    The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Revelation'

    £7.99

Revelation is the first album that was fully recorded & produced at Anton's recording studio in Berlin . It is the 14th full length release from the Brian Jonestown Massacre recorded from late 2012 to early 2014, with Anton Newcombe refining the 13 tracks that appear on the album.

Featuring appearances from: Ricky Maymi (an original member of the band), Joachim Alhund (Les Big Byrd), Constatine Karlis (Dimmer), Ryan Van Kriedt (Asteroid #4) as well as a vocal performance in Swedish by Joachim Alhund (Les Big Byrds) on the opening track.

This album brings the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound mixed with eastern influences & bringing it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.

Two dozen band members later and numerous ups and downs (some have been famously sensationalized in the media ), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective, is front man Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe.

    £9.99

Led by the remarkable Ian Svenonius, prime mover behind two of the most essential bands of our time, Nation Of Ulysses and The Make-Up, and author of two books, The Psychic Soviet and Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock 'n' Roll Group, not to mention online talk show host and auteur filmmaker, Chain And the Gang deal in a new genre called CRIME ROCK that updates rock n roll, blues, and gospel music or vocal quartets from the late 50s /early 60s for the discerning few.

A gang with a fluid and floating active core, Minimum Rock N Roll was recorded in Portland Oregon with Ian and Katie Alice on vocals, Brett playing the electric guitar, Chris on electric bass guitar, and Fiona driving the drum kit and then mixed down in DC by Brendan Canty. More minimal and more ferocious, more lean and more mean, Minimum Rock N Roll is Chain & the Gang looking for food, hungry and intent on devouring the known world, once they find its tender underbelly.

Minimum Rock N Roll is a protest against a world where everything is available¦ the internet's engorgement of the senses has bred a world that's stupefied, self-satisfied and sedate. It's time for a diet. This record is a kind of aural austerity! Barely any words! Hardly any beats! Fewer notes! Its just EXACTLY ENOUGH.

    Black Moth: Tumbleweave
Since the release of their universally acclaimed debut, The Killing Jar, the Moth's brand of stoner rock has been picking up fans all over the place and all over the world it seems. This is the very first taster of the follow up. Once again at the production helm is uber Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos, and Tumbleweave is a monster slice of huge riffage with hooks and groove, all topped off by the vulpine vocals of Harriet Bevan. Believe us when we say that the new album is a killer.

    Baby In Vain: Sweetheart Dreams
These three girls from Denmark may be all under 20, but boy are they able to create a monstrous noise. We saw them play a blistering set at The Reeperbahn Festival when Antlered Man were in Hamburg for the event. Sweetheart Dreams takes the quiet/loud Grunge template and makes it quieter and louder and heavier, top that off with some sinuous dual vocals and you have a piece of heavy music that belies their years. Watch out for them when they come to Blighty for The Great Escape Festival.

    Limb: Plague Doctor
You may have heard this track as part of the recent Witch Hunter split single with fellow London sludgers Gurt. But you won't have heard it quite like this. Remixed to maximum sludge levels it's heavier than ever. Their debut long player on NHS will be out the week before this and this track is not on it.

    Throne: Ascender
This London trio have been much talked about for a while since their 7" release on NHS brought them to everyone's attention. So here's an exclusive, a brand new track full of their trademark visceral doom riffage, heavy groove and wonderfully melancholic and melodic vocals. This lot manage to make doom metal catchy as hell. Produced by wunderkind on the block Chris Fielding.

    Antlered Man: Alright Celebrate
This band are ferocious.. there's no two ways about it. Heavy and uncompromising as only they can be. Their mix of prog, hardcore and metal is truly unique, just check out their new album 'This Devil Is Them'. Then go check 'em out live.. they kick serious ass. This track is a new song not included on their album but also recorded with And So I Watch You From Afar producer Rocky O'Reilly.

    Monolithian: Sea Of Trees
Another bunch of young metalheads that are surely but steadily getting a name for themselves. This bass and drums duo from Cornwall create a wall of sound that most bands with more members can only aspire to. Heavier than Satan's gonads, they take in doom, sludge, crust, hardcore and twist it into something that is totally and crushingly their own.

    Transmaniacon: Please Kill Me
These guys have a pretty uncompromising concept album in the can for NHS. Inspired by a love for 70's hard rock, Transmaniacon take the weighty Hammond organ fuelled grooves of Mountain and Bloodrock into the 21st century. This track will not be on the album, and is a proggy take on an Alice Cooper/Alex Harvey style rock out.

Cut Yourself In Half: Little Misadventure
The Bradford riff machine as we like to call them. Noise, psychedelics tunes...they got 'em. Their debut album for NHS showed that this lot can truly pull riff laden hooks out of the bag like falling of a log. The album drew (welcome) QOTSA comparisons,  and this is a track from their debut, remixed and stoked up especially for this release.

