Six By Seven 'Then, Now And Neil' Vinyl 2xLP - Red/Blue

    £25.49

Double coloured Red and Blue Vinyl Recorded At The New Batcave in Nottingham during 2021. Limited to 250 copies only.

A double album compilation of two double CDs called: 'Neil Young's Shirt' and 'Now And Then' which were released on Bandcamp during mid 2020 and early 2021.

Although Chris Olley's songwriting is obviously heavily influenced by the legendary Talk Talk albums 'The Colour Of Spring' and 'Laughing Stock', 'Now, Then And Neil', makes sure the songs and sounds are not just content with the slow burning melancholy of the Talk Talk albums, but that they build up and have the added aggression of the distinct Six By Seven post rock style which earned them such accolade in the 2000's.

Although there are shorter more rocking songs and a couple of trademark lyrically twisted ballads, most of the songs on this album sound like mini-symphonies as they extended and are allowed to evolve and build into epic soundscapes.

As one fan recently wrote on six by seven's Bandcamp site: "Another brilliant collection from start to finish. The whole album is just beautiful. 2020-2021 has had some of the absolute best music ever released under the name Six By Seven."

  • Fadi Tabbal 'Subject To Potential Errors And Distortions' Vinyl

Fadi Tabbal 'Subject To Potential Errors And Distortions' Vinyl

    £19.99

On his fifth solo album "Subject to Potential Errors and Distortions', Lebanese producer, engineer, and musician Fadi Tabbal delves deeper into the theme of alienation in a suffocating city.

Composed and conceived almost entirely at his home in Beirut during Covid-19 quarantine, the record is his most intimate yet.

While his previous solo work consisted solely of guitar pieces, this time Tabbal adds tape loops, vocal samples and synthesizers to his sound palette in an attempt to convey the subjectivity of memory and our tendency to write and rewrite history according to the present.

The result is seven pieces that veer between minimalism and ambient music akin to recent outings by Pan American's Mark Nelson and mid-period Stars of the Lid.

  • Sami Yaffa 'The Innermost Journey to Your Outermost Mind'

    Livewire

Sami Yaffa 'The Innermost Journey to Your Outermost Mind'

    £11.99

Sami Yaffa has had a long and unique career as a musician. He played at the tender age of 16 on the Finnish punk legends Pelle Miljoona Oy's legendary album Moottoritie On Kuuma. As an original member of the band Hanoi Rocks (1980-85) he recorded 5 albums with the band and toured the world extensively until the tragic events that ended the flight of the pioneering band.

Hanoi Rocks became a major influence on many bands that later became huge like the Guns N'Roses and Pearl Jam. Yaffa's career continued after the break-up of Hanoi and ended up playing with Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, the legendary New York Dolls, the Swedish RnR machine The Hellacopters and many more artists.

Sami began playing with the Hanoi Rocks lead singer Michael Monroe again in 2010, the collaboration with Michael continues to this day.But now it's time to put out an album under his own name. 'The idea for the solo album started to take shape a few years back. I had written music for the New York Dolls and the Michael Monroe Band, but a lot of the songs and ideas were starting to sound more like me than the other bands.' What kind of music does Yaffa then release under his own name? Versatile. 'I've always loved the music of the bands like The Clash and The Rolling Stones. They can play country, funk, reggae and rock`n`roll, and still sound like themselves. I wanted the same kind of versatility for my own album. '

The album has influences on a fairly wide scale, but it hardly surprises those who have followed Yaffa's career: in addition to his own music career, he has been seen getting to know the musical cultures of different parts of the world as a host of the Sami Yaffa: Soundtracker TV series.

'However, the beating heart of the album is in rock`n`roll and punk, I don't shy away from that.' Even though it's a solo album, Yaffa mentions a few of names without whom the album wouldn't have been completed. One being the drummer Janne Haavisto, with whom Sami played already as a teenager. And the other being his Michael Monroe Bands band mate Rich Jones who co-wrote a bulk of the songs with Sami. Also the Stone Sour guitarist Christian Martucci and Smack guitarist Rane played an important role in the creation of the album.

