Some wondered how the songwriting team of Philip Best and Sarah Froelich would fare after the leaving their London home to take up residency in the United States.
Well, here's the answer. Recorded in San Francisco, CE deliver 'Airless Space,' a state-of-the-union address that does for our American cousins what the band's earlier 'Estuary English' album did for a British audience poised upon the coming madness of Brexit.
Unusually for CE, 'Airless Space' clocks in at 60 minutes, a hexed induction for a country labouring under a presidency, that like Brexit itself, few saw coming or contemplated having to endure.
Soundwise, CE have maybe mellowed the tone a touch, allowing their electronics to stretch out and breathe, whereas the frenzied and anxious vocals of Best and Froelich remain as snatched and breathless as ever.
Stunningly produced by Russell Haswell and gorgeously mastered by award-winning cutting engineer Matt Colton, 'Airless Space' by Consumer Electronics is their most complete and rounded statement yet.

The Vacant Lots are an American psych-electronic duo comprised of Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen. The key element of The Vacant Lots'minimalist, primitive rock and roll songs is their boundless energy, which tears up the psych template with a genuine punk spirit.
The notion of duality is also a recurring theme in the band's minimal means maximum effect aesthetic, whether in their lyrics or fiercely monochromatic artwork.
The group has collaborated with underground music legends including; Sonic Boom (who mixed their debut album Departure), Alan Vega of Suicide (who's vocals are featured on the band's second album Endless Night & who they've done a split 10'with) and Anton Newcombe who has recorded and produced 2 EPs at his Cobra Studio in Berlin with the band.

Bentley Rhythm Ace formed in Birmingham in 1996 when ex Pop Will Eat Itself bassist Richard March and DJ Michael Stokes discovered a shared love of obscure, oddball and eccentric tunes.
Utilising lo-fi cut and paste sampling techniques combined with analogue synths and some wild turntable action their debut EP was picked up by Fatboy Slim's Brighton based Skint Records and released to widespread acclaim.
The BRA live show added Fuzz Townshend on drums and James Atkin (ex EMF vocalist) on keyboards and the latter years of the 90s saw BRA firmly established as festival favourites with appearances at Glastonbury, Reading, V, T in the Park, Montreux Jazz and Fuji Rock amongst many others.
Their irreverent approach mixed with big beats, thundering bass, wild synths and esoteric samples proved to be a hit with fans and critics alike. 1998 saw Bentley Rhythm Ace crowned 'Best Dance Act' in that year's NME awards.
Their eponymous debut album was given a worldwide release after the Bentleys signed to Parlophone records and the band toured extensively in the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia and USA. As well as releasing a highly regarded DJ mix album on Ministry of Sound, and releasing a second album for Parlophone (featuring vocals from Black Grape/Ruthless Rap Assassins frontman Kermit), BRA also produced well received remixes for the Beastie Boys and Supergrass as well as soundtracking several TV shows and adverts.
This "21st Birthday - Bonus Tracks Edition" of the album has been compiled by Richard March of the band and includes the original 11 track album along with 2 bonus tracks remastered and repressed to vinyl for the first time in almost two decades!
Presented in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, complete with original artwork and comprehensive sleeve notes for all thirteen tracks written for this release by Richard March.

Building on their previous two records, which positioned Limb in the thick of the UK heavy fuzz scene, the band now move beyond their sludge - doom origins to explore a cosmos of bubbling synthesizers, screaming organs, ecstatic choirs and galaxies of wild unidentified sounds alongside the heavy riffs.
Vocalist Rob Hoey says, 'We're not a band that wants to get complacent. For our third record, with the wider world around continuing to fall apart, we wanted to address big, grand themes. And to do that, we had to broaden our sonic palette.'
That's not to say that Saboteurs of the Sun jettisons any of the stomp and swagger that Limb have made their own. The grooves, the power and the chops are all there in spades - helped by a masterful production from Russ Russell (Napalm Death, At the Gates, etc.).Each of the 10 songs that make up this record is a sonic vignette, telling a story that could have sprung from the mind of sci-fi visionary Philip K Dick - tales of reckoning with a world that is incomprehensible.
Saboteurs of the Sun is heavy - ¦ of course. But it is also ambitious and thoughtful, boldly bucking the system and revealing something new with every play. But most of all, it is the sound of a band bursting free from the world that made it, unapologetic and unafraid of what it might find.