    Vodun: Possession
Another London band starting to make some serious noise amongst those in the know. A raw and powerfull slice of voodoo fuelled turbo-metal riffage, Vodun are lucky to have at their disposal an awesome drummer, amazing guitarist and a truly brilliant  vocalist in Chantal Brown ' a new kind of power-trio! They rock like no one else and are also a mesmerizing live experience. This is another exclusive new track for this release and their first since their mini album 'Eat Up The Sun'.

Mars Red Sky: Clean White Hands
The Psychomagik club brought these French space-rockers to our attention, and then the completely 'on-the money' Desertfest people brought them over to blow us away at last March's event. Brooding fuzz-bass grooves, psyched out and heavy guitar licks of the Kyuss variety and super memorable vocal lines on this trademark slab of acid-doom. A new album and a UK tour this year we are told!

    Withered Hand 'New Gods'

    £9.99

The long awaited second album New Gods by WITHERED HAND (aka Edinburgh based folk-rock troubadour Dan Willson) will be released in March via Fortuna POP! (UK/Europe) and Slumberland (US/Canada).

The eleven meditations on love, fidelity and transience therein see Willson's songwriting hit dizzying heights: by turns confessional and melancholy, raucous and life-affirming; his trademark dark humour turned down a wee notch; life, in all its many facets, turned up to full.Active in the world of visual art and dabbling in music for many years, Dan Willson came late to singing and songwriting at age 30, in a period of reflection between the death of a close friend and the birth of his first child. The resultant material, much of which went on to become the album Good News, was praised for its depth and startling honesty, and won him accolades from the likes of Rolling Stone and Mojo, as well as fans from Jarvis Cocker to Marc Riley.

The ensuing years saw him embraced by the now defunct Fife-based musical powerhouse the Fence Collective and his songs picked up by MTV and cult series Skins.A prolific live performer, recent Withered Hand shows have included Pam Berry of seminal 90s US noisepop band Black Tambourine (who also contributes vocals to the new album) amid a rotating cast of musical friends embellishing Dan's exuberant and original songwriting, alongside his fragile and uplifting solo performances.Aided by a grant from arts council body Creative Scotland, New Gods saw Withered Hand entering a proper studio for the first time to work with legendary Scottish producer Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai, Mountain Goats, Teenage Fanclub), and features guest appearances from a veritable who's who of Scottish music including King Creosote, Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines, and members of Belle & Sebastian (Stevie Jackson, Chris Geddes) and Frightened Rabbit (Scott Hutchison).Across the eleven songs on New Gods, Willson deals with the big stuff: love, death, friendship, infidelity, road trips, stargazing and cough mixture abuse. First single proper, the magnificent 'Horseshoe', kicks off proceedings with its plaintive entreaty Please don't put a shadow on her lung. Love and the fear of loss is the theme here. Nobody you love will ever die, sings Dan.

It's followed by the album taster track 'Black Tambourine', the purest pop song on the album, an anti-hipster anthem that jangles in all the right places. 'King Of Hollywood' details a night in LA with Willson's friend and mentor King Creosote, Willson's keen eye for detail as hilarious as ever, while title track 'New Gods' sees him transported to Switzerland, cutting across the fields at night and staring up at the Milky Way, like a huge ribbon across the sky, infinitely beautiful and humbling.

This is widescreen pop music par excellence. The five years since Good News was recorded has seen Willson honing his craft, building his audience and gaining critical momentum. The new album is a beautifully executed collection of songs from one of Scotland's most gifted songwriters.

    Motorpsycho 'Behind The Sun'

It's safe to say that after 25 years Motorpsycho has cemented their position as an institution in Norwegian music, no rock band has even been close to achieving the same status when it comes to longterm quality, credibility, integrity and respect.

"...One day in the 25th year of the Motorpsychodelic Union, the forces of D/Numbness were finally vanquished. Once again the intergalactic Four Norsemen of the Rock Avant could fly their veg zeppelin unchallenged across the solar plains, their mission complete and the righteous deed done! ¦for still they held sway, and on this day at least - somewhere Behind The Sun - they were triumphant!"

For their previous album Still Life With Eggplant they assembled some 20 songs of what Bent Sæther called other music, simply songs from the last three years that didn't suit the operatic Unicorn behemot, but refused to be ignored.

For most of the recording sessions the core trio was augmented by guitarist Reine Fiske. Best known for his work in Swedish psych-combos Dungen and The Amazing, Reine is an old acquaintance of the band, and his recent exploits with Ståle Storløkken's Elephant9 had made the pairing seem like a potentially interesting one for Motorpsycho as well.

