Finally the 2nd full length of one of the most talented ambient / electronic artists of today.

'It's rare that I'm able to give an album my fullest recommendation without trepidation. (...) Bersarin Quartett is one such album. There's nary a misstep, every potential danger has been avoided and smoothed out to present the optimal audio experience for your dollar. (...) Something this good can't possibly be real."" The Silent Ballet (8.5/ 10).

Almost all reviews concerning Bersarin Quartett's self titled debut album chorused this paean.

Four years later he's back with his long awaited 2nd album called 'II'. After turning Bersarin Quartett with 2 befriended guest musicians into a band project in 2011 and some successful and interesting live experiences in several countries it was time to bring the fragments of songwriting of the past years together to a new 13 tracks journey.

Someone mentioned 4 years ago 'This music could be written on a lonely island or onboard of a spaceship looking on our planet. Time becomes a new unit and feelings become more weight.' That's exactly the feeling Bersarin Quartett still conveys in 2012.

References to Stars Of The Lid, Ulver's Perdition City, Bohren & Der Club Of Gore and Cinematic Orchestra are fully justified.

Hailing from North Somerset, UK post/prog-rock veterans BLUENECK have been at forefront of the European underground experimental scene since forming in 2000. They've released four critically-acclaimed albums; toured extensively across Europe with acts such as Cult of Luna and Mono; have soundtracked a number of independent films and had their work featured on NBC, HBO and SyFy channels; and are now mainstays of the European festival circuit (including a triumphant midnight set at Glastonbury 2014).

However their most ambitious achievement - 3 years in the making - is new album KING NINE. Singer-songwriter Duncan Attwood's astonishingly affecting melancholy vocals have always been the chilly heart of Blueneck's music (2006's SCARS OF THE MIDWEST, 2009's THE FALLEN HOST, 2011's REPETITIONS), so fans were surprised when the band released the hushed, vocal-free soundtrack album EPILOGUE in 2012.

However, work had begun by Attwood and fellow bandmembers Richard Sadler and Ben Paget on KING NINE in early 2011, in advance of the writing and recording of EPILOGUE. Continuing their ongoing relationship with Bristol UK producer/collaborator Mat Sampson, KING NINE has been a quiet labour of love - a deliberate, determined commitment to push Attwood's songcraft and singing to the fore. To make the most vibrant, accessible and exciting Blueneck record possible. The band's three key musical influences go some way to explaining KING NINE's ambitious, expansive (but always accessible) scope: the electronica of Boards of Canada; the movie soundtracks of Ennio Morricone and John Carpenter; the melodicism and melancholia of Kid-A era Radiohead and Arcade Fire.

KING NINE's packaging (Vinyl: thick gatefold sleeves, 180g vinyl, etching on fourth side, 16 page booklet, two different vinyl colours, free download code) arguably matches the ambition of the album itself. With new work from acclaimed artist and filmmaker Lasse Hoile (who previously worked with Porcupine Tree, Anathema and Opeth), KING NINE features unnerving scenes of Southern Gothic solitude from America's deep south, reminiscent of (oc)cult detective TV show True Detective'.

CARLOS CIPA is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Munich. He has been classically trained on the piano and currently studies contemporary classical composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. During his teenage years he started playing drums and gained experience as a member of various bands. Experimenting with different styles of music, he turned back to piano as his main instrument, which facilitates to find his way towards composition and improvisation, before releasing his debut 'The Monarch and the Viceroy' on Denovali Records in 2012.

Over the last three years CARLOS CIPA played over 60 concerts all over Europe and shared the stage with like-minded musicians like HAUSCHKA, NILS FRAHM, ÃLAFUR ARNALDS and VALGEIR SIGURaSSON. 'All Your Life You Walk' is his long awaited second solo album. Carlos Cipa created unique contemporary compositions fraught with beauty, tension and emotional intensity, clearly presenting the unique voice of a composer, who is fascinated by classical and contemporary composers ranging from MOZART, DEBUSSY or RAVEL to STEVE REICH and DAVID LANG, but is also inspired by modern bands like THE NATIONAL or MOGWAI.

While his first full-length solo album 'The Monarch and the Viceroy' (2012) is invariably based on the piano, his second publication 'Relive'(2013) - a collaborative EP with pianist/composer SOPHIA JANI - adds sounds from the inside of the piano to the compositions. On his sophomore record 'All Your Life You Walk' he continues this idea by electronically altering these atmospheric sounds and gentle beats, combining them with sounds from various other instruments, before adding them to his distinctive piano playing.

