Diagnos have confirmed details of their self-titled debut album, which will be released via CFK Records on July14th, 2017. Founded by Stockholm based artists Marcus Harrling and Per Nyström, Diagnos began taking form eight years ago. Both Nyström and Harrling have long time backgrounds in the Swedish independent music scene in amongst others The Concretes, Monster, Mackaper and Sons of Cyrus

Harrling, whom is also a film maker and has a masters degree from The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, first approached Nyström with the idea of Diagnos as a project to develop soundtracks to super 8 travel films he had shot. The two then began to improvise further, with film and literature inspiration in the foreground and their music interpretations of those influences.

The result is an emotive record, varied between instrumental and vocal numbers, poetic, drony and folky; ranging anywhere from early Sonic Youth in texture and delivery to 70's Swedish Prog in vein of Arbete och Fritid.  Other times you can be hypnotized into the minimalists worlds of Terry Riley and Philip Glass, as repetition and monotony are key elements in their music and employed through the loops of guitars, keyboards and vintage drum machines their songs are built upon.

For the recording of their self-titled debut album a line-up of guest artists were invited to contribute vocals, saxophone, percussion and other instruments adding colorful organic textures to the songs:  Nadine Byrne (Magic State, Ectoplasm Girls), Tove El, Maria Eriksson (The Concretes, Heikki, Strountes), Niek Meul (Das Pop), Oscar Moberg (Ultra El!, Estroboscorpio), Felix Unsöld (Felix Unsöld Kvartett).

Rebekka Karijord's sixth studio album, Mother Tongue, was largely written following the traumatic arrival, three months early, of her first baby. Its extraordinary eleven songs track her experience with uncommon honesty and unshrinking courage. Like a collection of short stories, it chronicles the events surrounding her pregnancy and the agony of nearly losing her daughter, but it's much more than an album about childbirth. Mother Tongue is about instinct, about belonging, and about finding one's own emotional language.

'I never know what my records are about until they're almost done,' Rebekka Karijord admits of Mother Tongue's provenance in a typical, if wry, display of candour. 'It's like a subconscious collecting process, shooting arrows into the dark and then getting out there to see where they have landed. This time, however, it was a bit different - ¦'

The album was recorded in Hawaii, Stockholm & Oslo during 2015 and 2016, and produced, arranged and edited by Karijord with help from Elias Krantz as technician, co-producer and mixer.

Other contributors include Mariam Wallentin (Wildbirds & Peacedrums), Linnea Olsson and Nina Kinert (vocals) Jacob Snavely (bass and electronics), Christopher Cantillo (drums), Joe Williamson (upright bass) and regular contributor Anders Scherp (drums & tuned percussion).

With his wayward mix of infectious melodies, unexpected time signatures and intricate arrangements Elias Krantz established himself on the Swedish alternative scene in 2007 with the album Island Rock released on Airwaves and then again in 2011 with the offering Night Ice released on Country & Eastern Records. His new album, Lifelines, challenges listeners to absorb each eclectic influence and sound experiment as a dynamic whole.

Lifelines consists of two contiguous tracks/sides which enliven the ears and mind like the kinds of conversations worth staying up all night for. This richly detailed music employs a 60‘s Italian tape echo, analog synthesizers and various tape recorders to create a sound that is both retro and modern.

Resisting contemporary trends of restless streaming and playlists, Lifelines loop-based soundscapes demonstrate what's possible when we give the imagination room to breathe. By providing an unfractured listening experience, Lifelines reminds of the dream like narratives that emerge when music compels you to let it all sink in.

Writing in the tradition of American minimalist composers like Terry Riley and Glenn Branca, Krantz spent several years carefully mixing his own tonal pallet, refined amongst the other production and composing projects he works with in Stockholm.

For Lifelines he found inspiration in Japanese electronic music pioneers like Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto and in sources closer to home like the krautrock, electronica and jazz groups in which he has been a long time collaborator in Stockholm, the town he is born and raised in. The result of Krantz's patient effort is a rush of dark exuberance and uniquely analog aesthetic.