So well, in fact, that he tagged along for most live shows as well as the recording of the new magnum opus "Behind The Sun". With nine tracks clocking in at just over an hour, the album also brings the "Hell, Part 1-3" from "Still Life With Eggplant" to a conclusion (?) with "Hell, Part 4-6" and the closing track "Hell, Part 7".

And as with "Still Life With Eggplant" the recording was done in Brygga Studio in their hometown of Trondheim where they had recorded a few of their first albums (Soothe, Demon Box and Timothy's Monster) some twenty years ago.

Guests this time, in addition to Reine Fiske, is Ole Henrik Moe on viola and saw and Kari Rønnekleiv on violin, both known from their Norwegian Grammy winning album "Ciaccona/3 Persephone Perceptions" (RCD2068) from 2007.

After last years Hyperdub debut with the popular 'Set The Tone' EP, Ossie's been busy building a name for himself, as a DJ and a producer with both Ossie and Black Orange Juice releases.

He comes back to Hyperdub here with the 'Ignore EP', sporting two catchy, housey, broken beat bombs. 'Ignore' features the vocals of Tilz, singing about the game of winding up the opposite sex, over bouncy, broken drums, neat stabs, and a bendy acidic bassline, with wave-like chords building up and down as if in reflection of the cat and mouse antics of the lyrics.

'Find It' on the B-side makes good with layering some roughly cut up female vocal samples, Todd Edwards-style, but twisted and dubbed into strange shapes, incorporating sloppy, dusty drums and a bassline that sounds like Wiley's early eski beat melodies, keeping the track rolling along and sounding mischievous and chunky. This release continues Ossie's building reputation as a house producer with a very British sound.

DVA started off Hyperdub's barrage of albums in 2012 with his brilliant 'Pretty Ugly', and now closes the the year with the 'Fly Juice' EP's bumper selection of machine tooled tracks, each created for optimum dancefloor damage and road tested by DVA, Kode9 and a select bunch of DJs.

These tracks (four on the double-pack vinyl, with four extra on the digital version) are a brilliant example of what he's been describing as power house for a while, a colourful chunky techno sound that switches up every 8 bars like grime and has plenty of shuffle and offbeat swing as a counterpoint to the 4/4 drums.

'Fly Juice' opens with sweet jazz funk Rhodes before dropping into weightless bouncey chopped vocals and stuttering drums building through 8 bar patterns - with the Rhodes as a sweetner, it's bliss! 'Do It' runs a stuttering voice, a huge deep bassline and relentless building stabs against shuffling drums.

On 'Walk it Out', the repetition of the title over a pummelling two note melody is positively dumb, but pitched against swirling effects and whooshing chords the effect is epic.

'Long Street' features a collaboration with South African producer Big Space, and echoes the sound of early UK bleep and bass with a stern melody, breaking down into swirling Detroit-like chords, while shuffling along on a crisp, scissoring rhythm.

After the sweet and sour songfulness of his album 'Pretty Ugly', the 'Fly Juice' EP shows DVA returning to his dancefloor roots. As an amazing DJ/producer, you can expect more of this in 2013.

Walton returns with a strictly-limited EP to precede the release of his debut album 'Beyond'. This is a vinyl-only, once it's gone it's gone kind of release, just 300 copies available.

'Baby' is a brilliant and extreme mutation based around an R&B accapella, one that seems energised by R&B's avant-garde but danceable late '90s period.

A hiccuping giggle over stuttering rusty engine stabs, and a so-stiff-it's-funky kick and and snare combination, make this a track that works brilliantly on the dance floor by sheer force of ideas and wildness.

'Can't You See's' widescreen ambience is  held together by epic swelling chords, punctuated with rolling 8-bit spirals, trap-like bass, and snares. It's held together so tightly, it feels like it's going to 'drop' at any time, but prefers to just tease the listener in a state of excited suspense. Also included is an instrumental version of 'Baby'.

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, band leader from Ethyl Meatplow and The Geraldine Fibbers. First solo album in seven years, following a string of releases with her Evangelista project. Bozulich's self-proclaimed pop record! Carla Bozulich, an art-punk heroine with almost three decades of exceptional, iconoclastic musical activity under her belt, returns with the third record of her storied career to be issued in her own name.

Boy is Carla's self-proclaimed "pop record" and is a refreshing and much-needed reminder of what pop can mean in the hands of a ferociously commanding singer/lyricist who has cut her teeth on genre-bending, genre'blending, and DIY production for 25 years.

Boy is unmistakably a pop-influenced album by way of punk, avant rock and lo/mid-fi; a batch of ten songs that clock in at 3-5 minutes each, mostly hewing to recognizable structures of verse, chorus and bridge, but full of destabilizing accents and strategies.