Sami is ready to hit the road after the release of the album with a line up of Janne Haavisto on drums, Linde Lindström (HIM) on guitar and Burton (HIM) on keyboards.

Mojo Magazine : This is the sound of Sweet Crisis. Formed in Cambridge in 2015, after decades of friendship, they have drawn from years of shared experience and a well of hundreds of songs to create the debut album Tricks On My Mind.

Sweet Crisis seek to balance all their inclinations and influences - like Free or Lenny Kravtiz, nothing is off the table if music sounds right. The key influences for Sweet Crisis are wide-ranging, from the classic rock and soul music of the '70s - The Rolling Stones, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Donny Hathaway, Humble Pie - to The Verve and Massive Attack, The Black Keys and Jack White.

The iconic 70s sound combined with modern pioneers shape and inform this modern rock band's sound. And with this wide-ranging DNA incorporating just the right amount of funk, soul and pop along the way, their album celebrates both modern and classic vibes.

Leo and Piers write all of the songs for Sweet Crisis and have recently swelled their ranks with Matt Dudurym on bass, Dom Briggs-Fish on keyboards and Joe Taylor on drums - Now a well oiled machine that's been running since early 2019 - together they've created a timeless and energetic record. "The RSD version of Asian Dub Foundation's latest album 'Access Denied' is being compiled in the wake of the band's collaboration with comedian Stewart Lee 'Comin'Over Here' unexpectedly hitting No.1 in the official UK Sales chart during the week the UK finally left the European Union.

The tune was able to a raise a defiant cheer from a lot of people that have been disgusted by Brexit and its accompanying anti-immigrant rhetoric, and the rest of the album builds extensively on this theme.

We'll be adding a new version of 'Comin'Over Here' featuring another section from Stewart's classic monologue plus two previously unreleased tracks from a special one-off  with none other than Adrian Sherwood at the controls.

Also, expect two brand new remixes digidub style by Panda Dub and Manudigital and a new version of the album artwork specially designed for the RSD edition. It's great to be able to re-present the album on record store day as we wholeheartedly support the independent shops keeping alive the wonderful artefact that is the vinyl record, particularly in these times of COVID.'

  • Wire 'PF456 DELUXE' Vinyl 10

    Pink Flag

    Wire 'PF456 DELUXE' Vinyl 10" x 2 / 7"x 1 / Hard-bound Book

    £59.49

Following their 1990's hiatus Wire reformed in 1999 and after setting up their own pinkflag imprint,  between 2001 - 2003 released five distinct Wire items: Twelve Times You (vpf3; 7in vinyl). Read & Burn 01 (pf4; CD EP) / Read & Burn 02 (pf5; CD EP) / Send (pf6; CD album) / PF456 Redux (pf456 redux; 12in vinyl album.

Following the 2 Read & Burn CD Eps Wire released the full length album Send, combining some tracks from both Read & Burn EPs and four unreleased pieces.

Since none of the tracks had previously been issued on vinyl, a creative solution was sought to include all of the tracks from Send and the two Read & Burn EPs. This was achieved by some quite brutal edits! Thus the title PF456 Redux is both catalogue number and descriptor of the process.

However, none of the tracks on pf4, pf5 and pf6 were ever put out on vinyl at full length - hence PF456 Deluxe, which includes everything from those three releases and Twelve Times You, for good measure. As in many things with Wire, form follows function.

This limited edition version for Record Store Day 2021 comes with a hard -bound book containing text about these recordings and photos from the period.

Girls In Synthesis 'Shift In State' Vinyl LP White In Black

    £18.99

With the release of their debut album at the end of 2020, Girls In Synthesis proved that the hype was very much justified when it came to the bands tag as one of the most exciting in the UK. A concise and rabid blast of harsh post-punk, and released during the COVID crisis, the album eerily managed to capture the mood of the moment, despite being written and recorded in 2019.

