Walls Of Dada is Chris Olley from SIX BY SEVEN and Peter G Holmström from The Dandy Warhols. It's a Transatlantic coldwave pop album which has all the analogue warmth and cold war atmosphere of a record coming out in 1982. Chris and Pete first met in 1998 when The Dandy Warhols asked Six By Seven to support them on their first UK tour.

They have been in contact with each other and remained friends ever since and over the years had always talked about making some music together. About a year ago, after hanging out at a Dandy's gig in Nottingham, they made a plan to get something started.

For Chris, and his aversion to making music using computers, the idea from the outset was to create something by simple means so as not to get bogged down by technology and end up sending myriad files and stems across the internet from one computer to the other. In his studio in Nottingham Chris put a drum machine through an amp and synced and sequenced an analogue synth to it and recorded the sounds onto an 8 track recorder.

After adding vocals a Stereo Mix was bounced down and sent over to Portland, Oregon. There, in his home studio, Pete added guitars, bass, synths (and a banjo) to the mix and topped and tailed the songs and sent his own stereo mix back. That was it. No more overdubs were added and there was no heavy mastering or compression or loudness wars were entered into.

A lot of vintage guitars and pedals and synths were used in the process and everything was recorded through amps. This was a throwback to the days of the early eighties when bands started to record on the first commercially available four track recorders and portastudios made by Fostex and Tascam. Because there were only four tracks, a lot of bouncing had to be done and this resulted in hard decision making at an early stage of the recording process and a 'no-going-back' recording, which meant you were committed to something you couldn't change.

This is the process which Chris and Pete wanted to tap into to make Walls Of Dada have that unusual edge that bands these days just don't have anymore because the digital world now provides unlimited space and tracks.

After working on roughly 20 songs across the year the result is an album that sounds like it could have been made in a cold Sheffield or Manchester basement or bedroom back in 1982.

Abstraktion 12 is a double album and only 300 will ever be made and it won't enter the digital domain. Get it while you can.

Recorded live at Rockfield Studios over two days by an accomplished and unique band consisting of two drummers and two guitars and vocal, it has a sound heavily steeped in rock, minimalism and psychedelia, but even with these references, we can't think of a record out there that sounds anything like this one.

In this day and age, that's a pretty hard thing to do. "I'm a punk, always have been, but only in the same sense that La Monte Young was or Jason Pierce is. You don't have to thrash out bar chords on a Les Paul to be a punk. Abstraktion 12 is the most punk record I've ever made since KluBmiX!33, but it sounds nothing like it.

This record was abstract and unique in it's conception, it was a coming together of not just a band but also of  the people who have followed the band and who joined us in the studio for the recording of the album. Having two drummers created the perfect foundation for the songs as they both play the same beats but the slight inflections and movement between them creates a constant pulsing rhythmical shift. For me it was important to be doing this album with Chris Davis, the original drummer from six by seven and someone I had grown up with in music.

Without explanation he understood what was needed to make this record work. Added to this we had the technical skills of second drummer Charlie and Chris Moore on the Fender VI. Chris added a unique sound to the music and plays like no other bass / guitar player, offering only minimal tight bass lines with an occasional extra note played into the perfect pocket, just to remind you that he is there." Chris Olley from six by seven started recording the Dream On project in December 2019 at Rockfield studios. Everything was recorded live and improvised and later edited and overdubbed in his own Batcave Studio with extra drums being recorded at JT Soar Studios in Nottingham.

As Covid 19 approached, an initial internet-only CD was lreleased and then followed by a double CD in a metal tin. SInce that time, six by seven fans have continued to support Olley via his Bandcamp site and he has now released 9 'virtual' albums of the Dream On Project.

At the conclusion of the project Olley asked the fans to come up with a tracklisting for a limited edition vinyl release. Dream On is this vinyl album. It is very much in the spirit of Neu's second album, featuring lengthy krautrock grooves and experiments in blissed out sound with songs of subtle piano and guitar sounds as well as dark and heavy experiments. It sounds a bit like Talk Talk and it sounds a lot like a typical six by seven record; emotional, melodic, uplifting, groovy and dark, but above all, different.

    Tracklisting:
    Side A
    1. I Wanna Be Some Wanna Be
    2. Denkmal

Six by Seven 'The World Loves Me And The Feeling Is Mutual' Vinyl LP

    £21.99

Very Limited vinyl LP. 110 copies only available to stores.

In many ways "The World Loves Me And The Feeling Is Mutual" is the sister album to "The World Hates Me And The Feeling Is Mutual" but this record is a different beast.

With the World Loves Me, Six By Seven return to the sound which gained them such great press and high accolades in the late 90's. Huge build-ups, feral guitars, and emotional lyrics are combined to create a sonic tension and release which is still unmatched by any other band claiming to be doing a similar thing.

Six By Seven were making this type of music long before Sigur Ros or The National turned up. This record, perhaps more than any other, embodies this sound again.

    Tracklisting:
    Side A
    1. What You Say, Ain't What You Do
    2. Carry Me Home
    3. The Way I Wanted You
    4. Give Us A Chance

Six By Seven 'Then, Now And Neil' Vinyl 2xLP - Red/Blue

    £25.49

Double coloured Red and Blue Vinyl Recorded At The New Batcave in Nottingham during 2021. Limited to 250 copies only.

A double album compilation of two double CDs called: 'Neil Young's Shirt' and 'Now And Then' which were released on Bandcamp during mid 2020 and early 2021.

Although Chris Olley's songwriting is obviously heavily influenced by the legendary Talk Talk albums 'The Colour Of Spring' and 'Laughing Stock', 'Now, Then And Neil', makes sure the songs and sounds are not just content with the slow burning melancholy of the Talk Talk albums, but that they build up and have the added aggression of the distinct Six By Seven post rock style which earned them such accolade in the 2000's.

Although there are shorter more rocking songs and a couple of trademark lyrically twisted ballads, most of the songs on this album sound like mini-symphonies as they extended and are allowed to evolve and build into epic soundscapes.

As one fan recently wrote on six by seven's Bandcamp site: "Another brilliant collection from start to finish. The whole album is just beautiful. 2020-2021 has had some of the absolute best music ever released under the name Six By Seven."

    Tracklisting:
