptional producers in a double-gatefold vinyl package, released on Anti-Ghost Moon Ray and Last Gang Records on 29 July 2016.

Perc's brutally stark rework of 'Anti Body'blows the collection open and is paired with the inventive, dub treatment of GUTS'by unsigned, 19yr-old producer - Don't Look. Legendary Throbbing Gristle duo, Carter Tutti (Cosey Fanni Tutti and Chris Carter), give Unflesh'a surprisingly gentle treatment, and Wrangler's previously released version of Anti Body'(Anti Body EP, May 2014) contrasts the unmistakable snarls of Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire) with production by Benge (John Foxx and The Maths) and Phil Winter (Tuung). Vanishing (Tesla Tapes) featuring Gareth Smith's vocals alongside members of Gnod and Warm Widow, deliver a staggering re-vocalisation of Still Life'.

Moving into clubbier modes, Disc 2 spins into Dave Clarke's high-energy mix of Exorcise'(also released on Charcoal Eyes'on N.E.W.S in April 2016), and Polish producer, Zamilska, chills Belly of the Beast'right down to its knuckles. Blanck Mass'eastern-tinged remix of Still Life'winds the tempo down further into I Speak Machine's (Tara Busch) shimmering, analogue re-imagining of Anti Body'(also previously released on Anti Body EP), before Lone Taxidermist's (Natalie Sharp and Phil Winter of Tunng) version of Premonition'delicately snuffs out the flame.

    Endgame 'Flesh EP'

    £5.49

Londoner Endgame is a new addition to the Hyperdub roster after releases on Lisbon's Golden Mist Records, and NYC-based Purple Tapes Pedigree. Endgame hosts an excellent monthly show Precious Metals'on NTS and produces and DJs as part of the Bala Club crew (also featuring Uli K, Kamixlo and Rules) who are regulars at Lexxi's occasional club night Endless'.

He already has mixes and features with the likes of the Fader, Fact, Dazed and Confused and ID under his belt in the short time he's been releasing music. In his ice-cold productions, Drill, Grime and most notably South American dance riddims are threaded and mutated into tracks that he describes as an ever-evolving vision of the dystopian underbelly of London.

Felony Riddim'is an icy introduction to the EP, an explosive club jam with a menacing and stabbing chime melody leading up to a pounding kick drum. It's all out war, but you can definitely roll your hips to it.

Sittin'Here Redux'recasts Dizzie Rascal's Boy In Da Corner'opener into a tense anthem, with police sirens wailing in the background, dogs barking, and rolling 808 snares that bring a vibe somewhere between reggaeton and drill.

Next up is Fallen'featuring the MC Organ Tapes - a slow burner that works both as a moody headphone track or a club slow jam. Organ Tapes'slurred autotuned vocals flow perfectly with Endgame's blend of grime drums and chiming rap production.

The EP finishes as it began, going out with the explosive and high-energy Toxic Riddim'.

It's a mix of reggaeton and futurist dancehall, with a menacing melody and relentless electric shock-like hi hats across a deep sub. Endgame takes you all around the world - but the ice-cold tone unmistakably brings you right back to winding in a dark club in London's culture clash.

'angels of light have your souls in a vice / we want to be free / we want to be loved / we want to be kissed from heaven above' David West, Dream on Dreamer

When Tough Love first began putting out records, one of the guiding motivations was to release music that sounds like the music David West makes. We didn't know it at the time, because we hadn't yet heard of him. It's funny how the very thing you're looking for falls into your lap.

If you don't already know of David, and the various guises he performs under, then I'm a little envious, for you have a lot to discover for the first time. Peace or Love, is the second album to be issued under his own name. That can be either your starting point, or your continuation down a road.

The facts: Peace or Love is the follow-up to USA/Australia-based musical artist David West's 2015 cassette release, Drop Out Of Collage. Peace or Love is a collection of songs stemming from wild and free bedroom four-track cassette recordings and personal hard drive sample raiding, with contributions from various musical friends in Perth, Western Australia and SF/LA, California.

West draws inspiration from free-thinking artists of the past and present on this polyphonic platter, from soft indie strumming and free soundscapes, to disco and soul-pop. West currently plays in the guitar pop band Rat Columns, synth-pop project Liberation and post-punk trio Rank/Xerox, and has been in varied acts such as Lace Curtain, Burning Sensation, Total Control and Whalehammer.

If you were feeling particularly grand, you could say that David West has created his own ecology, or you could just say he's a very busy man. I told David over email that Peace or Love feels like an album that was made specifically for me. His reply? 'It is for YOU. And YOU. And YOU. And YOU - ¦Peace or love is the same thing - you want to be free and you want to be loved....but you gotta choose one' This is music from the margins that deserves a place in the middle of anyone's heart. // 'it's peace or love baby / you said it before / that you want it all / it's peace or love, baby' - David West, Peace or Love.

    Russian Circles 'Guidance'

    £11.99

    v

    Sargent House

    Russian Circles 'Guidance'

    £19.99

'Guidance features a more bad-ass Russian Circles, a group that seems less elegiac, and more ready to plant their feet solidly on the ground, fighting back bloodied and bruised against each body blow.' - Pitchfork

"...the album - the group's sixth - is moody, dense and dynamic, the gripping soundtrack to an un-filmed drama." - Rolling Stone

With their sixth album Guidance, Russian Circles carry on in their quest to conjure multi-dimensional dramatic instrumental narratives and to scout out new textures from their respective instruments. Songs aren't constructed out of highbrow concepts; they're forged out of gut instinct and base emotional response. Nor was the band'as is often the case with artists later in their career'interested in testing their fans'patience or securing a new broader audience with a radical reinvention. Instead, Russian Circles use Guidance to continue examining the polarity of quiet and loud, complexity and simplicity, ugliness and beauty.

Every Russian Circles album has had its share of new sonic vistas, and Guidance finds the band still searching out new sounds while continuing to play to the collective strengths of guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz, and bassist Brian Cook. Starting with the meditative restraint of album opener 'Asa', Guidance sets off on a path of metallic savagery ('Vorel', 'Calla'), arpeggio tectonics ('Mota'), mercurial anthems ('Afrika'), somber segues ('Overboard'), and seismic Americana noir ('Lisboa').

With the help of engineer/co-producer Kurt Ballou and his God City Studio, Russian Circles were able to capture this broad tonal palette and wide array of emotional motifs into a cohesive journey through the tumultuous corners of human existence. We often expect artists to fall into patterns and formulas, but for Russian Circles the creative method is still a mystery.

Songs develop at their own pace. Inspiration comes from strange sources. If anything, the process of writing is every bit the enigma it was back when the band crafted their first song in 2004. Life itself is a struggle with the unknown and a search for meaning, and the creative process for Russian Circles has mirrored that pursuit.

The radical dynamic shifts and straightforward production of Enter, the lockstep metallic attack and pensive comedowns of Station, the symphonic grandeur of Geneva, the grit and grime of Empros, and the oscillation between melancholy and wrath on Memorial were all incremental steps towards an ideal, and Guidance brings the band that much closer to that realization. In the interim between albums, a veteran handed off an envelope of war photos to the spouse of a band member.

The photos depicted a man being led to his execution. There was no context for the traumatic scenes, no history, no background. Yet the dignity this anonymous figure exuded in his fatalistic march resonated with the band. Here was someone that knew his fate and marched boldly towards his destiny.

The band used these photos for the Guidance album art, knowing that we all march towards our own conclusions, and we can only hope that we face our futures with the same honor and nobility. If the band's fourth album Empros (Greek translation: Onward) was a statement of perseverance, Guidance became a statement of striding into the future undeterred by what lies ahead.

