Black Moth rose from the Leeds underground scene at the end of the last decade, indulging their love for both Sabbath sulphur and Stooges squalor.

Their debut 'The Killing Jar', which was released in 2012, was hailed by many as 'one of the best debut album's you'll hear all year' - it even made it onto Kerrang's top 50 albums of the year. Now with an expanded (guitar) lineup to expand the riffage comes the follow up, 'Condemned To Hope.'

Their long awaited second album, produced like their first by Jim Sclavunos (Grinderman, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, The Cramps) takes their kaleidoscopic heaviosity and sepulchral style to a whole new plateau of riff-driven dementia. A turbulent brew with just as much 60s garage rock bite, head-spinning psychedelia and '1991-The-Year-That-Punk-Broke' grit to offer as Vinum Sabbathi riffage. 'Condemned To Hope' is where Black Moth truly render themselves a glimmering presence in the firmament of 21st century rock. A band just as comfortable sharing the Temples festival bill with the likes of Electric Wizard and Neurosis as they are alongside Nick Cave, Iggy Pop and Deborah Harry on the forthcoming Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions album 'Axels And Sockets'.

As with all NHS releases the album package will be something very special, with some very special cover art.
The one and only Roger Dean has created a brand new painting to adorn the cover of the album. Designer, architect and artist, his iconic work for Yes, Uriah Heep, Budgie, countless Vertigo sleeves and much more, has almost come to define 70’s sleeve art. It’s the Roger Dean you know and love, yet as you’ve never seen him before.

New Heavy Sounds gives you the self titled debut album from London Doom/Sludge monsters Limb. Limb have been a band to catch by those in the know on the Doom/Sludge scene since their formation in 2011.

The underground metal label 'Witch Hunter Records' was hooked enough to release the band's early demos, as well as a recent split EP with fellow sludge merchants Gurt, on which Limb cover and truly demolish Queen's 'Son and Daughter'.

They are also a crushing live outfit, that have shared stages around the country with bands like Conan, Witchsorrow and label-mates Black Moth and Throne. Championed by Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and the rest, 'Gift Of The Sun', Limb's first release for NHS, even made onto BBC radio and that perhaps highlights Limb's singular vision.

Their sound is shot through with an alternative twist on the Doom/Sludge theme. The record’s dynamics and approach are akin to Slint in many ways, though post rock it most certainly isn't. It's deliberately stripped-down. Stark, bleak and visceral. As dark and menacing as Joy Division 'de-tuned', though post-punk it most certainly isn't.

There are moments of sleazy psychedelics, blasts of cosmic rock and brushes with hardcore. This is one heavy record. For this release we have some very special cover art, created by the super talented (and super hot) Richey Beckett, fresh from his work with Metallica and Mastodon.

It's pretty special: intricately detailed and darkly beautiful. The super deluxe vinyl edition will come in a gatefold sleeve, with a heavyweight 180g, green and black vinyl record, plus an insert of the cover art and a free download of the whole album.

Vinyl is limited to just 300 copies.

    Black Moth: Tumbleweave
Since the release of their universally acclaimed debut, The Killing Jar, the Moth's brand of stoner rock has been picking up fans all over the place and all over the world it seems. This is the very first taster of the follow up. Once again at the production helm is uber Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos, and Tumbleweave is a monster slice of huge riffage with hooks and groove, all topped off by the vulpine vocals of Harriet Bevan. Believe us when we say that the new album is a killer.

    Baby In Vain: Sweetheart Dreams
These three girls from Denmark may be all under 20, but boy are they able to create a monstrous noise. We saw them play a blistering set at The Reeperbahn Festival when Antlered Man were in Hamburg for the event. Sweetheart Dreams takes the quiet/loud Grunge template and makes it quieter and louder and heavier, top that off with some sinuous dual vocals and you have a piece of heavy music that belies their years. Watch out for them when they come to Blighty for The Great Escape Festival.

    Limb: Plague Doctor
You may have heard this track as part of the recent Witch Hunter split single with fellow London sludgers Gurt. But you won't have heard it quite like this. Remixed to maximum sludge levels it's heavier than ever. Their debut long player on NHS will be out the week before this and this track is not on it.

    Throne: Ascender
This London trio have been much talked about for a while since their 7" release on NHS brought them to everyone's attention. So here's an exclusive, a brand new track full of their trademark visceral doom riffage, heavy groove and wonderfully melancholic and melodic vocals. This lot manage to make doom metal catchy as hell. Produced by wunderkind on the block Chris Fielding.