Rightly so, it was released to stunned reviews and featured in many Best of 2020'end-of-year lists. Always a band with a militant work ethic, the first fruits of their fevered writing and recording period throughout 2020 are borne here with Shift In State'. Featuring 5 brand new tracks, the mini-album sees the trio return to the experimental edge of their early, and highly sought after, EP releases.

The lead track Containment', an abstract, bleak and circular slice of obtuse-punk gives way to an explosive and skewed dub remix featuring languorous horns and industrial sounding percussion. Following on, - ¦ But Still you Wanted More'retains the dub minimalism and adds trudging, nihilistic lyrical content alongside churning, saw-sharp organ. Calm Waters', the groups'first foray into a harsher, electronic landscape, brings to the forefront a crushing, relentless drum machine backbeat and woozy, warped bass hooks.

Finishing on Don't Try', this song sees the band return to their more familiar white-heat blast of post-punk. Shards of harsh, splintered guitar and pounding drums help push the theme of gross governmental incompetence well and truly into the listener's brain. Their incendiary live shows being hugely missed by fans, UK and EU dates are currently being signed off for late 2021 with further key releases also being lined up for release later in the year. Never a band to sit still, Shift In State'sees GIS, once again, surmount all obstacles and proves them to be one of the most forward-thinking and tireless acts in the UK.

L'homme de l'ombre immerses you from start to finish in a sonic and lyrical journey that rewards your mind and emotions. Here you will find the glamorous rock attitude of Marc O's musicianship colliding brilliantly with the wise and witty writing of french philosopher Bruno Pons Levy.

The result is not so much a double identity, but an intangible and powerful third element, much like the mathematical equation described in the song The triangle squared (Le triangle au carré). The Ganjas 'Loose' Vinyl 2xLP

    £28.99

Fourth album by the most representative band of the Chilean space-rock, with a mature, electric and nostalgic sound close to shoegaze and british rock. In a deluxe remastered edition, the band reaches the quintessence of the sound forged in their previous albums -bold grooves, warm clear-cut guitars, sustained-soft vocals- adding a new guitarist which brings a new zest without losing the laid-back spirit of The Ganjas music.

The Ganjas remains one of the longest and most active rock bands in Chile, playing regularly on local stages (till the pandemic) and delivering new works frequently. To the usual band members Pape Astaburuaga on bass and vocals, Sam Maquieira on guitars and vocals, and Aldo Benincasa on drums, Pablo Giadach (Casino, The Cruel Visions) joined on guitar, who refreshed their sound gaining a sonic and opioid combination.

With this new formation the band brought back their past repertoire playing live in Chile with bands like Jesus and Mary Chain, R.E.M and Oasis (Andy Bell's favorite new band), proving themselves as a generational symbol not only in the underground, but as a reference for new scenes. All this hustle led to new songs crafted during rehearsals and long jams on their live performances. During a short break on live activity on summer of 2009, they set up a recording studio at Club Mist, a bar located in 'Suecia' neighborhood of Providencia borough - now demolished- which was one of the favorite places where the band used to perform alongside Vuelveteloca, Watchout!, Föllakzoid and La Hell Gang.

New guitarist Giadach was in charge of recording with the assistance of Ignacio Rodríguez (Nes, Chicos de Nazca, La Hell Gang), and then mixed by the band in the countryside. Later, the album would be mastered at Puro Mastering, in Florida, Buenos Aires, Argentina, by the prominent sound engineer Eduardo Bergallo.

The songs deployed in the studio reflected well a logical continuation of a long-standing task, a work in which the hours of flight together were noted for the better. Few takes of each song and a tight sound demonstrated how their live performances were purified till perfection, also giving liveness to the recording. And on top of it, the room of the club with its warm sound where they played several times before, served as a container and remembrance of the music they have showed before in successful gigs.