Over the last two years, CARLOS CIPA has been collecting instruments, that were not longer in use: An Upright Piano, a Guitaret - a very rare instrument built by Hohner in the 1960s, previously played as well by musicians like WARREN ELLIS, LEO ABRAHAM or Icelandic experimental band MOž¢M -, an old Framus bass guitar from the 1960s, a marimba and a 'Bavarian Hackbrett' (known as hammered dulcimer), that were getting all dusty in the attic of two childhood friends, an Oceanharp, a Glockenspiel, a few other percussion instruments and an old radio receiver, that belonged to his grandparents.

'All your life you walk' is a contemporary piano album, self-recorded, -performed and - produced in Carlos Cipa's very own 'Beatschuppen Studio'.

Though each piece is framed as a coherent song, it's all pieces combined that create a musical flow, spanning over the whole album, with pieces converging and so-called fragments, that either lead over or build a contrast to the surrounding pieces.

    Classic/ Piano.

Carlos Cipa is a 22 year old composer/musician residing in Munich (Germany) where he is currently studying composition.

Carlos discovered his passion for music very early in his life. At the age of 6 he began taking classical piano lessons with various renowned teachers.

Ten years later after he started playing drums he became more and more interested in composition and improvisation.

In the following years he made lots of experiences in many music styles like jazz, hardcore/punk, indie rock and orchestral music.

Influenced by ERIC SATIE and CLAUDE DEBUSSY his piano music impresses particularly because of its intensity and great attention to detail. It's not only enhanced by his classical background and symphonic film music works, but also by the experiences he made as drummer in different bands.

Besides the piano he is interested in all different kinds of instruments, as experimenting takes an important role in his work. Not playing just traditional concert rooms Carlos so far shared the stage with marvelous acts Like Moritz Von Oswald Trio, Murcof, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Rivulets, This Will Destroy You Or Library Tapes. After he finished his works on final versions of his compositions Carlos Cipa joined the German experimental music label Denovali Records early 2012. His debut full length ""The Monarch and the Viceroy"" now sees the light of day.

Repress: The the new album from Greg Haines, may come as a surprise upon first listen. The cascading strings that played such an important role in his prior work have disappeared, and in there place are intricate layers of tape-worn synthesizers. Any recordings of piano have been transformed and affected until their sound is at times barely recognizable. Moments of quiet, slowmoving textures can still be found, but they are nestled between upbeat, rhythmically-driven tracks that at times could even be considered for deployment on open-minded dancefloors. Although taking a year to complete, the nature of this record is born in its spontaneity and impulsiveness.

The acoustic instruments such as piano, vibraphone and other percussion that found there way on to the album were not the result of months of composing - rather they were entirely improvised and often left completely unedited and raw. At first the idea was these rough tracks, full of noises and hiss, would later be re-recorded, but as the process drew on, it became clear that these kind of loose, half-thought moments were what defined the album - often 'out-oftime' or 'out-of-tune', but always adding another dimension to the hazy, analog world of sound.

This album is the result of one person sitting alone in a room and creating something entirely personal, without the frustrations of organising large-scale sessions for other players or the laborious work of preparing scores. In fact, the few scored moments that were written were later disregarded, with a whole string session with PETER BRODERICK ending up on the cutting-room floor (sorry, Peter!), along with endless hours of other material.

What is left is the condensed diary of a year of exploring old tape delays, analog synths and percussion - some of which played by percussionist/ composer SYTZE PRUIKSMA (a member, along with Haines, of THE ALVARET ENSEMBLE, whose debut album was released in December 2012 by Denovali Records), and some of which played and recorded in a midnight daze at Haines' studio in Berlin. Working in this way led to a whole host of other long-term influences feeding into the music that had never found an outlet before.

The experiments in dub conducted by the likes of KING TUBBY or LEE PERRY and continued by the likes of RHYTHM & SOUND had a profound effect, as did the iconic work of TONY ALLEN and other African composers. The spaced-out soundscapes found on early TANGERINE DREAM and KLAUS SCHULTZE had always had a subtle influence on Greg's work, but now armed with an arsenal of dusty studio toys, those sounds became warmer, richer and more prominent.

The influences evoked here may at first appear at odds with Greg's previous work, but an affinity between the dense poly-rhythms of Africa and beyond have long been an influence for contemporary composers such as STEVE REICH, and their reach and importance on western music is undeniable.

