Leading from the front comes 'Vision Of A Psychedelic Africa', the first new studio album in 15 years from the seminal spiritual roots collective African Head Charge.
With interest in AHC given renewed life by the recent re-issue of their classic 1991 album 'Songs Of Praise', new fans and the group's legion of dedicated followers alike will be eager to submerge themselves in this latest deep collection, produced entirely with Adrian Sherwood at the controls. Without doubt, their patience will be rewarded, the passage of time having caused no dimming of the light in Bonjo's truly mesmerising and booming vision.
AHC leader and chief protagonist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah was born and raised in a Rasta community in the Jamaican hills, and after many years of international travel, in the mid-90s he followed the Rasta dream and relocated to Africa, making his home in Ghana. Returning to London to rehearse for some live shows with Asian Dub Foundation, he teamed up again with longtime collaborator Adrian Sherwood, and 'Vision Of A Psychedelic Africa' is the remarkable result.
Originally inspired by a comment made by Brian Eno in a 1981 interview discussing 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts', this album is African Head Charge at their very best, rich in varied percussion and spritual chants, set over hypnotic and transcendent layers of African rhythms, trippy and bubbling dubbed-out effects, and trademark pounding bass. Contributing musicians from the extended On-U family include Skip McDonald (guitar), Crucial Tony (guitar), Keith leBlanc (drums), Charles 'Eskimo' Fox (drums), and Doug Wimbish (bass).

Formed in the early 80s by On-U head man Adrian Sherwood and percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, African Head Charge have established a unique reputation over the years for producing exceptionally beautiful and deeply strange music.
This is their first release since 2005's 'Visions Of A Psychedelic Africa' and finds Bonjo once again joining forces with long time On-U stable-mates Skip McDonald, Crocodile, and The Crispy Horns, together with contributions from legendary bassist George Oban, Dancehall pioneer Jazzwad and electronic wizard Adamski.
All the elements of a classic African Head Charge album are present; a triumphant mix of dub, psychedelia, trance, afro and tribal rhythms that have given them their own unique place in contemporary music.
'Voodoo Of The Godsent' will be followed in April by the re-release of three seminal On-U Sound albums : Creation Rebel's 'Starship Africa', African Head Charge's 'Off The Beaten Track', and The New Age Steppers' eponymous debut album, which was the first ever LP release on the On-U Sound label.

A shimmering brew of extraterrestrial dub reggae and club music influences.
Audio Active debuted in the UK with On-U Sound in 1994, with the Sherwood produced album, Tokyo Space Cowboys. The album went to No.14 in the UK indie album charts and the single Free The Marijuana went to No.1 in NME magazine DJ chart. Free the Marijuana also drew heavy radio play in Australia, being released around the time the marijuana laws were up for revision.
Using a mix of programming and live instrumentation Audio Active created a dense, dub-inspired world of sound. References to outer space and time travel interests fostered by sci-fi films and animated TV shows like Time Bokanabound in their English lyrics.
However, it's their love of the 'erb that is impossible to ignore and sets them apart on the Japanese music scene, where controversy is anathema. Titles such as Weed Specialist, Kick The Bong Around, Psycho Buds, and the Hempire Strikes Back are just some of the many tributes to their favourite medicine contained in their records.
The band have amongst their influences Jimi Hendrix, Sun Ra, Fela Kuti and Lee Perry and they have collaborated and done countless remixes, for artists as diverse as Haruomi Hosono (Yellow Magic Orchestra), Asian Dub Foundation and Carl Douglas.
Audio Active has toured Europe six times, earning a reputation as a fantastic live band. Appearances include Glastonbury, Big Day Out, Roskilde and other major festival dates, as well as the States, various Asian cities, and performing in a total of sixteen foreign countries.
In their home country of Japan, the band are acknowledged for their reputation as innovators and have played major festivals, including Fuji Rock and the Tibetan Freedom Festival.

Visit product page →Producer Adrian Sherwood and Ari Up, the lead singer of the formative British all-female punk group The Slits, first met in 1978. As Sherwood put it, Ari really stood out in the crowd partly for her appearance but more so for an almost unhinged enthusiasm for the music.
Sherwood and Ari Up would go on to form a long-lasting friendship and musical partnership. Ari Up featured as part of the original On-U collective which recorded under the guise of New Age Steppers in 1980. Their eponymous debut album formed one of the cornerstones of On-U Sound, both as a record label and as a musical production house for the next three decades.
Whenever Sherwood and Ari met up in the UK, they worked together on a then-untitled album. The first of the recordings for that album began a few years ago with the song 'Conquer', then in 2008 Ari Up was diagnosed with the cancer from which she would die just two years later at the end of 2010. With her unquenchable passion for music, she maintained that she and Adrian would finish the album they had begun. And they did. Sherwood flew to Jamaica where they completed the recordings for what now named 'Love Forever'.
The album's title is the name of a track on the very first New Age Steppers album from 1980; often when Ari signed anything it would read Love Forever...Ari. Other On-U Players taking part in the sessions include Denise Sherwood, N. Coplowe, Skip McDonald, Dave Wright, Filipe Tavares, Ghetto Priest and Adamski. In addition to lead vocals, Ari Up is also credited with drum programming, bassines, and keyboards.
All tracks produced by Adrian Sherwood. This latest offering from New Age Steppers is the culmination of 30 years of friendship and love between two of Britain's brightest and creative cult talents. Fittingly, it is also the first release of the 31st year in existence of the mighty On-U Sound imprint, still as proudly independent now as the day it first sprang to life.