A sound with its roots scattered throughout the world, in a trip where the main destinations were Manchester, Jamaica and California. 'Loose' is one of the band's most complex and mature albums, which will now be available in double LP Gatefold format, rescuing the original art in its entirety, with additional credits and extras. The record has a shoegaze/ british rock vibe in many songs like Heart of Velvet Stone, Motoqueiro and Trip In The Eye but also deeper and glowing songs like The Cut, 100 Ways and Loose. Remastered for vinyl, a new sound spectrum is opened with more details and atmosphere, especially for the band's audiophiles.

Föllakzoid are nearly unparalleled in the hypnotic lysergic drenched neo-psychedelic experience. On their debut it is mostly a rather bulky one, determined by the downright dirty, distorted electric guitar, which is also usually accompanied by a spacey, howling and herbaceous howling one. In addition, there is fat bass and powerful drums.

The bold and ambitious debut of Föllakzoid is persuasive and catchy, from the music to their mental or spiritual sustenance. One feels traveling between sound waves and ethereal sonic frequencies in a march towards the transcendental, to a somewhat metaphysical mixing between light and darkness. It's good to have bands in Chile that achieve such a connection with the deepest essence of his own music and be able to transmit it faithfully. After all, is a matter of energy and communication with your listener'.

In words of  Psychedelic Baby Mag: 'at times light and airy, and at times as inwardly heavy as you can imagine [think Moon Duo meets Hawkwind]. Listening requirements: Stereo, Couch, and a Ceiling to wander off into, with the company of a Good Friend. Jenell Kesler'

With the World Loves Me, Six By Seven return to the sound which gained them such great press and high accolades in the late 90's. Huge build-ups, feral guitars, and emotional lyrics are combined to create a sonic tension and release which is still unmatched by any other band claiming to be doing a similar thing.

Available on 180 gram vinyl Minneapolis psych-rockers Magic Castles are back with a new LP, 'Sun Reign', making an exciting return after founder and songwriter Jason Edmonds'suffered a near fatal car accident in November 2019.

Magic Castles are well-versed in the ways of psychedelically-inclined folk-rock. Edmonds'smooth vocal harmonies float above the guitars, creating a lush, almost Byrds-esque soundscape. The layered arrangements incorporate Farfisa organ, synths, and dreamy string arrangements.

Sun Reign is the band's fourth release on Anton Newcombe's label A'Recordings Ltd. Ironically similar to BJM, the Magic Castles have been plagued by lineup changes over the years. Due to this and other factors, in 2016, Edmonds, a single father, decided to take a short hiatus from regular live shows and touring to focus on his family.

During that time, (2016-2019) Edmonds, an introverted multi-instrumentalist, continued to record new material in his studio, and also record with a new band at Neil Weir's studio Blue Bell Knoll, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The results of these sessions are the current release, 'Sun Reign'.

    £17.99

Surrender is the debut full length from DJ, producer, and songwriter Endgame. Stepping out for the first time as a vocalist, and lyricist, Surrender is his most ambitious and vulnerable work to date; a striking statement of intent, with moments of beauty and brutality.

Endgame has carved an iconoclastic niche in club culture. Breaking into the scene as co-founder of the legendary collective Bala Club, and resident of the radical club-night Endless. Whilst continuing almost a decade hosting his infamous NTS radioshow (and now label) Precious Metals, he has forged a path against the tide of formulaic club music. A visionary DJ and producer, Surrender sees Endgame continue this trajectory, with a project that both amplifies the ferocious club constructions he's known for, whilst making space to open up wounded memories and with sombre unfeigned requiems.

Having previously released records on Hyperdub, PTP, Golden Mist and Infinite Machine, Endgame's first release on his own Precious Metals imprint, is him at his most reflective. Surrender is a deeply personal record, about loss and finding meaning in despair. Death is a prevailing theme, with the passing of his father a totemic subject. The recollection of his father's torturous final moments leaves him to mournfully contemplate temporality. Using this sense of anguish, he blurs reality - creating a world where angels and demons are among us in a decaying cityscape; akin to the work of Todd McFarlane.