For fans of MARE, early CULT OF LUNA, OMEGA MASSIF, SLEEP & STARS OF THE LID.

LENTO's first album EARTHEN has received great attention and rave reviews, so their long-awaited second album had to be confronted with high expectations - these expectations are easily met and exceeded by ICON.  The foundations for ICON had been laid during two years of intense touring in Europe. In this time, LENTO have started to develop a more chaotic and restructured songwriting. This new level of sound has then been perfected during numerous hard rehearsels in the touring period, and has been deepened in a period of one year, which LENTO spent isolated in their home-based studio. In that year, LENTO managed to cast the molten outcome of their creative process into ten new songs.

Matteo Spinazzè (Zu/Original Silence/Fm Einheit) has led the drum tracking, while Lorenzo Stecconi (Lento/Ufomammut/Lloyd Turner) has taken care of guitars/basses and the final mixing flow at his Locomotore Recording Studio in Rome (IT). Finally, the songs went to James Plotkin (Khanate), whoh has taken care of the mastering process in Philadelphia (US).

The final result are 10 tracks with a total running time of 37 minutes. On ICON, LENTO explore a new range of emotions and feelings, and build up a very deep and dark universe driven by their usual postcore fury. Already with EARTHEN, LENTO convinced their listeners by being one of the most overwhelming and mind-blowing bands of today. On ICON, the song structures have been particularly developed to repeat and strongly strengthen this impression.

"Sára Vondráoe¡ková, known by her stage name NEVER SOL, is a Czech singer and composer based in Prague. Writing her first songs in the age of 15 mostly for herself and studying music for 8 years at the conservatory, the important moment came around 2011, when she has been offered to play her songs constantly at one of the most vibrant Bohemian venues in Prague at Café V Lese.

Focused on piano and voice she shared the stages with friends and musicians, becoming more confident about her own artistic approach and vision. Shortly after her first concerts producer Jan P. Muchow got in contact with her and the two years long composing process of her debut album UNDER QUIET began. To give her songs a frame Sára Vondráoe¡ková created the rather abstract pseudonym Never Sol.

The piano has always been central in her music writing, but in the past years she was more and more gaining knowledge in using music production software. Creating sounds turned out to be another starting point to evolve her music and to get rid of the patterns and techniques taught in her classical education. Sára Vondráoe¡ková is a regular guest singer with Czech musician and Denovali artist FLOEX.

Touring and performing with Floex is an essential influence and of course strong female artists like Cat Power, Fiona Apple, Jessie Ware Or Bat For Lashes keep inspiring her work.

Piano Interrupted 'The Unified Field Reconstructed'

    £13.99

    Piano / Classic / Electronic.

Piano Interrupted, the anglo / french duo formed by Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann is a musical entity in constant reinvention, their music constantly evolving and transforming from concert to concert, record to record.

Studio compositions are deconstructed for live shows, becoming brand new pieces, which in turn serve as a basis for future new compositions, like a never-ending 'mise en abyme'. It was just a question of time then before the pair turned to other producers to ask them to rework their music.

Concentrating exclusively on material from their last LP 'The Unified Field,' Piano Interrupted asked a handful of artists and producers (all from Denovali Records' roster) to reinvent some of their compositions. Oscillating between dub, techno, abstract hip hop, ambient and post-classical, each interpretation offers a completely fresh approach to the work, sometimes barely recognisable, and sheds new light on the infinite directions that Piano Interrupted's intricate compositions can be taken.

It is a reminder of the possibilities and a promise of more exquisite exploration in the duo's 3rd album, scheduled for later this year, based on recordings taking place in Senegal (where Franz spent his childhood) in February. Featuring Remixes of Hidden Orchestra, Franz Kirmann, Origamibiro, John Lemke, Floex, Saffronkeira and Second Moon Of Winter.

    Piano Interrupted 'The Unified Field'

    £13.99

    Piano/ Classic/ Electronic

Piano Interrupted is the brainchild of London-based pianist and composer Tom Hodge and French electronic producer Franz Kirmann.

Coming from two very different musical worlds (electronica, pop and techno for Franz; classical and minimalism for Tom), the two musicians had been friends for a long time before deciding to make music together. The Unified Field is Piano Interrupted's 2nd album. It was recorded in London in the first half of 2013 and features 10 brand new compositions. Kirmann and Hodge began the recording process on Tom's childhood piano, a Pleyel baby grand complete with its own peculiar characteristics and quirky charm.