Magic Castles are a five-piece band from Minneapolis MN.
Their sound has been described as droney psychedelic pop, combining the organ drenched hazy atmospherics of mid/late 60s with sun-drenched west coast folk-rock.

Emerging in a haze of demented riff science and booze-addled abandon, Hey Colossus have carved out a notable niche for themselves in the British underground's murkier quarters. Yet for all the grit and gnarl of their output thus far, it's seemingly only been a warm-up for their latest opus, which sees their monstrous assault finely honed into an album as beguiling as it is bulldozing. In Black And Gold', their eighth album proper and first for Rocket Recordings, ushers in a new incarnation of Hey Colossus.
Marrying malevolent attack to expansive celestial splendour, In Black And Gold'marks a point whereby Hey Colossus map out a sonic trajectory that expands on their trademark ornery overload. The songs herein may be leaner and more artful than the fearsome sound by which they made their name on albums like 2008's Project: Death'and the monstrous 2013 opus Cuckoo Live Life Like Cuckoo', but they remain possessed of the wrath both Stoogian and Stygian that fuels their noiserock transgression.
Yet meanwhile, and with 2015 looming large, an evolutionary process has led to their maximalist tendencies being replaced by a sharp focus on space and restraint, not to mention a refreshing stylistic diversity, resulting in a strange aural alchemy. Here, they sound as comfortable tackling electronically-fried dub mantras like Lagos Atom'as they do the Cluster-esque lullaby of the opening Hold On'. Yet there's no shortage of primal rock action to be had on In Black And Gold'; on Sisters And Brothers'they summon up a swaggering, demented groove that sashays like a zombified Gun Club, whilst on the dramatic spaghetti-psych of the title-track a revelatory cinematic sprawl of sound sees The Bad Seeds and The 13th Floor Elevators engaged in a psychic duel in the noonday sun.
The vital and Spinal Tap-approved fine line between clever and stupid'has been a location that this London-based tinnitus machine has made fine work of dwelling on for the duration of their life thus far. Yet with In Black And Gold', in a laudable leap of faith, they've stepped beyond, and the result is both vicious and visionary. These unpretentious underworld overlords have emerged from the shadows to create an avant-garage pièce de résistance, and moreover it turns out that the sunlight suits them better than they ever realised.

Communions will be released on Tough Love Records on Monday 1st June. The self-titled EP features lead track Out of My World and is accompanied by 4 other tracks, all recorded in their hometown of Copenhagen. The EP is the second release on Tough Love Records, following the release of AA-side single So Long Sun/Love Stands Still at the end of 2014.

Teenage Waitress returns with the new album ‘Your Cuckoo’. This album is the follow up to the critically acclaimed debut Love & Chemicals.

The first Jazz Butcher record, the LP ‘In Bath of Bacon’ was released almost 40 years ago on the original Glass Records label. Plans were made for a new album on Glass Modern to celebrate this, for release in 2023, but sadly Patrick passed away last October before any real work could be done for it. This recording is all we have.
Never Give Up was re-recorded for Pat’s final LP, The Highest In The Land – it’s one of his greatest songs, maybe the greatest. His Hallelujah, if you will. The B side, Silver Street by Nikki Sudden & Dave Kusworth (Jacobites) was recorded for a forthcoming Glass Modern compilation, of various artists covering Glass artists material from the eighties.Tracklisting:

