Adagio 830

You might have previously chanced upon Artefact if you've got your ear to the ground of the fertile, exciting DIY punk circuit in the UK. Equally, they might be brand new to you, but there's no shame in that game. Release-wise, the four-piece have gone straight from a demo to a debut LP - a step-up that, Votive Offering', the long player in question, justifies in a half-hour blaze of elegant, alluring gothic punk grandeur. (Noel Gardner).Visit product page →
Artefact assembled in the Welsh capital, Cardiff, around late 2014 and debuted in early 2015 with a seven-song demo cassette. Featuring Hannah Saunders on vocals, Matthew Green on guitar, Jon Mohajer on bass and Danny Parsons on drums, members'musical CVs span indiepop (Joanna Gruesome), post-hardcore (Facel Vega), emo (Plaids), garage punk (Twisted) and slowcore (Mars To Stay).
This collective experience has certainly informed Artefact, in terms of how they operate and conduct themselves, but it should equally be seen as a clean break, and a chance to indulge their tastes for postpunk, goth, deathrock and the darker side of the tracks in general.
Saunders - the only one of the quartet to be playing in a band for the first time - is a great and mercurial presence at the microphone, ramping up the drama and emotion running through Votive Offering'. Her lyrics are suitably, poetically intriguing, heavy with alliteration and wordplay and spiked with literary and historical references. They meet their perfect match across these ten songs: rolling rhythms built from tom-heavy drums and punchy basslines, waves of ear-ringing chorus-pedal guitar, an ability to switch tempos from a brisk clip to a funereally slow march.
Votive Offering'is boosted by a recording (at North Wales'Foel Studios) which gives each sonic element the spotlight it deserves, while retaining Artefact's serrated edge, and mastering by prolific punk platter polisher, Daniel Husayn of North London Bomb Factory. The striking sleeve art comes from inside the mind of Scott Young, an American artist who has also fashioned covers for bands including Gag and Strutter. And it's being released by German punk label Adagio830 (Diät, Dark Blue, Ranx/Xerox, Rat Columns) as a result of label owner Robert Schulze stumbling on an Artefact live set while on tour, and falling in love.
Anyone whose tastes include foundation stones of goth such as Siouxsie & The Banshees or Bauhaus; The Mob, Part 1 and other names from the gloomier end of 1980s anarcho punk; or contemporary burners of the flame like Belgrado, Arctic Flowers or Anasazi - ¦ Artefact have made an album for you to fall in love with too. Musically The Black Heart Rebellion have evolved into a tribalistic beast. Guitars lower in the mix, drums and additional percussive elements compliment Pieter Uyttenhove's impassioned vocals.
Opener Avraham'demonstrates this beautifully. Chimes, bells, cello and percussion blending until Uyttenhove's breathless vocals begin. Then the feeling of being chased through the woods by an axe-murderer takes over.
Something about TBHR reminds me of the much missed The God Machine, but more in the grandiose delivery rather than a direct musical comparision perhaps. There is also a shared vibe with fellow Belgian titans Amenra but without their crushing heaviness.
Indeed the friendship between them extends to a collaborative sharing of artistic and musical philosophies and mutual appreciation.

Sold outPitchfork (8.1) - "The Brattleboro, Vt., duo of Sarah Smith and Zach Phillips released several alien-sounding pop records as Blanche Blanche Blanche last year, of them the great and bizarre Wink With Both Eyes via Night People.Visit product page →
Now they've got a new 7" single, "Scam" b/w "Press Dumps" (video here), out via Berlin's Adagio 830. The A-side treads further into the esoteric reaches of their surreal language, recorded to four-track cassette with all instruments triple-tracked.
It's completely devoid of the skeletal keyboards that comprised much of Wink's foundation, instead pairing an anxious, drowned drum march from Phillips with Smith's monotone mantras.
It's guest-guitarist Graham Brooks, though, whose haunted, blown-out solos make the track most peculiar and cinematic-- no doubt emphasized by his closing bit of spoken word, "The best thing about music is all the stuff you can buy."