The songs are replete with hooks and melodies, delivered chiefly by the singing itself, with the underlying instrumentation and arrangements always in the service of Carla's voice and lyrics. Boy is without doubt the sharpest, supplest, most satisfying and most generous album that Bozulich has made in recent years, and also happens to be one of her most immediately accessible.  It is a definitive expression ' and should serve as a welcome reminder ' of Bozulich's unique tastes, talents and trajectories.

Perhaps the most immediately apparent characteristic of the fifth Russian Circles album, Memorial is its wide range of emotion.

Vacillating from somber-yet-soaring melodies on one track to pummeling metal heft on the next.

Memorial sounds like an album with split personalities.  "We've always tried to balance our metal-influenced sounds with more nuanced, pretty, orchestral elements," Cook says. "But this time, it's far more polarized in that the heavy parts are much more blown out and exaggerated while the pretty moments are far more restrained, delicate, and atmospheric." In the two years since Russian Circles released their landmark fourth album Empros, the Chicago trio toured worldwide nearly incessantly, encountering many heavy acts whose music seemed needlessly complicated.

"We set out to make a straightforward, intense, heavy record," Cook explains. "We subconsciously gravitated toward darker and more somber sounds. We wanted to get away from the overtly flashy."  In search of such a streamlined sound, the trio focused on each individual song having its own emotional and musical characteristics. As such, Memorial almost feels like stages of grief. That notion might be aided by 1) the album's clever structuring, in which it ends in the same place as it starts, and 2) special guest vocalist Chelsea Wolfe lending her hauntingly somber vocals to the album closing title track.

To a degree, the monolithic, juxtaposed moods on Memorial is the band's reaction to the proliferation of iPod culture affecting how bands write music. Today, most musicians are trying to mash together disparate elements with results sounding as unpalatable as cooking a meal
"I want to hear a band with a broad palette," Cook says. "But it should find that weird balance with breadth and width. We wanted to make a record with more extreme peaks and valleys. I'm hoping that we can get away with making a schizophrenic record."

Chicago post-metal trio Russian Circles return with not only their fourth and heaviest album to date ' but also, with Empros they're poised to take the crown as innovators reinvigorating the staid trappings of genre.

Empros picks up where the anthemic riffs and melodies of 2009's Geneva left off and injects evermore slithering rhythms amid skull-crushing heft with all the visceral intensity of Godflesh, Swans and Neurosis. Put simply, Empros is Russian Circles' Master of Reality: a radical revision of both heavy and melody that is monolithic in its clarity and perfection.

Or, like a lone surviving wooly beast emerging from a brutal winter's frost, Empros is the sound of a band shaking the ages from its shoulders with all the brutal force of a behemoth awakened. Russian Circles -- guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz and bassist Brian Cook ' recorded Empros at Phantom Manor in Chicago with Brandon Curtis of The Secret Machines & Interpol,  who also produced the band's previous album Geneva.

Empros marks the band's first full-length to be released worldwide exclusively via Sargent House -- the band's longtime management company and record label that had previously released only the vinyl editions of its three previous albums.

The relationship between the calm before the storm and the storm itself is a crucial element of post-rock. The patience and restraint to allow the music to build slowly and organically is an incredible virtue within the genre, and it's a virtue that Russian Circles have been growing into over the course of their career.

On Geneva, their third full-length outing, we find a band that has matured as songwriters. With a larger, more atmospheric set of tools at their disposal, the band crafts songs that are more about buildup than release. Instead of down the usual "build, build, build, destroy" route that's so common, the songs grow organically, with changes unfolding so naturally that the big finish is more of a logical conclusion than an explosion.

Brian Cook's (of Botch and These Arms Are Snakes) impact on this record is more apparent than it was on Station. His gritty, fuzzed-out bass provides a dynamic contrast to the lighter moments, providing a bit of sonic dirt for the more ethereal guitar parts to play in.

This influence might also have something to do with Russian Circles' further tempering of their metal tendencies. While Geneva has its heavier moments (like "Fathom" and "Geneva"), they're not as out-and-out metal as their past work, more reminiscent of Pelican's later work or the sludgy harmony of Zozobra. If you weren't already on the Russian Circles bandwagon, this is the perfect opportunity to jump on.

Recorded in Amsterdam in 1988, the live Performance documents a set from the Perfect Prescription tour; the emphasis here is on the group's loud, noisy origins -- only the closing "Feel So Good" hints at the more subdued atmospheres and textures which emerged as Spacemen 3's primary focus as they approached Playing With Fire.

Among the highlights: "Take Me to the Other Side," "Walkin' With Jesus" and "Come Together."
