On Dedekind Cut’s The Expanding Domain, his fascination with Ambient becomes a blank slate upon which the prolific producer and his collaborators serve shimmering Trance-derived melodies, murky Industrial grooves and all-consuming Harsh Noise attacks. The five tracks however do not aim at offering an esoteric escape from reality but rather face it head on with blistering feedback.
The Expanding Domain was created in transit between New York, Seoul and Berlin and recorded between the fall of 2016 and the winter of 2017. Over 23 minutes, the EP effortlessly shifts from densely layered textures to subtle piano notes and hard-hammering beats, seemingly mirroring the drastic changes of the times in which they were conceived.
With the help of Dirch Heather (modular synths), Elysia Crampton (piano), Mica Levi (dubbed piano) and Jesse Osborne-Lanthier (synths) as well as Dominick Fernow alias Prurient and Death Grips drummer Zach Hill on percussion, Fred Welton Warmsley III reminds us that now is not the time to give up.
Despite everything, The Expanding Domain firmly positions itself within this world. Having left behind a career as Joey Bada$$’s producer and his previous moniker Lee Bannon to pursue a more experimental musical approach, Warmsley’s The Expanding Domain is more than just one release in the fast-growing Dedekind Cut discography: It’s a conceptual entity that draws on creative collaboration and aims at gathering unique artists under a single musical vision.
Amidst the cacophony, a distinctive voice can be heard. The Expanding Domain might sound bleak and unforgiving at first, but also communicates a hope as well as a desire to resist. After all, there is a reason that this record was created as a loop.

Sourced from analogue material provided by the artist widely known for his output under the Tactile moniker for a collaboration that never came to fruition, the six tracks are an exercise in minimalism and subtlety singular even in Pavlov's impressive back catalogue.
On COH plays EVERALL, Pavlov focuses on swirling arpeggios whose colourfulness is mirrored in the Ruth Stofer's artwork for the limited picture disk release.
From the joyful, handclap-driven »2016« to the hectic gabber derivate »OVERBEAT«, the Russian producer explores a minimalistic yet organic palette of synthesizer sounds that stylistically reach from the hymnic poise of »WAVETRAP« to the playful and warm vibes of »ALONE (MINIMAL SELFIE)«.
While it might sound almost pointillistic on first listen, COH plays EVERALL unfolds its multitude of layers slowly over time. With a feature of Coil's John Balance on the CD-only bonus track »Hunger Remix«, Pavlov adds yet another facet to this evocative marriage of sonic purity and emotional rawness.
Over a throbbing rhythm, the late poet's dry intonation serves as an eerie coda to this tender tribute to lost friends. As a dialogue between this world and the other, CoH's digital manipulation and Everall's analogue source material as well as stark minimalism and tonal richness, COH plays EVERALL captures two kindred spirits bidding each other farewell.

Continuing a trilogy that began with 2018’s ‘Lines’, Distant Animals new work ‘Weaves’ is the artists second album for Hallow Ground, and marks a movement away from the formers ‘pure’ drone to a more rhythmic form of timbral composition.
Inspired by the writing of anthropologist Tim Ingold, the work is orientated by a single atonal rhythmic sequence transposed across several voices, blending crashing bells, strums, and blocks with waves of swelling granular synthesis, until eventually descending into a wash of cavernous field-recordings.
Over its 33 minute length, the album invokes avant-garde compositional strategies to create an emergent and increasingly hostile sound-world that reflects the works underlying concept. As a researcher and academic exploring the ‘social-function’ of art-making, Distant Animals music posits that creativity, rather than being the domain of ’specialist ‘artists’, is a facet of everyday life. As such, ‘Weaves’, and the score upon which it is based, promotes a method of semi-aleatoric composition in which each moment recontextualises those that precede it, affording radically different interpretations of its materials as it progresses, though rarely straying from the same fundamental sound world. Art, as with life, is comprised of an endless stream of minute creative decisions that together form the basis of human experience.Completing the ‘A Process of a Line-making’ trilogy, the album is accompanied by a third instalment, ‘Threads’. Available exclusively as a limited run cassette, ‘Threads’ further incorporates the social into the compositional narrative.
‘Threads’ concludes its trilogy in a playful, yet haunting fashion that seeks to sonify the socio-political research upon which it is based.
Like ‘Lines’ and ‘Weaves’, it is based upon the modular synthesiser, but here frames it with field-recordings, harmonium, feedback, and percussion, each voice reflecting different aspects of modern communal life. This album is the follow up to Electric Sewer Age's debut Moon's Milk In Finale Phase which featured also late Peter Christopherson of COIL.
Danny Hyde works since the early 80ies as a sound-engineer, producer and re-mixer. He contributed many unique sounds to Coil's legacy and produced their legendary albums Horse Rotovator and Love's Secret Domain. Coil lovers now that Hyde was a kind of a secret member for this group.
So it doesn't suprise that this record sounds like a kind of a lost Coil album. Redocine (Death Of The Corpuscle) is a previous unreleased and new track which doesn't appear on the CD version. It was specially arranged for the vinyl version of this album.

Haunted by the pressing question, »What if?«, the five compositions on »Gloryland« aim to create, in the words of the artist, Ros Knopov, himself, »a hyper-visual audio landscape of a world somebody listening can fall into and drown in.
« The term »nostalgia« originally referred to the longing for a place. The nostalgia that informs »Gloryland« is PLYXY's longing for his cultural-geographic roots while feeling adrift in an alien environment. Born in Dnepropetrovsk, then the rocket-making capital of the USSR, Knopov immigrated to New York City as a child in 1989.
In »Gloryland,« he dives deep into his uneasy childhood memories and their warped reflections. PLYXY marks the unreliability of his recollections by making it heard - the anthemic qualities of the five pieces are coated in an opaque layer of dream-like textures.
From the elegiac opener, »It Will Be Beautiful,«to the blaring rhythmic noise of »March of Youth,« the greyscale picture painted by »Gloryland« becomes more and more refined below the surface. PLYXY's search for a past is, however, less a sentimental journey, and more a radical confrontation with the politics of memory and the materials that serve as mnemonic devices.
»Gloryland« draws on field recordings from Knopov's adopted hometown New York and Soviet films as well as performances from his collection of analog and digital keyboards, with the results filtered and re-textured through the producer's modular synthesizer setup acting as the final editorial layer in the creative process.
The result is lush and warm throughout, but also demure and distant. While »Gloryland« might thus easily be pigeonholed as a hauntological record, it is one only in the term's most radical sense. After all, any »what if?« might turn into a »Why not?«
