It's hard to believe, but it was 20 years ago when dinosaur first roamed the back roads and byways of central massachusetts.  J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph formed their band in 1984 in the sleepy college town of amherst, ma, and went on to change the face of rock forever¦whether they actually ever intended to or not.

Long before the folks in seattle were raiding thrift stores for flannel, dinosaur jr. Laid the groundwork for a seismic shift in the underground rock scene. These first three albums, with their sonic wall of melodic bass, furious drums and stunning guitar wizardry, coupled with an almost laissez faire vocal delivery, became the sonic blueprint for what would become known as alternative rock over the next decade.

Dinosaur jr. Single-handedly moved the indie scene from the rigid ideology and rapid fire bursts of hardcore and post-punk into a new era of introspective yet no less powerful expression. Instead of dismissing the influences of 60s and 70s rock, as had been the rallying cry of punk, Dinosaur jr. embraced the heavy guitar riffs and melodic underpinnings of a bygone era, and created a full on sonic assault that took the world by surprise if not by storm.

Some folks called it the perfect union of sonic youth and neil young, and when it's all said and done that's as good a reference point as any. The influence that dinosaur jr. Has had on their peers and future generations of musicians/bands is immeasurable.

Now, 20 years since the release of their self-titled debut  that left folks scratching their heads (yet at the same time hungry for more) sweet nothing/cargo is honoured to bring these three classic cds back into print after years of scattered availability.

Originally released on two of the most influential independent labels of the times ' Homestead and SST ' Dinosaur, you're living all over me and bug will now be available to an entirely new generation of music fans.  If there is any justice these recordings will be just as influential the second time around¦

Remastered and reissued with original cover artwork, booklet contains never-before seen images that are sure to electrify longtime fans.  Bonus materials include videos for classic tracks little fury things, just like heaven.

Also included are extensive new liner notes compiled by music writer/gadfly Byron Coley featuring interviews/commentary from Thurston Moore, Mike Watt and Robert Pollard

Acclaimed filmmaker allison anders also contributed liner notes for bug.  But really, who needs extra bells and whistles?  These albums contain so much raw power and melodic tension that they speak well enough for themselves, as seminal pieces of american rock and roll history.

    Sweet Nothing

    Icarus Line 'Penance Soiree'

Icarus Line have always trumpeted squawk over rock convention, but Penance Soiree jacks that ante from the very first measure of "Up Against the Wall." Sneering like a crack whore Mick Jagger ("Why can't I get some fo' free?!") and swallowing the bassline howl whole, Icarus vocalist Joe Cardamone makes sex the type of thing to be scared of.

There's post-punk in here -- that angularness that's the rage with operators too cool for things like "smelling nice" and "having a job." Icarus Line will attract these couture ghouls, no question. But Penance Soiree might also have true and valorous mass appeal, a shelf life past its buzz as an export from the land of inky black hair styles. Don't doubt it: Icarus Line are crazy. But listen to that melodic preen in "Spike Island," and the way its guitars roar and teeter for an unavoidable groove -- this isn't the inaccessible intellectualism of Mars Volta, or Liars' distempered noise quackery. No, Icarus Line are uniters, not dividers. Even when "On the Lash" loses interest in its cracked psychedelia and rides Cardamone's reverbed wail into a pile of ridiculous static muck, it reengages with fresh crackling fury.

"I can feeeeeeeel it," he screams over the pound, and it's better than hearing Van Halen for the very first time. The rest of Soiree is no slouch, either, cleverly weaving between the cones of insularity and throbbing accessibility. "Getting Bright at Night" is nine minutes of Karl Wallinger binging on old 4AD records, the beat-damaged "Caviar" invites the world to its druggy key party, and "Virgin Velcro" tears a hole in the disco ball to find strutting heavy metal inside. As serious as things get on Penance Soiree (and the choppy "Spit On" gets pretty serious), there's the happily nagging notion that Icarus Line just want to entertain, and that they're damn good at it. The notion pays off in the last two minutes. "Party the Baby Off," behind all that squelch and trebly production, is just T. Rex classic rock with a message for the kids: "Tonight, take off all your clothes." Icarus Line -- pop's new heartthrobs. - Allmusic

  • Inger Lorre & The Chiefs of Infinity 'Snowflake' - Cargo Records UK

    Sweet Nothing

Inger Lorre & The Chiefs of Infinity 'Snowflake'

Limited to 500 copies worldwide on Snowflake white vinyl.

