Cinerama is David Gedge's 'other' band, formed in 1998 when The Wedding Present were taking a break. They have released three studio albums and three compilations, of which Seven Wonders Of The World is the third. The Cinerama compilations round up singles and EPs and principally feature tracks that were not included on the studio albums. The CD version of Seven Wonders Of The World also features a stripped down acoustic session that Cinerama recorded for the KRTU radio station in San Antonio Texas in 2009.
Gedge used Cinerama to explore a different musical territory to The Wedding Present and often cited John Barry and Ennio Morricone amongst his influences. Although this gave the band a big screen filmic feel Cinerama also often incorporated classic pop as well as surf music into their sound. Some of the singles on Seven Wonders Of The World were taken from Cinerama's 2002 album, Torino, which was described by Uncut Magazine thus : Cinerama are escaping the shadow of Gedge's illustrious indie-legend past. Torino is a giant beast of adulterous lyrical fantasies, cult soundtrack flourishes and the screams of Steve Albini-engineered guitars.

He's been doing The Wedding Present since they released their first single in 1985, of course, but, since the late 1990s, he's also had a side project called Cinerama whose music is less guitar-orientated and features more in the way of strings, orchestral brass, vintage keyboards - ¦ and anything else from classic pop arrangements that's taken his fancy, to be honest. Last June Cinerama performed live for the first time in what you might call 'all its glory'... with a string quartet, trumpeter, flautist and assorted other guest contributors.
This spectacular event, which was held at London's 'O2 Academy Islington', was something of a one-off, so David decided to film it and record it for posterity. Live 2015'is the result of his endeavours. From the first twang of guitar to the last twinkle of piano keys, this recording sparkles; a total departure from The Wedding Present, as David intended it to be, of course. Cinerama bring to life favourites selected from each of their four studio albums.
With its "musical set pieces and vocal nuances fine enough to rival Bacharach and David", Cinerama's recent studio album Valentina' was described as "a truly sparkling and uplifting concerto for the modern age" by Vive Le Rock Magazine.

This second collection of recordings made exclusively for the programme, both in live performance and in studio sessions at the BBC's famous Maida Vale Studios in London, features the earliest rendition of songs that went on to form the core of the band's second and third albums, Disco Volante and Torino.

Included are six songs that eventually became singles, among them the string-laden epic, Health And Efficiency, number 3 in 2001's Festive 50, and a French vocal version of the ultra sexy Lollobrigida. The album also features Quick, Before It Melts, Number 2 in 2002's Festive 50, and described by the NME as a candidate for "Single Of The Week Forever".