‘The breezy looseness of Built to Spill’s earliest releases, Herman Dune’s ingeniousness, or the late St. Thomas’ cracked folk… Nicholas Faraone’s delivery suggests we might expect intimate confessionals in the manner of Bill Callaghan.’ UNCUT

‘Pitched somewhere between the playful jangle of Jeffrey Lewis and the off-kilter wisdom of Guided By Voices...a captivating slice of lo-fi wonder that shines like a gem shimmering in a pool of darkness." LOUD & QUIET

‘Barbarisms is a fresh garage wind on mostly electronic waters in Södermalm.’ NOISEY

Browser jangles and sways as it's narratives prove more elastic with each listen. It is an album that studies how funny we can be in times of desperation, and asks: how much loss we can laugh off before the language of the heart becomes foreign to us? Browser's laid back melodies and warm guitars invite the listener to plunge through lyrical depths. It is an album to listen to when you crave company in a private hell, or want to be alone on vacation. Barbarisms' new release will appeal specifically to listeners who like their Graham Parsons cut with Galaxy 500, and more generally to those who like to discover their lips moving while their toes tap to a thought.

Barbarisms is a trio out of Stockholm, fronted by American songwriter Nicholas Faraone (voice/ guitar) with Tom Skantze (guitar) and Robin Af Ekenstam (drums). The melodies of their 2014 self-titled debut were compared to Guided by Voices and Built to Spill, while the lyrics drew parallels with Destroyer and Silver Jews. Experimenting with rough and ready recording methods to capture the spontaneity of their process, the band developed what Uncut described as a "breezy" aesthetic that highlights the "conversational poetry" of the lyrics. The result Loud & Quiet called "A captivating slice of lo-fi wonder that shines like a gem in a shimmering pool of darkness."

The album photo incidentally, was taken by David Berggren, who introduced Tom and Nicholas at a bus stop. In 30 seconds, he told them they should start a band; a few months later they did.

Simon Stålhamre may be the creative force behind Small Feet, but it was not until he found the assistance of his band mates Jacob Snavely and Christopher Cantillo along with the inspiration of an island cabin residence that he was able to create music without self-sabotaging.

It's a good thing he finally did, and the result is music that showcases Stålhamre's vocals and songwriting over gentle instrumentation and subtle electronic texture. It's beautifully haunting music, that seems to reflect the dark, cold Scandinavian backdrop of Stålhamre's past both physically and emotionally.

Drawing comparisons to Neil Young, Chad van Gaalen and Scandinavian version of Woods, StÃ¥lhamre covers huge swaths of emotional and intellectual ground as casually as if he were strolling out for a smoke, journeying through a shapeshifting landscape of dreams towards what another Scandinavian, Prince Hamlet, called 'the undiscovered country'.

Music For Film And Theatre provides a gorgeous, frequently lush experience. It's one to which KARIJORD herself often accurately applies the label 'ambient': within the repetition of tracks like 'Madrigal', 'Salhus', 'Migratory Birds' and 'Morula' there's an undeniable Eno-esque quality, though inevitably KARIJORD moves in different directions to the godfather of the ambient movement.

Elsewhere there are other comparably experimental excursions: the angelic choral vocals and Arvo Pärt violin of 'Nowhere Home', the ethereal, mystical 'The End, and 'Kjaere Gud', which conjures up the remarkable ghosts of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares.

There are also airier tracks, like the placid, moving yet strangely tense 'Snö', the gentle piano strains of 'Waltz For Norma', and 'Anchor Boy', as delicately melancholic as anything Agnes Obel has delivered.

There will be more to come, too. Now that Music For Film And Theatre has been compiled, KARIJORD is currently working on a further three film projects, and has also begun work writing for her next album.

For the time being, however, Music For Film And Theatre is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy another, mesmerising side to an extraordinary artist's talents.