Infamous former front woman for seminal band, the Nymphs, Inger Lorre is making her long overdue return to the music scene.  Following up 1999's solo record, Transcendental Medication and the collectable Motel Shootout single, Burn (1995) with a 7 single.

Inger admits her return to the music scene has been a long journey,  The music I hear on commercial radio stations is mostly uninspiring. It makes me think how lucky I was to be part of that grunge scene and witness the success of bands like Sonic Youth.  So I've been gathering my energy.  For me making music is the easy part, dealing with people at major labels ' that was always hard.  I never understood the value my music might have to others - I credit Jeff Buckley with making me see that.  Until that point I didn't feel like I was doing anything important or good¦When Jeff died it was just one week after my father passed away, and it took me a long time to be able to move on from that trauma.

Why now?  Having good people around me such as Henry Rollins and my long-time publicist and friend Faye has helped me feel strong and safe enough to create new music.  I'm glad to step back into the music industry, independently and on my own terms ' I feel empowered.  I also have a new band that are young, talented and full of enthusiasm!

Inger is currently working on a new album, but welcomes the opportunity to be involved in Record Store Day, I want to really celebrate the spirit of independence - record stores ran by music fans for music fans. These are the people I want to make great music for!

Snowflake is a song summing up the horror and the fear involved in addiction. I'm very pale skinned and 'Snowflake' was my street name.  As a teenager and young adult I was trapped in a self-medicating addiction, as a form of protection against physical & verbal abuse and constantly being around alcoholism. As much as it harmed me it also saved me from becoming a teenage suicide. This song is the sound of me walking through fire. Hate in my Heart is about the downside of relationships, confused emotions and the fine line between love & hate.  It's also about making the decision not to take anymore bullshit.

  • Inger Lorre 'Live At The Viper Room' PRE-ORDER - Cargo Records UK

Inger Lorre 'Live At The Viper Room'

    Sweet Nothing

Inger Lorre 'Live At The Viper Room'

Bundle with Purple 2xLP + 'Snowflake' 7" available.

Purple vinyl - Infamous Nymphs front woman Inger Lorre celebrates how vital her songs still sound today, with a live recording of a sold-out show at the legendary Viper Room.

The set includes classic Nymphs tracks, ‘Sad & Damned’, ode to a serial killer ‘The Highway’ and the mourning swirl of ‘Imitating Angels’, with the addition of a cover of Siouxsie & The Banshees ‘Monitor’.

This live album is raw and primal; tribal, glamorous, witch-y, grunge-y, punk. Inger states, “These songs are the sound of me walking through fire…” Lorre’s cult following has grown in strength of late, with the seminal self-titled debut album re issued by Rock Candy Records and 2 new songs released for Record Store Day. Encouraged by the interest she is recording a new album, tentatively planned for an autumn release.

Often seen as musician’s musician (once dubbed by Jeff Buckley as ‘The Patron Saint of Fucked-Over Musicians’) and having worked with the likes of Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins, sadly Inger’s notoriety often eclipsed her darkly beautiful music. Haunted by the infamy of a band that burned brightly all too briefly, before imploding in a devastation of bereavement, addiction, mental health issues and misguided record company dealings. No one will ever forget the desk pissing incident.

Inger Lorre is a music industry legend. These days Inger Lorre has mostly conquered her own demons - exorcised through art, music and time to heal. What comes next will no doubt be unique as the women herself.

“Inger retains her strength as a songwriter and performer without losing any of her sensitivity, fragility and danger. I always look forward to what she does, it never disappoints” – Henry Rollins

"The Nymphs were a very original underground band with a unique sound and GREAT songs" - Iggy Pop

“Inger Lorre is a magician, a shaman…that kind of witch-doctor ability for live performing” – Eric Avery, Jane’s Addiction

Psychic TV 'The Evening Sun Turns Crimson'

A live musical performance to Derek Jarman's 'In The Shadow of the Sun'. Recorded live at Cafe OTO, London, England ' May 23, 2017.