The opener Faithless, propels us into this world, with the slow build of industrial precision amidst the sombre build of harsh melodic synths. We descend deeper into this vision with Barbed Heart, featuring a defining vocal from scene staple and long time collaborator Yayoyanoh, as 808's and skittering hi hats ricochet off one another beneath his bass driven vocal. No Heroes continues our journey into the unknown with a chaotic rush of acidic riffs, pounding percussion, and a reference to the brutalist anthem from hardcore punk band Converge (where the track borrows its name).

Requiem acts as the turning point of the record as Endgame steps into the foreground as a vocalist. As the name suggests, this lament is a sombre reflection of grief; its minimalist instrumental allows Endgame's haunted verse to rise into the foreground, like an apparition amidst the smoke in the depths of a dimly lit club. The dark clouds fade into the distance in Exhumed, as the elegant melancholic vocal of Bala Club affiliate and gifted vocalist Organ Tapes reflects off Endgame's sanguine verses bringing hope into the heartfelt instrumental filled with melodic flourishes and bass-bin rattling subs.

The thematic haze thickens in Abyss, as the pulsating and doom laden instrumental interweaves with Endgame's sepulchral vocal. Like a message from the void, his words act as an agnostic hymn that pulls apart his sense of self. The contrast of his plaintive verse with the intensity of the instrumental creates a contrast that is symbolic of the record itself, a duality that presents moments of soft reflection against a severe sonic palette to create moments of transcendence.

Rudolf de Borst: Vocals, Bass, Keys, Guitar / Ben Cole: Drums, Percussion, Vocals / Christian Livingstone: Guitars, Keys / Philip Somervell: Guitars, Vocals - Six years hath passed since the last release action from NewZild's most noted crafters of classic rock.

A lengthy period of quiet has been broken, with a stash of fresh riffing & renewed wailing. What change might have come to bear in a half dozen years? Is the DATSUN tribe more world weary, more savvy, more learned...? Is all this on evidence in the capturing of the newly birthed sonic heft and hooks? Have these geezers still got what it takes?

The exhibit - Album No.7 - "Eye to Eye". The stylistic grasp of these 11 tunes wrap the locomotive chug of classic Ian Gillan/Ritchie Blackmore helmed Deep Purple, seasoned nicely with generous servings of Jon Lord keyboard surge, to some updated glam boogie power chord-age, in a manner not dissimilar to the production shenanigans Josh Homme (that QOTSA fella) applies to his various projects.

Has Datsun vocal main man Dolf de Borst always come across like some bastard offspring of Marc Bolan and Alice Cooper? There's some otherworldly fantastical floating folk glam vocal melodies wafting in & out of this selection of tracks. And the Cooper sneer & snarl rears its head, in those tunes of a more heart pounding nature...

The guitar effects and greater keyboard dosage have peppered this clutch of new tunes with more flavours on the menu. Lest us not ferget the master of the cabin fever mongrel pedal electronic mechanics, and frequently featured lead Datsun instrumentalist, Christian Livingstone. It can be imagined the man has been labouring intently, in a wintry lock downed Northern hemisphere, fine tuning freaked fuzz frequencies, sci-fi squeal & spazz, and a host of other soaring dogfighting & dive-bombing tones, fer the instrumental breaks and beds for this album. The inherent rok dramatics and attack are the responsibilities Mr Livingstone bears.

The dynamics and tempo rest in the mitts of them other Datsun three. "Windmill" Phil Somervell gets to bring his rhythmic geetar chops & noted arm flailin', to underscore the light & shade of the riffage, knowing whens to slash or slug, pinch or punch. Ben "Poundin' Soul" Cole machine guns the rolls, and hits the timing twists & turns when required.

Master de Borst locks in his bass walkin', & talkin', stuttering & strutting w/his fellow rhythm men.. An album entrenched in the past, remodelled for the future, one unknown & uncertain more than ever.