    Antlered Man: Alright Celebrate
This band are ferocious.. there's no two ways about it. Heavy and uncompromising as only they can be. Their mix of prog, hardcore and metal is truly unique, just check out their new album 'This Devil Is Them'. Then go check 'em out live.. they kick serious ass. This track is a new song not included on their album but also recorded with And So I Watch You From Afar producer Rocky O’Reilly.

    Monolithian: Sea Of Trees
Another bunch of young metalheads that are surely but steadily getting a name for themselves. This bass and drums duo from Cornwall create a wall of sound that most bands with more members can only aspire to. Heavier than Satan's gonads, they take in doom, sludge, crust, hardcore and twist it into something that is totally and crushingly their own.

    Transmaniacon: Please Kill Me
These guys have a pretty uncompromising concept album in the can for NHS. Inspired by a love for 70's hard rock, Transmaniacon take the weighty Hammond organ fuelled grooves of Mountain and Bloodrock into the 21st century. This track will not be on the album, and is a proggy take on an Alice Cooper/Alex Harvey style rock out.

Cut Yourself In Half: Little Misadventure
The Bradford riff machine as we like to call them. Noise, psychedelics tunes...they got 'em. Their debut album for NHS showed that this lot can truly pull riff laden hooks out of the bag like falling of a log. The album drew (welcome) QOTSA comparisons,  and this is a track from their debut, remixed and stoked up especially for this release.

    Vodun: Possession
Another London band starting to make some serious noise amongst those in the know. A raw and powerfull slice of voodoo fuelled turbo-metal riffage, Vodun are lucky to have at their disposal an awesome drummer, amazing guitarist and a truly brilliant  vocalist in Chantal Brown – a new kind of power-trio! They rock like no one else and are also a mesmerizing live experience. This is another exclusive new track for this release and their first since their mini album ‘Eat Up The Sun’.

Mars Red Sky: Clean White Hands
The Psychomagik club brought these French space-rockers to our attention, and then the completely ‘on-the money’ Desertfest people brought them over to blow us away at last March’s event. Brooding fuzz-bass grooves, psyched out and heavy guitar licks of the Kyuss variety and super memorable vocal lines on this trademark slab of acid-doom. A new album and a UK tour this year we are told!

Black Moth are four super talented individuals, Harriet Bevan - vocals, Jim Swainston - guitar, Dave Vachon - bass, and Dom McCready, battering the crap out of his drums. Formed 2 years ago out of the ashes of Leeds garage rockers The Bacchae, the band were seduced by the brutal and hypnotic lure of the riff, to emerge translucent skinned and bleary eyed from their cocoon as the ferocious kick-ass heavy rock outfit that is Black Moth.

Taking a powerful chunk of influence from proto-punk acts such as Iggy and the Stooges, Motorhead and early Alice Cooper as well as a sliver of 90s grunge and stoner rock and a big dose of doom, Black Moth draw out the darker elements and combine them with the heaving riffs of heavy metal giants, Pentagram and Black Sabbath, with "hooks so sharp you could hang a corpse on them". They also look to more current acts such as the Melvins, Sleep and Electric Wizard for inspiration, though singer, Harriet Bevan, still maintains a vocal style that evokes the haunting psychedelia of Grace Slick and psych-Satanist, Jinx Dawson from Coven: the woman responsible for the "sign of the horns" in rock'n'roll.

They're also a big part of the burgeoning Leeds heavy rock scene alongside Pulled Apart By Horses, Kong, Hawk Eyes and Gentlemen's Pistols, it looks like it's about to break. Songs that the band have honed and crafted in the mighty maelstrom that is the Leeds heavy rock scene, have been rippin’ ‘em up live not only in Yorkshire but everywhere they’ve played.

Now all they needed was to be brought to vivid screaming life on record. Enter Mr Jim Sclavunos, the multi talented Grinderman and Bad Seed, not to mention the superbaaad connoisseur of the mixing console, fresh from producing the storming second Jim Jones Revue album. One of their shows was all it took.

”Black Moth reminds me of my misspent youth” he said. And judging by the all out assault that he’s crafted with the Moth, he must have been a very bad boy indeed. The Killing Jar is their debut from New Heavy Sounds and it rocks like a bastard.
