May 31st marked the 10 year anniversary of Carina Round's debut album The First Blood Mystery, first released in May 2001 on Animal Noise records. The title is a reference to psychologist Erich Neumann's theory of feminine development with powerful and edgy songs that deal with the darker and more fractious side of human emotions.Visit product page →
Working within a basic guitar, bass, drums format, songs are fleshed out with brass, keyboards, even a string quartet, channelled into often dissonant but always melodic moods of brittle spidery tensions.
In and around it all hovers Round's sinuous, rich voice, charged with an edgy urgent turbulent emotional quality that borders on the abyss of nervous breakdown. The album has an autobiographical energy with a rough and raw sound that is extremely unique, leaving many music journalists speechless when trying to find a comparison.
Her vocal and lyrical theatrics are distinctive yet versatile. "I've always been influenced by sentiment rather than style, so I think I have taken a lot from Charles Bukowski, Dorothy Parker, Tom Waits and Bjork. The way they articulate ideas and emotions is more important then their respective styles." Carina Round.
To celebrate this re-release, The First Blood Mystery re-issue is being released ona very limited edition vinyl with additional re-recorded alternative versions of Waves, Ribbons, and Lightbulb Song.

"This is an artist ever on the verge of pop-chart indie rock, and ever willing to peel away with a daring move like this one. And that's Tigermending's most compelling asset. The vibrant and varied arrangements are plenty approachable.” Paste
"Tigermending flexes multiple genres, including pop, blues, and punk while remaining firmly rooted in rock.” Flaunt
Carina Round has carved a singular path in music with her inimitable voice and stirringly varied compositions. Her uncompromising vision and thrilling versatility has garnered an immensely passionate fan base including a myriad of highly regarded musicians. Her fourth full-length,Tigermending comes from a painting by Amy Cutler where three women sit in a field dutifully stitching the bellies of a heap of helpless tigers.
Carina recounts, “The first time I saw the painting I stared at it for a long time not understanding why. The absurd image absorbed me. There was an innocent simplicity to it. The gentle putting back together of something most ferocious and wild mysteriously damaged to the point of submission.” Tigermending is produced with Grammy nominated writer Dan Burns, Carina collaborated with several notable artists including the legendary Dave Stewart, Brian Eno, and Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan.
Hailing from England, (but currently residing in LA) Carina had an innate determination and passion for music from an early age, which led her to record and self-release her first two albums, First Blood Mystery and The Disconnection. The former shaped by erratic yet engaging sounds drawing from her love of legends Patti Smith, Tom Waits and Jeff Buckley. The latter took those influences into much more powerful and personal realms.
These two albums led to her being signed by Interscope Records, who re-released The Disconnection album in 2004. This brought Carina US bound to LA where she recorded her bewitching and seductive album Slow Motion Addict with acclaimed producer, Glen Ballard.
A couple of years later, after parting ways with Interscope, Carina toured with Annie Lennox and self-released her ethereal and nakedly confessional EP, Things You Should Know. Her new songs were featured in films & TV shows and a number of radio stations, including KCRW, championed her music. Carina became a touring member of Puscifer, Tool’s Maynard James Keenan’s band and worked on their latest album Conditions of My Parole.
