Closer To God', as with all TVP albums, is mightily personal. Dan Treacy provides the antidote to the opening of the ill-fated Disneyland Paris and the first McDonald's in China - it's a white knuckle ride through his innermost hopes and fears with off stage giggling, half heard dialogue and feedback that sounds like an opera is expiring in an adjoining L-shaped room.Visit product page →

Rocket Recordings
White Hills / GNOD 'Aquarian Downer' Vinyl LP - Deep Space Swirl Coloured
£20.49
Aquarian Downer'is a five track collaboration with New York's purveyor of pummelling Post-Motorik Fuzz White Hills'and Manchester's Psychedelic-Punk human anatomy assault GNOD'. Initially released as a limited tour CDR in 2008, Rocket Recordings are delighted to announce that for Record Store Day 2018, it will be available for the first time on deep space'blue swirl vinyl.Visit product page →
In 2007, GNOD booked WHITE HILLS to play at one of their Attention All Shipping'nights in Manchester. After the gig they spoke about doing a collaboration together. As their inevitably synchronous desire to create music around the outer limits prevailed, the bands were drawn onto the same trajectory, their first meeting of minds.
Over the years the two bands have gone on to build a formidable reputation for releasing many outstanding records, including their second collaboration after Aquarian Downer; the stunning GNOD Drop-out with White Hills II'released on Rocket Recordings back in 2010. Both bands'music have consistently pushed at the boundaries of what psychedelic music is. Aquarian Downer is no exception, feasibly this is the point that they both crossed into the Event Horizon of their prismatic paths.
An album submerged in minimally restrained serene chilling drones, tailed by the pulses of GNOD's heads-down astral power, Dave W (White Hills) has masterfully conjured an album who's boundary passes events that cannot ever be observed. You think you've found perception's doors.... they open to a lie, but these two bands'output go some way to help guide you through the narrow chinks of refuge.

Double Date is an independent British horror film that was released to great applause in 2017. The film was written and stared Danny Morgan and was the debut movie directed by Benjamin Barfoot.Visit product page →
Ben was also responsible for creating the video of Teeth of The Sea's Responder, plus several great shorts films including FIST which featured music from Rocket's back catalogue.
Ben approached Goat in 2016 asking them if they would be interested in appearing in the film he was making as he had a club scene where he wanted to feature a band playing live. And when him and Danny were coming up with the idea for the movie they had Goat's World Music'album on repeat and it was decided it was bands infectious tribal grooves that he wanted in the scene.
During filming of Goat's scene Ben and the band bonded and he invited Goat to score the whole film, so their unique DNA would be running throughout the whole picture.
The band liked the idea and decided to take the challenge on. And we at Rocket are very excited to be able to release the complete score Goat created for the film on a special ltd edition pool of blood'coloured vinyl 10' LP especially for Record Store Day 2018.
The album contains all the original music Goat created to soundtrack the film plus the music they made for the trailer. The score also contains a different version of Goat's live anthem Run To Your Mama'that was especially created for the film.
The film was released to great reviews and has gone on to win a couple of awards including the Fright Fest Rising Star Award for its writer/actor Danny Morgan.

First 'Scratchy Singles Club' release on limited edition pink vinyl for Record Store Day
'I like Taylor Swift too and I don't care what you think.. bit of an instant classic' John Kennedy, Radio X
'A chunk of pop-rock with a dash of humour.. Reminds me of Fountains of Wayne" Gary Crowley, BBC London'A golden voice' - Consequence Of Sound
I Like Taylor Swift is a sub-3-minute powerpop rock'n'roll anthem channelling the licks of Fountains Of Wayne and Weezer which tells of Coach Hop brainchild Charlie Laurence's fondness'for the Country Queen Pop Music Maven, Taylor Swift, using a tongue-in-cheek humour that's more disarming than it is distracting.
On the surface, I LikeTaylor Swift is a lovesong to the titular popstar but upon closer inspection, is an observation on the state of the modern music industry, 'In the song I admit I haven't really listened to much of her music but I'm inundated with images and stories about her' says Charlie. Throughout the song it verges on an admission that it's not cool to like Taylor Swift but in his trademark style, Charlie doesn't care what anyone else thinks, as he sings 'I like Taylor Swift and I don't care who knows it, it's not a guilty pleasure, it's just a normal pleasure.'The accompanying video is a state of the art'animated affair using techniques that are an industry first, produced by Charlie's brother, and BBC Creative's Head of Design Lawrence Honderick and Sam Humphries.
The release's B-side; Everything's Fine is a subversive and evocative social commentary that expresses Charlie's acerbic wit and lookon life with the lyric: 'They say every cloud has a silver lining but I'm not a believer. I'm not gonna be bitter about it, but I don't have to be happy about it either. Everything's fine, and nothing's gonna be alright.'

In September of 2017 the Austin-based instrumental band Balmorhea released Clear Language, an album which prompted NPR's Bob Boilen to say 'I'm madly in love with this album - ¦it's one these ambient records and beautiful records that I've just listened to over and over again.'Visit product page →
To create Clear Language, the duo returned to their roots, working simply and with restraint, letting intuition guide them as they molded the 10 elegant, spacious gestures that comprise the album.
Now, just a few months later the duo returns with the CHIME / SHONE 7' vinyl for Record Store Day 2018.
Recorded during the Clear Language sessions, the two tracks 'Chime' and 'Shone' flow gracefully with a clear-eyed sense of reflection, as these two old friends transmit unfettered meaning through simple sonic gestures that resonate with the cosmos as much as they echo the pulse of a human heart.
In a culture dominated by the loudest, ostentatious voices, Lowe and Muller continue to prove the power and importance of restraint and minimalism.

Where to start with Alternative TV? Most know that Mark Perry, founder of Sniffin'Glue fanzine, formed the group either due to or as a response to punk in 1977.Visit product page →
Since the debut How Much Longer'7' released that very same year, however, Mark has remained the sole surviving original member and driving force. Not one to stand still, he has taken the group through a succession of lineup changes embarking on a wide spectrum of styles since then; the only truly unifying factor amounting to a sensibility that never once strayed from its original status.
It is through this justifiably much vaunted approach that Alternative TV have been responsible for around fifteen albums since their formation, with the last one, Opposing Forces, from 2015 on Public Domain Records, proving to be their strongest thus far with its marrying of igneous rock, idiosyncratic touches, barbed commentary and occasionally seething undercurrents of dark psychedelic noise.
Dark Places', the newest e.p., expands the mantle set by Opposing Forces, introducing four songs cascading between full-on rock to a kind of abstract minimalist electronics approach perfectly in keeping with Alternative TV's occasional traverses to the furthest reaches.
Each track, pinned into place by Dave Morgan and Clive Giblin, arrives with its own distinctive approach, enhanced further by the legendary Vic Godard's guest appearance on guitar on Like a Tomb', once more encapsulating a vision as perfectly widescreen as it is bifurcated.