Recordings of Greg Hall's cello followed, as well as the new addition of Tim Fairhall on double bass. The title of the album comes from David Lynch's book Catching The Big Fish. In the context of his film-making, Lynch explains that if such a field exists then everything within it interconnects in one way or another, so that scenes and elements that may initially seem disconnected from each other emotionally or in terms of meaning, would in fact eventually make sense.

This idea seemed particularly fitting in a musical context also, as it neatly captures Piano Interrupted's core music-making methodology; namely to draw upon multiple, varied styles and influences and bring them into one coherent unifying whole. The Unified Field exhibits many classic Piano Interrupted's traits and tropes, but whereas their debut album Two By Four was all about discovery, the new album is about the deepening musical relationship between Kirmann and Hodge through their continuous exchange of ideas.

If Two by Four was an amalgamation album borne of three EPs, then The Unified Field is a much more focused and concise snapshot of Piano Interrupted's approach. The new album simultaneously refers back to the intense intricacy of early EPs whilst building on developments from Piano Interrupted's live explorations and improvisations as well as the extended recording techniques and filmic sound of the Papa Hedi EP.

Dense arrangements of fragile piano, colourful cinematic soundscapes, organic rhythmic textures and rich, warm strings provoke a diverse range of emotions.

The Unified Field is both a seductive, one-time listening experience and a record to return to again and again to reveal its intricate secrets and subtleties.

    Classic/ Piano.

Recommended if you like Hauschka, Nils Frahm or Max Richter.

Poppy Ackroyd is a performer and composer from London, currently based in Brighton. Classically trained on violin and piano from an early age, she studied piano and composition at Edinburgh University before completing a masters degree in Piano Performance. A long-term collaborator with Hidden Orchestra (Tru Thoughts Records | Denovali Records), she also works with other musicians and artists, creating soundtracks for film, dance, physical theatre and radio.

Her debut album 'Escapement' (Denovali Records, 2012) impressed with its delicate, intricate and beautifully atmospheric music, created using only piano and violin (with the exception of a few field recordings). In 2013 Poppy collaborated with visual artist Lumen to create bespoke films for her live performances. Demand from audiences led to a DVD of the music and visuals combined - 'Escapement Visualised' - being released in September 2014.

November 2014 sees the release of her second full-length album 'Feathers', which she will be performing live across Europe in the months following the release. Through studying contemporary classical piano works and listening to electronic music, Poppy began to develop her own compositional style, using conventional pianistic ideas whilst also inhabiting the world of sound beyond the keyboard, using unconventional techniques to 'play' other parts of the instruments as well.

Like 'Escapement', her second album 'Feathers' mostly consists of piano and violin, but the palate of sounds is increased with other acoustic keyboard instruments - including harmonium, clavichord, harpsichord and spinet – and in the string sections Poppy's violin lines are augmented by guest cellist Su-a Lee. Poppy's beloved, restored Blüthner grand piano in her studio is again the backbone of the album, providing most of the melodies, bass lines and percussive sounds. Other material originated from improvised recording sessions at the Russell/Mirrey Collection of keyboard instruments in Edinburgh. Having previously spent time there dismantling different pianos to understand how their mechanisms work and make sound, she was given complete freedom on her own in the museum to experiment with around fifty keyboard instruments from the 16th century to the 19th century.

Selecting a few instruments for 'Feathers' that produced a variety of different timbres, it was again the other sounds these instruments could make that interested her, when treating them as sources for melodic or percussive material. Recordings of unfamiliar sounds, which include brushing/plucking the strings and tapping/stroking the frames or soundboards, are combined with accidental 'imperfect' sounds that come from playing the instrument, such as pedal noise or the sound of harpsichord shutters opening and closing.

There is an intimate feel to the recordings as these older instruments are not designed to project sound loudly, so the microphones were placed very close to capture the minutest detail. Field recordings add to the cinematic and atmospheric quality of the music: chiming wall clocks in Timeless, traffic noise on Roads, and the wave and pebble sounds from Brighton beach in Birdwoman. With its delicate textures, rhythmic intricacy and achingly beautiful melodies, 'Feathers' is the perfect companion for stories of love, loss, hope and migration.