The third album from Scottish post-hardcore trio Carson Wells, out 15 June 2018 via Barely Regal Records and Black Lake Records in the UK, as well as European labels Adagio830 and Discos Finu, in Berlin and Madrid respectively. It will be available on 12' vinyl and as a digital download. All artwork was created by Andy Hemming.Visit product page →
From their roots in mathy screamo, to their intricate and brooding sophomore LP, Tread A Northern Path, Carson Wells has evolved considerably during their near decade as a band. No Relic continues to push their music in new directions, as arguably their most surprising release to date. At 6-songs, certain authorities might consider it too short for the long-play'tag, yet, at thirty minutes it outruns their debut album, the nine track Wonderkid'.
The sprawling compositions on No Relic'stand as a testament to the expanded horizons of the trio's songwriting - switching effortlessly from blistering, scrappy sections that hark back to the band's early output, to expansive, hypnotic passages.credits

Repeater Records and Adagio830 Records are proud to announce that they are jointly releasing City Of Caterpillar's highly sought after song 'Driving Spain Up A Wall' as a 12' EP. This 11 minute epic was never properly recorded during the band's initial existence and only a few live recordings of the song from 2002 - 2003 have existed up until now.
'Driving Spain Up A Wall' has been a long awaited missing piece of the band's discography, but was recently recorded in their hometown of Richmond, VA and was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Studio. The B-Side of the 12' also includes the track 'As The Curtains Dim (little white lie)', which was originally recorded during the same sessions as City Of Caterpillar's self titled LP in 2002, but has never been released on vinyl.
Both songs on this 12' brilliantly capture the restrained and explosive intensity that City Of Caterpillar helped to define as a sound in the early 00's, merging the styles of post-rock and shoegaze with punk and hardcore.
This 12' will be out this summer to coincide with City Of Caterpillar's first European tour and more U.S. shows in the Fall of 2017. The 12' will be released in the U.S. by Repeater Records and in Europe via Adagio830 Records.

Sold outWell, Cold Leather sound like neither. In fact, they probably sound as if no punk band had existed from '74 on. They play those tasty classic rock type riffs with a groovy rhythm section and have the same sexy teenage urgency that you feel when you listen to The Runaways.Visit product page →
It's like they were punks before there was punk - and I don't mean power-pop. I'm thinking about that period of time when rock was dangerous and sexual and it wasn't necessary to differentiate it from all the commercial bands'bullshit.
And believe me, if Cold Leather have one fault, is that the short duration of their single and demo leaves us wanting more. For a whole lot more." (cvlt nation /HUGO FILIPE LOPES)

Sold outDark Blue follow up their debut LP, Pure Reality'(Jade Tree), with Start Of The World'(/ADAGIO830/ 12XU) - a soundtrack of a decaying United States. Each song drips with the realities of atrocities happening all around us. John Sharkey III (Vocals, Guitar) pushes Dark Blue far beyond the post-punk meets oi sound they perfected on their earlier releases, and adds elements of brit-pop and shoegaze.Visit product page →
Recorded by Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, Nothing), Start Of The World'is a pop album that makes no apologies. Boot stomping opener 'Union of Buffoons,' sets the political tone for this album with an anthem for workers' rights. Sharkey's biting lyrics: "You can't fight this, you can't win - ¦screw you once, they'll screw you twice," is a reference to human expendability in the face of deregulation and the stagnancy of labor rights. "Never Wanted to Hurt You" is a pop song in the highest order with guts and an undeniable chorus that would make Noel Gallagher jealous even at his most jaded. The 50's doo-woop and surf rock sound of "Bombs on the Beach" initially feels like a left turn for the band, evoking a playful innocence against a sunny backdrop.
But the lyrics prove this is truly a Dark Blue song, tearing through any cheerfulness as jarring and abrupt as words can be to describe the reality of dropping missiles on a beach of unsuspecting Palestinian children. Sharkey's voice is heavy with the despair of survivor's guilt: 'Now I'm holding my baby's hand, as he lies bleeding to death in the sand." This is another pointed song full of sentiment as much as it is an impassioned call for accountability for the crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
While this album shows off new and varying degrees of Sharkey's vocal intensity, Andrew Mackie Nelson (Bass, Ceremony) and Michael Sneeriger (Drums, Strand of Oaks) shine, guiding the songs in ways other releases haven't shown before. Tracks such as "Be Gone Everyone" and "Western Front" underscore just how comfortable the band has gotten.
Start Of The World'is the kind of record that Dark Blue has always promised: a collection of smart, fully realized songs that tell stories. With the world falling apart around us, Dark Blue continues to give voice to neglected perspectives, many unnerving but all necessary to hear. We need a defiant record like this to remind us that just as there was start to all of this destruction, there can also be an end. - Sean Gray