Jawad Nawfal is a pioneer of Lebanon's electronic/dance scene. Starting out as a DJ and event promoter in the late 90's, he eventually moved on to production and composition in the early 2000's, forming live electronic duos Ae_Quo and AEX with Lebanese musician Victor Bresse.

Nawfal created MUNMA in the aftermath of Israel's war on Lebanon in the summer of 2006 -- this solo project explores oriental harmonies and rhythmical patterns, with a strong reliance on sampled traditional musical beds, excerpts from politicians'speeches and radio broadcasts. In 2012, Jawad started working with Lebanese writer and slam poet Mazen el-Sayed aka 'El Rass', and the two musicians released two albums which explore the darker sides of rap, and display strong electronica and dubstep influences.

In the following years, Nawfal collaborated with Belgian electronic producer Cedrik Fermont, and released 3 albums on his label Syrphe Records with different contributors.

THREE VOICES is the first vinyl release from Munma, and the second vinyl release from Lebanese alternative label Ruptured (following RadioKVM's Issrar'in 2014). Munma's new album is marked by several vocal collaborations, a departure in style for this pioneer of Beirut's electronic scene. As such, the vocal element was always present in the music of Munma, whether through radio broadcasts, samples of political speeches, recordings of musicians'voices and the like, but he had never actually used the human voice as an intrinsic element in his compositions.

Following his successful collaboration with rapper El Rass and other hip-hop artists from Beirut and the neighboring area (including Touffar, El Far3i and Boikutt, among others), Jawad Nawfal became drawn towards the capabilities of the human voice, more specifically the reciting of poetry by a human voice, and began to integrate this element in his music process.

He called on various writers, mostly female ones, to write personal texts and recite them in spoken-word form in the studio. He then proceeded to build specific music beds around these voice recordings and recitations.

The resulting album is Three Voices', a fully collaborative yet vastly personal album of electronic treatments and human narration.

10' vinyl EP with digital download code. Transitions, as well as being the transition between the band's debut and sophomore LPs, is transitional in theme, making changes, starting over and reacting against changes out of your own control.

The EP also demonstrates a transition in the band's sound, introducing sonic explorations from the kraut rock grooves of Ra to the duelling saxophones of Chaos Theory, as well as showing a more confident approach to song writing from both Hubley and Nelson.

This gives glimpses of what they have in store with the second LP to be released in 2017. Simon Nelson and Alice Hubley met on the London Underground after a Stereo Totale gig in 2009. Two days later Simon was round Alice's house unblocking her kitchen drain. Since then Simon has been round and put up two curtain rails, a blind and a shelf. This unlikely meeting, got them talking and once the DIY was done they started making music together, fusing metronomic pop sensibilities, 60's grooves and krautrock noise. What you maybe would get if you mix New Order, United States of America and Stereolab.

As a band they are constantly trying to find the perfect meeting point between clean synths and fuzz guitars. The band's line up was completed by Alice's old Loves bandmates Daniel Chapman and The Late Jonny Drums and A Smile and A Ribbon's Kajsa Tretow. Jonny realised that he was always late because he was on Chinese time, so packed his bags and headed to the country on a quest to finally be on time. He has subsequently been replaced by the punctual Matt Harms.

The band played their first show in April 2012, and since then have played shows with Laetitia Sadier, Comet Gain and Seapony as well the Indietracks Festival. The band's debut album was released in 2014 receiving favourable reviews in The Quietus and The Sunday Times and plays on 6 Music.

'a cool and mannered (but not overmannered) exploration of a musical world bordered by Stereolab, Blondie, Saint Etienne, Belle and Sebastian and a band your mates formed at school that you wish you were in' The Sunday Times

'Cosines have found the magic formula that indie pop has been dreaming of - a winning combination of Pulp and Belle & Sebastian, seasoned with swathes of Stereolab. Refreshingly offering none of the dreaded 'twee' associated with that genre, Cosines have a big sense of melody they're not afraid to both use and play with, the same going for their sonic palette of guitars and spacey synths.' The Quietus

'Throughout Oscillations'interlocking synth and guitar lines recall Stereolab and Parallel Lines'-era Blondie in equal measure, although not with quite such uncanny force as lead-singer Alice Hubley's airy vocals.' Loud and Quiet.