REISSUE of the iconic second Dale Cooper Quartet full length from 2011
The bizarre Dark Jazz cabaret is opened again. After five years of waiting the 2nd full length of the sophisticated experimental collective from france finally saw the light of day in 2011. Feat. vocals of Gaelle Kerrien (YANN TIERSEN). All lovers of DAVID LYNCH movies, artists like KILIMANJARO DARKJAZZ ENSEMBLE or BOHREN UND DER CLUB OF GORE and blue cigarette smoke in dark bars exulted again.

Métamanoir sees the band shift from their smooth, minimal and instrumental landscapes on the debut record Parole De Navarre to a more lively and rich sound. Always based upon improvisation and sound research, the solo parts of their music are now embodied by vocals.

The Quartet invited several musicians and singers to record, giving a phantomatic sound with oboe, clarinet, whitewashed drones popping out of the songs. The sheer chants of Zalie Bellacicco - who appeared on the debut album - the deep tone of Ronan Mac Erlaine and the crystal-clear voice of GaJesse Osbornelle Kerrien (Yann Tiersen's live show singer) interlaces with the still dark jazz of the band.

Always influenced by classic 50s cool jazz and the more contemporary noise and experimental styles, the Quartet and his guests built a dreamy card castle who swing and grow deeply rooted in fierce strangeness of David Lynch movies. Métamanoir has been recorded in their native Britanny country, deep west of France, a land swept by climatic inconstancy fed by wind, rain and mystery. A place which gives the music an overwhelming but beautiful darkness.

The Dale Cooper Quartet 'Parole de Navarre'

    £13.99

After 4 Years Finally Repressed - Comes With A New CD & LP Artwork.

Formed for the improvisation nights Dynamo in Brest, France, this quartet made of musicians covering a wide variety of musical styles creates a sound that mixes electronic (samples, cuts, sound treatments) and acoustic elements (guitars, saxophone, trumpet). They're playing moody ballads that sound as if they would come out from one of David Lynch's movies.

Like in the films of Hollywood's master of bizarre pieces, there is something like a dark and poisonous colour broken by red thunderlights and blue cigarette smoke. The music spawnes some odd characters and landscapes while the listener makes out some more friendly faces that loom up out of this nowhere place: the voice of Zalie Bellaccico, Milanese streets sounds, a lazy flute, or some distant breathing swim on the surface of this deep troubled waters.

""Paroles de Navarre"" is an invitation for opening the red curtain of this Dark Jazz cabaret made of shimmering and whirling walls. One of the best musical outputs from France of the last ten years and already a classic.

Recommended if you like Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore Or The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.

"THE EYE OF TIME is the Solo-Project of French musician Marc Euvrie. Euvrie's musical development is deeply connected with the French DIY punk and hardcore scene, though he has been classically trained as well. He started to play piano being 9 years old, composed his first pieces with 15 and studied cello at the conservatoire after finishing school. Euvrie was involved in several bands before he began to translate his personal reflection of our complex world into music, which initiated THE EYE OF TIME.

His extensive self titled debut has been released in spring 2012 and exposed a dark look on the present, past and future: revealing an unnatural direction of the human being's existence, embodied by pregnant textures ranging from cinematic melodies, classic acoustic sounds to disfigured drones, noise, electronic manipulation, loops and samples. When putting out the second full length 'Acoustic' in June 2014 one might have been surprised by the consequent change of focus. Looking for the motor, the personal needs to survive, he found himself experimenting with only Cello and Piano. Marc Euvrie's alert critical mind has made him one of the most astute observers of today's society.

September 2014 marks the release of The Eye of Time forthcoming album 'Anti'. Four letters taking us to the most extreme and darkest recesses, influenced by the likes of Third Eye Foundation, Portishead, Neurosis, DJ Shadow, Björk, Sigur Ros, Edvard Grieg, Sergei Rachmaninov or Godspeed You! Black Emperor. ""Anti"" is darker than anything Marc Euvrie has created so far.

The process of writing and recording took him 3 years. Right from the beginning the album was meant to be the dark side of ""Acoustic"", trying to sincerely translate a realistic point of view of our time into music: Industrial, despair, horrific. Where 'Acoustic' was promising a glimpse of hope, 'Anti' is confronting us with despair - pitch-black and constricting. A long cry in the darkest night, turning against the world, which bares all the frustration seeing the end of everything, but being incapable of talking.