Sold outThe long awaited debut full length has finally arrived. And the wait was well worth it. Diät have worked, worked and reworked these 8 songs until they were perfect. Who is this band you ask?Visit product page →
Let us introduce you: "Brought together by a shared enthusiasm for bleak UK punk and a history of playing in hardcore bands, Berlin based Diät have created a sound that they have described, perhaps not entirely seriously, as tough new wave'.
Fans of Crisis, Killing Joke and The Mob (UK) should be pleased by the band's unlikely synthesis of depressive drift and cranked, accelerated energy. Positive Energy'was recorded last Winter while huddled in a practice space overlooking the industrial landscape of frozen East Berlin, the album finds Diät reining in the threads of malignant enthusiasm still peppered throughout their earlier recordings (both 7"s previously released on this fine imprint) to focus on the cynicism and dejectedness that binds them as a band. Intending to create an album that showcases each song individually and plays out like a mixtape, Diät have boldly created a sound all their own - the sound of checking your account balance to see if you've been paid yet - ¦but you haven't."

Sold outWhy don't you do yourself a favor and get this through your moldy rind ASAP: Future Punx are punk.Visit product page →
Punker than the Tragedy tattoo you got in 2006 and try to forget about. Punker than your "transgressive" Soundcloud-noise-wankery and the fascist imagery you childishly borrowed for the logo. Punker than your dangly earring and your stupid switchblade that you will literally never use, and yes dear reader, punker than YOU.
The members of Future Punx have all taken the traditional punk trajectory; playing in crust, garage, weird-punk, hardcore punk bands, and by virtue of thinking for themselves becoming what they were always meant to be: FUTURE PUNX.
For far too long the Punx have been a well-kept New York secret. The band, formed in the aftermath of FERGUS & GERONIMO, have become a well-oiled live machine over the last three years. Near-constant gigging at New York institutions like Baby's Alright, Palisades and Silent Barn have found them fiercer than ever, evidenced in 'This Is Post-Wave', their first full length LP.
On the self-produced album, Future Punx solidify their vision of a genreless approach to musical creation, finding a focused, diverse and open-hearted approach to exploring the astral planes of punk. Both sonically and conceptually, 'This Is Post-Wave' takes the group to new places. It shouldn't be surprising that the title reads like that of a manifesto, as the opening, titular track is just that. Telling both the bands' cosmic origin-story and ideological agenda, the song ends with an exciting refrain: 'Liberate at any rate, don't hesitate, THIS IS POST-WAVE'

"Chime Grove" is their vinyl debut, but compared with their previous bands Naked Lights go into a new musical direction.Visit product page →
The record features tracks from their last years cassette on Sanity Muffin as well as some new additions. Naked Lights create music with the help of an open-minded experimental approach. Each of the five members plays at least three instruments over the course of the album. The range of instruments includes synthesizers, percussion, bass, guitar, drums, drum-computer, horns, chimes and violin.
This opens possibilities for a great variety of textures and clang colours. Each of the fourteen tracks is focused on an interplay between different instruments. The only constant is their warm, bright and spacy sound. The mesmerzing tunes are rather short for this type of music. Some of them are underlayed with subtle vocal harmonies. Naked Light's music is first of all rooted in the sound of 70s German electronic music.
The rythmic repetitive drum-beats show simularities to Neu! and the synth-sounds are heavily influenced by Cluster, Harmonia and Conrad Schnitzler's solo work. The powerful basslines are yet another unmistakable element of Naked Light's tunes. "Chime Grove" is really an impressive modern interpretation of krautrock."