  • Joanna Gruesome 'Pretty Fucking Sick (Of It All)' - Cargo Records UK

    Fortuna POP!

Joanna Gruesome 'Pretty Fucking Sick (Of It All)'

    £4.99

Blue Coloured Vinyl 7' (Limited to 300).

Joanna Gruesome release their first material since the departure of vocalist Alanna McArdle on this limited edition coloured vinyl 7' on the Fortuna POP! Jukebox 45s singles club. Following a chance meeting in an occult bookshop, the band's new line up features two amazing and inspiring women, Kate Stonestreet (formerly of queer punks Pennycress) on melodic vocals/shouting/screaming and Roxy Brennan (of Two White Cranes and Grubs) on melodic vocals/keyboard, joining Owen Williams (guitar/vocals), George Nicholls (guitar), Max Warren (bass) and Dave Sandford (drums).

The record features original artwork from Bart De Baets.

Recorded by producer Rory Atwell on a boat in London, a statement from the band on Pretty Fucking Sick (Of It All) reads, 'This song is about being pursued by intelligence operatives and is partly set in the Welsh village of Llangrannog. It is influenced by our recent U.S tour, during which the CIA took a special interest in the group's movements.' On Occult Bookshop the band says, 'This is an origin story, detailing the first meeting of the group. It is also about using astrological means to strengthen, receive and administer crushes.

Another reading suggests that the song is about attempting to destroy binary conceptions of gender through ritual hexing.' Joanna Gruesome's terrific debut album Weird Sister took the world by storm when it was released in September 2013, going on to win the Welsh Music Prize, with the 2015 follow up Peanut Butter receiving similar acclaim.

  • Darren Hayman And Papernut Cambridge 'I've Been A Bad Bad Boy' - Cargo Records UK

Darren Hayman And Papernut Cambridge 'I've Been A Bad Bad Boy'

    £5.99

Purple Rain Coloured Vinyl 7' (Limited to 300).

For fifteen years, and over fourteen albums, Darren Hayman has taken a singular and erratic route through England's tired and broken underbelly.  Influenced by punk through his art college years and then American lo-fi indie in the '90s he fronted John Peel favourites Hefner.

His solo career has earned widespread critical acclaim with his many and varied projects including his Essex trilogy, his Lido album, and recently a project to set the poems of William Morris to music entitled 'Chants For Socialists'. In addition to his solo career, Darren has been moonlighting as the drummer in Papernut Cambridge, the sprawling pop collective led by former Death In Vegas guitarist Ian Button and pals, described by Mojo as 'An escapist mix of 70's glam, Nuggets-psych and 80's indie, all balancing pop bliss and more sinister psychological depths'.

And now Darren has stepped out from beyond the drumkit to record two cover versions, with Papernut Cambridge as his backing band - 'I've Been A Bad Bad Boy' by Paul Jones, and 'Big, Big Deal' by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.

Darren explains: 'To me it seems like Papernut Cambridge is the band Ian wanted when he was a teenager but only got around to doing now. Everything Papernut Cambridge does is like a hazy, mash up version of a 1970s rock band. A group that might have guested on 'Marc' one week and never be seen again. I also wanted Papernut Cambridge to belong to that era where bands covered each other songs and backed each other on different releases.

To that end, even though Ian has recorded his own version of Bad, Bad Boy on Papernut Cambridge's Nutlets record, I asked Ian if I could record my own version with the 'Nut' backing me. I feel like Ringo stepping forward. I am the singer in my favourite band. Oh and by the way, I am a bad, bad, boy, I'm also kind of a big deal.'