The few lighter shades scattered over the record convey a melancholy to something that is already dead. A brief review, seeing the beautiful things we made, the potential of humanity, considering that an end has been reached. ""Anti"" is finishing with a more peaceful song, minimalistic, as if we've accepted our fate. The whole record is construed around the title song ""Anti"". 14 minutes of sweeping industrial music leading into an apocalyptic finish screaming out loud along punishing beats.

The EYE OF TIME's output was never supposed to be understood as resignation. There's no other option then showing society's open wounds and bringing up the most painful subjects, as it seems there's a strong need to face the darkest things before your very ears to finally wake up. And Mark notes: 'I try to put the listeners as down in hell as possible that they don't have any choice then beat the ground and jump to the lights.'

    Ambient/ Experimental/ Drone - ¦ "Blackhaunter is Thisquietarmy's sophomore album initially released in 2008.

Its themes revolve around inner demons and the darker side of affairs.

The cleansing ritual is processed in slow-motion throughout six powerful mood-shifting tracks, while struggling deeply between the realms of ghostly dreams and sexy nightmares.
Extra spicy agony, martial metronomic beats & haunting suffocation included. Expect to wake up from this deliverance covered in sweat... "

"We shift into ethereal gothic oceans, like Godspeed You Black Emperor covering a song by Low, and then next into a journey that feels like a David Lynch backdrop. It's like a relaxation tape for demons, I think!"" - The Big Takeover

"Following in the surrealists'steps, Blackhaunter stands against everything loud, existing as an ever-flowing, ghastly-abstract shout, quiescent, but constantly humming in one's ear. For that matter, thisquietarmy represents the genuine reincarnation of avant-garde, conquering realm after realm after realm."" - The Silent Ballet

"Here is where Thisquietarmy shows its teeth, forming the post rock genre to the dark side.
The author uses dark ambient drone for giving tones, atmospheres and effects that serve the role of the aural thematic, but the methods and arrangements, the sonic strategy to create the atmospheres bases is premise in post rock. It's clear that the vast experience inherited from his work in this genre gave him the ability to create the Thisquietarmy world, a shady and melancholic vision, vividly cinematic and authentically progressive."" - Heathen Harvest

    Piano/ Ambient.

Thomas Köner, explorer, multimedia artist, dark ambient pioneer. Over his long, much celebrated career, he has worked between audiovisual installation works, sound art, minimal soundscapes, and as one half of Porter Ricks. Among others, he has composed film soundtracks and music to accompany historic silent films for the Louvre Museum and the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, who called him a major innovator in the contemporary music scene.

Tiento is a form of keyboard-based music originating in Spain. In his past discography, Thomas Köner has mostly used the piano in a barely recognisable way, as one element of many. However, after a particular radical experience he found himself caught with the piano in his focus, with this rigid instrument which has been developed and solidified in the 17th century just to enslave composers and musicians for centuries to come. To escape and handle the rigidity of the piano, Köner uses his distinctive ansatz to understand music rather as something filling the space of the temporal dimension than as a succession of multi-layered sounds.

For him the musical score of any of his pieces is a priori meaningless, and receives meaning only by placing the notes and sounds at particular points in time in a way which is forced upon them by their inner logic. Like atoms in a particular molecule, these notes ought to have a specific distance and order dictated by certain laws, they might have to occur repeatedly, in order for the musical piece to be physically stable and complete, and thus to be able to exist continuously. For this reason, Köner's first tiento to be released, ""Tiento de las Nieves"" (""snow-tiento""), turned out to be a 68-minute long single piece.

Upon producing this tiento, Thomas Köner had a strong and clear sensation of a large white space. Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen has always been an important figure for Köner. In a quote from his expedition account 'Farthest North', Nansen constructs a synthesis between love and snow.

With this piece Köner builds a bridge between his associated sensation of a large white space and the snowy, foggy landscapes known to him from his various own expeditions, in a quasi dialectic process. ""Love is life's snow. It falls deepest and softest into the gashes left by the fight'whiter and purer than snow itself. What is life without love? It is like this ice'a cold, bare, rugged mass, the wind driving it and rending it and then forcing it together again, nothing to cover over the open rifts, nothing to break the violence of the collisions, nothing to round away the sharp corners of the broken floes'nothing, nothing but bare, rugged drift-ice."" Fridtjof Nansen 'FARTHEST NORTH : Being the Record of a Voyage of Exploration of the Ship Fram 1893-96, and of a Fifteen months' Sleigh Journey'.
