Early Death 'The Bleakest Force' Vinyl LP

    £15.99

Death by name, death by nature; this debut EP from these Berlin maniacs storms the gates with raw intensity.

Defined by intelligent and nuanced songwriting, The Bleakest Force holds a maturity which belies the band's relative youth. It's been a long road to here; founded in 2012, after years of struggle, primogenitor Costa (ex Satan's Wrath) relocated Early Death from London to Berlin.

Recruiting members of Essenz and Evil Spirit, the final lineup came together in 2016 to craft these four hymns of evil. Pure old school thrash / death is the game, with an inventiveness that demonstrates immaculate taste and consummate knowledge.

Reminiscent of Nifelheim in its intensity, diversity and finely crafted approach, ED are firmly in the camp of death as opposed to dwelling in blackness. This is just the beginning...and the future is dark indeed.

Fuckin’ Death represented one of death metal’s earliest recordings. Over a quarter of a century after its initial recording, “Fuckin’ Death” is not only one of the most brutal audio tortures of the mid ’80s but one of the key ingredients in the early devilish recipe that gave us death fuckin’ metal. Death Strike disbanded after 1985’s Fuckin’ Death demo and Paul Speckmann went on to front the legendary Master.

“Fuckin’ Death” was eventually re-released in 1991 on CD and vinyl, with additional tracks penned by Speckmann and the Nuclear Blast label.

The LP reissue contains the original eight tracks offered by the 1991 Nuclear Blast edition. The layout features new liner notes from Paul Speckmann and a foreword by “Zoltar” from Terrorizer.

Many things have changed since the 2014 release of the band’s acclaimed first full-length album, Abysmal Thresholds.

Main composer and guitarist Matti Mäkelä finally found some time to resurrect his funeral doom project TYRANNY and release one crusher of an album in 2015. A year later, CORPSESSED found a new bassist in Tuomas Kulmala (LIE IN RUINS and PERDITION WINDS).

And over the course of four long years, CORPSESSED completed their second full-length Impetus of Death, an album that manages to top it its predecessor in terms of heaviness and brutality while taking their epic sound a step further.

The second full-length from CORPSESSED is brutal; although it doesn’t feel the need to break the 250 BPM barrier to show how tough it is.

Still rooted in the classic sound of the early 90’s yet with its own doomy touch, it’s really Impetus of Death’s uncanny ability to bring forth a quite unique form of creepiness, almost cinematic in places and quite claustrophobic that sets them apart.

As Matti puts it best, “What can I say? We like to keep things evil and ominous.”

    Tracklisting:
    1. Impetus Of The Dead

Striking while the iron’s hot, Multiversal Abattoir follows close on the heels of Faceless Burial’s debut album, Grotesque Miscreation, at the beginning of 2018. Here, the Australian power-trio simply sharpen their blades, possessing unimaginable death metal might.

Theirs is an unremittingly dark and dexterous sound which draws in a variety of death metal traditions: the gooey grind of early ’90s Finland, the spiralling surge of classic Tampa, the bazooka-blown fury of old Brazil, the atonal angularity ushered in by Immolation, and the cacophonous caverns traveled by Incantation.

Necrophile 'Awakening Those Oppressed' Vinyl LP

    £16.99

Fittingly titled Awakening Those Oppressed, NECROPHILE’s first full-length is a literal blast from the past, like the hypothetical album that could’ve followed that cult split LP with Abhorer.

From throttling deathrash to quick ‘n’ concise grindcore, with plenty of filthy headbanging in between, Awakening Those Oppressed possesses the immediately ingraining charm that recalls more innocent times: death metal’s earliest, fledgling years, where subgenre splintering had yet to happen, where bands could plow through a whole range of motions so long as they were dark and, above all, deathly.

And that’s exactly what Necrophile’s debut LP is – and it keeps on raging forward, each minute as explosive and exciting as the last. Across ten tracks in 34 minutes, these veterans play with the intensity and enthusiasm of bands half their age.

It’s not so much a “blast from the past,” then, as the past never having stopped: NECROPHILE are eternal, and they’re Awakening Those Oppressed!

Issuing forth like a deadly miasma from the tombs of subterranean Copenhagen, Phrenelith unleash their debut full-length like the hounds of Hades themselves.

Coming off a spate of well-received demos in addition to a split with Spectral Voice on Deutschland’s Iron Bonehead Records plus their Chimaerian Offspring Cassette EP on Extremely Rotten Records, the sound is foetid, guttural and gasping.

Like a half-decomposed corpse disinterred from the marshlands, this slithering rotten filth is hideously attractive, repulsively inviting in its gruesome fascination. A fine sense of poise and grandeur leads to unusual progressions and neck-snapping rhythmic variations.

Atonal apocalyptic melodies collide with off-kilter riff work, crossing the lines between traditional filthy death metal found on the lost tapes of the ’80s alongside splendid maniacal hooks a mile wide which will stand the test of time.

This is the Desolate Endscape – abandon hope and embark on the descent.

    £21.99

Døden Læger Alle Sår was recorded at Earhammer Studio, California subsequent to UNDERGANG’s three-week U.S. tour in July 2014.

The new material is a blend of the suffocating and filthy heaviness heard on the band’s previous two albums, Indhentet Af Døden (2010) and Til Døden Os Skiller (2012), whilst adding more twists and neck-breaking brutality to the mix.