Legendary British rock & roll group The Godfathers kick-start 2017 with one almighty bang via a career best, new studio album 'A Big Bad Beautiful Noise' - to be released February 10th on the band's own Godfathers Recordings2 label through Cargo Records in the UK & Europe.
They precede the release of 'A Big Bad Beautiful Noise' (the first album to feature the newly revitalised Godfathers' line-up of founder member & frontman Peter Coyne. guitarists Steve Crittall & Mauro Venegas, drummer Tim James & bassist Darren Birch) with the single 'You Don't Love Me' on February 3rd & then celebrate by performing extensive tours, concerts & festivals worldwide to promote it. 'A Big Bad Beautiful Noise' represents an exciting new chapter for the London band, but The Godfathers have had a long & illustrious career.
They were formed in 1985 by brothers Peter Coyne (vocals) & Chris Coyne (bass/vocals) from the ashes of their previous band The Sid Presley Experience. The Godfathers toured extensively & quickly earned a serious reputation for their electrifying brand of primal rock & roll & their incendiary live shows around the world. Forming a recording partnership with famed producer Vic Maile they cargogodreleased 4 critically acclaimed, smash hit independent singles on their own Corporate Image label (Lonely Man', This Damn Nation', I Want Everything'& Love Is Dead') which alongside a brutal cover of Lennon's Cold Turkey'were compiled into their seminal debut album release Hit By Hit'in '86 & signed a worldwide deal with Sony/Epic records in 87.The Godfathers unleashed the storming rocker Birth School Work Death'as a single in '87 & scored a US Billboard top 40 hit after massive college radio airplay & heavy MTV rotation.
Then the classic Birth School Work Death'album was released in '88 (includes the 'hit' anthem title track, & singles Cause I Said So'& a re-recorded Love Is Dead') & was promoted with extensive tours of the UK, Europe & America as they cemented their reputation as one of the best live acts of the period. Celebrity fans included among others David Bowie & Johnny Depp.
The Godfathers'mob inspired image, raw lyrics & guitar-driven, edgy rock & roll sound was in direct contrast to the clean, synthesized sounds that mainly dominated the mainstream charts at that time & foreshadowed the Brit-Pop/Rock resurgence of the early 1990's. 1989's album More Songs About Love And Hate'(featuring the American college radio smash single She Gives Me Love'and live favourite Walking Talking Johnny Cash Blues') was followed by the death of producer Vic Maile & the departure of guitarist Kris Dollimore, who was replaced on guitar by Chris Burrows for Unreal World'(which included the American radio hit Unreal World'& a searing cover of The Creation's psychedelic classic How Does It Feel To Feel') in 1991.
A provocatively titled live Godfathers'album Dope, Rock & Roll & Fucking In The Streets'was issued in 1992 on Corporate Image & the band toured the globe constantly. With a new line-up The Godfathers released 2 further albums on Intercord Records, a self-titled album in 93 (AKA 'The Orange' album because of its distinctive cover art) & Afterlife'in '95, before the group finally imploded in 2001.
In 2008 The Godfathers reformed their original line-up to promote a vastly expanded 2CD version of their seminal debut album Hit By Hit'& performed a select number of British, European & American dates & festivals together for the first time in nearly 20 years. These included the highly successful revival of their traditional Saint Valentine's Day Massacre concerts with knockout, triumphant performances at The Forum in London in February '08 & Chicago's Metro in February '09.
The Godfathers have become increasingly influential in recent years with Top 5 American artists Local H & Spoon releasing cover versions of Godfathers'classics 'Birth School Work Death'& This Damn Nation'& Mars Volta citing The Godfathers'primal rock & roll sound as a direct influence on their Noctourniquet'album.
'The Godfathers - Shot Live At The 100 Club' a Live DVD/CD was released November 1st 2010 to mark the 25th anniversary of the bands formation & 'Jukebox Fury' The Godfathers' first new studio album in 18 years was released worldwide in March 2013 to critical acclaim & rave reviews.