Derek Jarman's 'In The Shadow of the Sun' forms part of a series of films, shot and edited on s8mm, grouped under the collective title 'The Art of Mirrors'. 'In The Shadow of the Sun' is the longest of these running at 54 minutes.

Filming took place between 1972-74 and the film was completed in 1974. When Derek showed the film he would play Verdi's requiem as an accompaniment. In 1980 the FDK in Berlin agreed to make a 16mm blow up of the s8mm film to be shown at the Berlinale forum.

The footage was blown-up to 16mm by John Hall of Colour Technique. Derek felt that the new version should have a new accompaniment and, with this in mind, approached Throbbing Gristle to provide the music.

In May 23 of 2017, Psychic TV performed two live soundtracks to 'In The Shadow of the Sun' at Cafe OTO in London.

The recordings on this LP were made that night. The finished film was premiered at the Berlin film festival in february 1981. In 2018 the British Film Institute undertook the making of a 2k scan from the 16mm negative and sound.

Filmed & edited by Derek Jarman.

16mm version produced by James Mackay.

  • Various Artists 'The Ballad Of Genesis And Lady Jaye: Music From The Motion Picture' - Cargo Records UK

    Sweet Nothing

Various Artists 'The Ballad Of Genesis And Lady Jaye: Music From The Motion Picture'

Music soundtrack to the intimate, affecting portrait of the life and work of ground-breaking performance artist and music pioneer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV) and his other half and collaborator, Lady Jaye, centered around the daring sexual transformations the pair underwent for their Pandrogyne project.

Featuring music by Psychic TV, Thee Majesty and his other collaborations. Genesis P-Orridge has been one of the most innovative and influential figures in music and fine art for the last 30 years. A link between the pre- and post-punk eras, he is the founder of the legendary groups COUM Transmissions (1969-1976), Throbbing Gristle (1975-1981), and Psychic TV (1981 to present), all of which merged performance art with rock music.

Celebrated by critics and art historians as a progenitor of industrial music, his innovations have transformed the character of rock and electronic music while his prodigious efforts to expand the boundaries of live performance have radically altered the way people experience sound in a concert setting. But that's just the preamble to the story.

Defying artistic boundaries, Genesis has re-defined his art as a challenge to the limits of biology. In 2000, Genesis began a series of surgeries in order to more closely resemble his love, Lady Jaye (née Jacqueline Breyer), who remained his other half and artistic partner for nearly 15 years.

It was the ultimate act of devotion, and Genesis's most risky, ambitious, and subversive performance to date: he became a she in a triumphant act of artistic self-expression. Genesis called this project Creating the Pandrogyne. Influenced, like so much of Genesis work, by Brion Gysin and William Burroughs Cut Ups , it was an attempt to deconstruct two individual identities through the creation of an indivisible third. This is a love story, and a portrait of two lives that illustrate the transformative powers of both love and art. Marie Losier brings to us the most intimate details of Genesis's extraordinary, uncanny world. In warm and intimate images captured handheld, Losier crafts a labyrinthine mise-en-scene of interviews, home movies, and performance footage. The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye documents a truly new brand of Romantic consciousness, one in defiance of the daily dehumanization of the body by the pervasive presence of advertising and pornography, conveying beauty, dignity and devotion from a perspective never before seen on film.

The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye has been theatrically released in France (5 markets, several screens in Paris) and will be theatrically released in Germany (10 markets, through the Arsenal) with more international sales pending. In North America, Jeff Lipsky from Adopt Films has acquired all film rights and will be releasing in over 20 markets on March 8th, 2012. Canadian distribution will be operated by Films We Like with plans for a theatrical run in approximately 10 markets.

Mexican release will be operated by the Mexican Cinematheque. Very popular at film festivals around the world in 2011, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye received the TEDDY AWARD for Best Documentary as well as the following awards:
    ¢ Grand Prize Indilisboa
    ¢ Caligari (Germany)
¢ Prix Louis Marcorelles & Prix des Bibliotheques (France) ¢ Audience Award, BAFICI (Argentina) ¢ Artistic Achievement Award, Outfest (USA)