UNDERGANG was formed in the early summer of 2008, with the intent of playing old styled, low tuned and extremely heavy Death Metal.

Since the earliest breath of existence took place, the band has always kept pushing their limits and always stayed active, both in the studio and in live environments.

Described as “Obituary twisted by Demilich”, Indhentet Af Døden bludgeons you with brutal riffs performed with with an almost hardcore-like single-mindedness (that would be the Obituary part).

But don’t confuse this with simple-mindedness; Undergang keep you on your toes by adding the odd weird riff and time-signature change (and that would be the Demilich twist).

A visit to the sewer that will bring you all the subterranean horrors and the chaos of pure filth... It's like a horror tale of unpredictable dimensions. That's exactly what these two bands are able to achieve with this split of putrid meat.

On one hand the Danes, UNDERGANG, with their unique brand of heavy and brutal death metal, taking influences from anything insane.

One song takes you on the trip into the aforementioned sewer and you yourself into the mental asylum. They can't stop surprising with the heaviness of their sound and their devotion to play sickness induced death metal. This is an appetiser for their forthcoming fifth full length, and if this song is even more brutal than their previous stuff, maybe that's because of the addition of two new members to the roster, Mads Haarløv (INIQUITY, SWOLLEN) on lead guitars and backing vocals and Martin Leth Andersen (CEREKLOTH, STRYCHNINE) on bass.

Their partners in this crime are the Finns GOREPHILIA, with their obsession for twisted and skilful US-influenced death metal. They can't deny their love for morbidity and suffering, and they do it so well that it hurts. Massive production to show you that the journey into the macabre will make you rest in pain, for sure.

Anatomia / Undergang 'Split' Vinyl 10" - Green

    £11.99

Bloodshot Red Vinyl. A glorious testimony to both bands’ shared history, this 10″ split harks back to when the entities first met: the sacrilegious madness and unholy intoxication of 2010’s inaugural Kill-Town Death Fest.

Undergang offer forth an eight minute hymn of atonally disturbed churning hatred for your vomitous displeasure, exhumed from the crypts of 2011 and previously unreleased. Over the course of three LPs and over a half-dozen demos, splits and EPs, the grotesque Danish threesome have crafted a dense-yet-spacious sound of unique underworldly horror.

Hypnotic and miserable, their trademark unutterably guttural vocals, disgustingly down-tuned bludgeoning assault and bulldozer percussion sounds like something found in a sewer that was bricked up and abandoned in the last century.

Joined by Tokyo mutants Anatomia, the veteran Japanese death/doom coven fittingly present a likewise-unearthed curse from their former incarnation as a three-piece in 2010.

Magisterial and ominous in a spectre of haunting disdian, this stand-alone monument to decay is another almost-eight-minute epic, arrogant and disdainful in its splendid wrath.

The entire festering mess is suitably housed in simply dreadful artwork courtesy of the perverted mind of Undergang’s D. Torturdød.

Five years and two new members – drummer Kauko Kuusisalo who joined right after the release of their debut album and second six-stringer Pauli Gurko who arrived last year – later, Finland’s most in-your-face death metal band is back and they still are forging their way with a hammer.

“This was meant at first to be an EP” reveals their original guitarist Jukka Aho “but it slowly grew into a full-length. Some of the songs date all the way back to 2012 and the material has had much time to ferment resulting in GOREPHILIA’s most refined compositions yet. The lyrics explore the inner conflict and self-destructive nature of man – parting from his will, values and life.

The album was recorded with Tommi Otsavaara, mostly live in studio with the exception of vocals and guitar solos, just like for our debut.” If lately many of their contemporaries, including famed label mates KRYPTS whom Jukka is incidentally also part of, have decided to reconnect themselves with the ‘classic Finnish sound’ of the early 90’s, GOREPHILIA have on the other hand decided to go against the tide and turn their gaze towards the US for inspiration.

Their goal is pretty simple: making sure their take on the genre has the kind of sudden impact few will recover from. Whereas others tend to wave around their prey, they’re in for the kill and after ‘Embodiment of Death’ back in 2012, their second full-length ‘Severed Monolith’ is deemed to twist the knife in the wound even deeper.

The only moment where you’ll be able to catch your breath is the interlude ‘Words That Solve Problems’, basically a stepping stone for the following onslaught, ‘Black Horns’. And the first track previewed ‘The Ravenous Storm’ is no different, with its furious barrage of blasts and blistering solos.

Rounded off by Raul Gonzalez ‘cosmic’ artwork reminiscent of what he already had done for MORBUS CHRON, ‘Severed Monolith’ is just that, a testament to death metal crushing power.

“Sentient” is the appropriately sci-fi title of the debut album from Nucleus. Hailing from Chicago, Nucleus play a twisted and bizarre strain of death metal influenced by progressive death innovators such as Atheist, as well as under-appreciated bands that were too weird to gain mainstream traction in their own time – innovators such as Timeghoul and Demilich.

The unique lyrics on “Sentient” also steer away from the usual death metal topics and instead seem to have space-traveled here from the headier dimensions of Isaac Asimov, Arthur Clarke and Frank Herbert. Fittingly, given the unusual content and warped riffing, cover art for this album was painted by the master Dan Seagrave. The resulting piece is some of his wildest and most colourful artwork ever.