Visit product page →Spilt Milk is the brand new album from indie auteur Pete Astor, previously of The Loft, The Weather Prophets, and other esteemed acts. It was recorded onto ½ inch tape at the home studio of James Hoare of Ultimate Painting, The Proper Ornaments and Veronica Falls, with James playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and singing backing vocals. 'He was', says Astor, 'an amazing band.' Other contributions came from members of Astor's live band, with Pam Berry (Black Tambourine, Withered Hand) supplying vocals, Jack Hayter (Hefner) on pedal steel, Alison Cotton (The Left Outsides) on viola, and Robin Christian (Male Bonding) and Susan Milanovic (Feathers) on drums.
The album has all the hallmarks of a future Pete Astor classic, drawing together key strands and tributaries of his work over the years, blending intuitive songwriting, acute lyrics and incisive melodies. After many years making more experimental, electronic music Astor has come full circle to the sound that made his name. He explains, 'I'm back to being myself, bringing together sounds that I've used over time to make a record that sounds more like me than me!'
From the opening track 'Really Something' to the recent single 'Mr Music' (a favourite of Marc Riley and Gideon Coe on BBC 6 music) the album's re-connects Astor's bespoke guitar pop with his long-standing embrace of The Velvet Underground's musical DNA. Other standout tracks include 'My Right Hand', a hymn to everyone's best friend, with guest appearances from Tony Hancock, Marvin Gaye, Philip Larkin and a host of ex-girlfriends; the slow burning drama of 'The Getting There' recalling the atmospheres of Astor's 80s kindred spirits, The Go-Betweens. Also, there is the wry drive of 'Very Good Lock', summed up by Astor as 'a description of an injurious medical condition that often affects the male of the species'. Elsewhere there are the gorgeous harmonies of the grown up country lament 'Good Enough', which wouldn't be out of place on one of George Jones'most heartbroken albums.
Spilt Milk is part of a continuum: from Astor's beginnings with The Loft and The Weather Prophets on Creation Records in the 1980s, via his solo work through the 1990s and his more left field albums with The Wisdom of Harry and Ellis Island Sound on Matador Records, Heavenly and Peacefrog, through to his return to solo work with the Songbox album in 2012. As well as this ongoing musical activity, Astor is also Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster, where he teaches, researches and writes about music; 2014 saw the publication of his study of Richard Hell and the Voidoids' Blank Generation as part of Bloomsbury's 33 1/3 Series.
Astor remains in touch, engaged and vital in a way that is rare with someone with such longevity. The album continues the story of one of one of England's most respected and significant songwriters. As Astor says, 'time passes, shit happens; some losses, some gains. Don't cry - but I did!'

BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

BIG JOANIE are Stephanie Phillips (singer/guitarist), Estella Adeyeri (bass) and Chardine Taylor-Stone (drums). The band formed in 2013 and released their first EP Sistah Punk'in 2014 and the single Crooked Room'in 2016.
As part of London's thriving DIY punk scene BIG JOANIE have played with locals Shopping; toured with US punks Downtown Boys; and Dutch Punk band The Ex; and performed at the first UK Afropunk festival.
Inspired by The Ronettes, Nirvana, Breeders and Jesus and Mary Chain, Big Joanie have described themselves as being 'similar to The Ronettes filtered through '80s DIY and Riot Grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis.'
Big Joanie recorded SISTAHS'over several sessions from November 2017 to January 2018 at Hermitage Works Studio with producer Margo Broom. The album title derives from the band's belief in sisterhood and female friendship. One of the main reasons for coming together was to create an atmosphere to be 'completely ourselves as black women and discover what was possible to realise in those spaces.'
The album cover features Steph's mum Joan, whom the band is named after, and her aunt on holiday in Wales. Outside of the band all three members are involved in communitarian activities whether running the festival for punks of colour Decolonise Fest, volunteering at Girls Rock Camp, or leading the Stop Rainbow Racism campaign which works to stop racist performances in LGBT venues. Paean to Wilson is still arguably Vini Reilly and the Durutti Column's most important and consistent piece of work since the demise of the original and seminal Factory Records in the early 1990's.
On this release we have the F4 Heaven Sent tracks released on vinyl for the first time.They first appeared in 2005 via Wilson's project F4, as being the fourth version of Factory Records. Originally it was download-only release, Heaven Sent (It Was Called Digital, It Was Heaven Sent).
A six track CD of personal dedications by Vini ironically the last piece is titled Anthony. Originally this was commissioned for the MIF (Manchester International Festival) where it was premiered in July 2009. Vin had already composed pieces for Tony to listen to whilst he was ill in hospital and it was from here that the project developed.
This release belatedly coincides with the new Paul Morley Biography Manchester with Love: The Life and Opinions of Tony ... Ever critical of Vini's voice, but ever a fierce champion of his talent, the late Tony Wilson would surely appreciate this instrumental tribute by The Durutti Column. Near the beginning of the final night of the Durutti Column's 70-minute international festival tribute to Tony Wilson, A Paean to Wilson, guitarist Vini Reilly announced that he wouldn't be singing: "So you won't have to put up with my awful voice and schoolboy lyrics." If Wilson was with us, he would have chuckled.
The Granada presenter-turned-Factory Records boss spent years urging his first signing to stop singing, and concentrate on the virtuosity that led Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante to call Reilly "the greatest guitarist in the world". Two years after his death, Wilson got his way, one of many lovely touches in a very personal, emotional and often warmly funny musical tribute.
Wilson signed Joy Division and Happy Mondays, yet never gave up on this cult band he adored, working with them even after his legendary label went bankrupt. A complex man, Wilson was an academic thinker who revelled in Steve Coogan's affectionate, Alan Partridge-style send-up of him.
And this tribute was no different. At one point, Reilly known for melancholy launched into something resembling an Irish jig. "Tony loved to laugh," he explained. "He loved absurdities." After the humour came exquisitely mournful music. With Reilly and drummer Bruce Mitchell augmented by bass, keyboard, violin, electric piano, drum machine and trumpet, the band's beautiful pieces reflected Wilson's love of rock and classical.
Reilly's plangent guitar work showed grief's emotional spectrum, from sadness to overdriven anger. As in life, Wilson had the last word, his recorded voice expounding thoughts on socialism with an eerie echo. Silence followed as Manchester pondered the loss of one of its truly larger-than-life characters. Then everybody cheered.' Dave Simpson The Guardian 20/7/09

Greenlight by DJ Manny is the fifth release from TEKLIFE Records.
This 10 track LP is a masterclass in footwork production by one of TEKLIFE's leading figures. Born and raised in Harvey on the South-Side of Chicago, DJ Manny has been footworking since the age of ten. The Footwork sound has developed in unison with the dance style that accompanies it, and Manny embodies this synergy.
DJ Manny is without doubt one of the best dancers on the scene, harnessing control, grace and power in every movement. So when he steps into the studio,he knows instinctively how to create tracks that make you want to move your feet. Instead of relying on chopped up samples, DJ Manny is more inclined to pickup the microphone himself, and this gives Greenlight an original and individual personality. On the opening track titled Way you Move, his flow is soulful and almost verging on melodic. His laid back drawl sounds equally great on club bangers like Life in This Bitch and If U Want It.
As a young man, DJ Manny was the protégé of the late great DJ Rashad, and Rashad's influence reverberates through classic - sounding footwork tracks like Boop Me Down and I'll Hurt Ya Baby. Elsewhere on Greenlight, DJ Manny explores different moods to great effect. Ghost Out is atmospheric and menacing, with a sparse, minimal rhythm and fearsome low end pulsing through siren synths. Life In This Bitch is a defiant statement of self-affirmation, and Zancrash feat.
DJ Taye is uplifting and dreamy, with complex rhythmic patterns evocative of vintage jungle records. DJ Taye makes a significant contribution to this record, collaborating with DJ Manny on 5 productions including the title track.
A fellow TEKLIFE squad member, Taye is a highly accomplished producer in his own right; Expect to hear more from him very soon on HYPERDUB Records.

The brainchild of Andy Crofts from the Paul Weller band the Colorama record label was set up initially as a vehicle to release records from Andy’s own band The Moons but always with the ambition to champion the art of the songwriter and build an eclectic roster of like minded bands and musicians.
