    World Party 'Bang!' CD

    £6.99

On his previous releases, Wallinger has displayed a social conscience, but never has it taken prominence like it does on Bang!, World Party's third album.

Bang! does contain some glorious music that equals his masterpiece Goodbye Jumbo. Wallinger's preaching never obliterates the considerable pleasures of the music.

Wallinger has often been accused of recycling the Beatles, but the truth is that he can combine the Beatles, Beach Boys, Sly Stone, Dylan, and Prince into a musical style that is distinctive and unique yet familiar.

Bang!, for all of its shortcomings, is as strong an album as any Wallinger has released.

Dumbing Up marks the return of Karl Wallinger and World Party, recapturing the magic of previously acclaimed efforts such as Goodbye Jumbo and Bang!.

During World Party’s hiatus interest in the band has grown after their song “She’s The One” became a worldwide hit for British pop star Robbie Williams.

Dumbing Up reaffirms World Party’s Lennonesque knack for memorable melodies and a hopeful perspective, featuring lead single “What Does It Mean Now?”, the prescient “Who Are You?”, “See The Light” and the anguished epic “Always On My Mind”.

Following on the footsteps of the re-release of Private Revolution, Goodbye Jumbo, and Bang! Dumbing Up will satisfy the desires of all needing a quick adult-pop fix.

The re-issues continue with albums 4 and 5.

Karl Wallinger defined the ornate, Beatlesque World Party sound on their debut Private Revolution, and he never strayed from that blueprint over the next decade, even if he augmented it with other '60s and '70s pop flourishes.

Egyptology finds Wallinger at his most conservative, sticking to the basic late-'60s pop and psychedelia that distinguished Private Revolution and Goodbye Jumbo.

As always, his production is tasteful and subtle, revealing new layers of sonic detail on each listen, and his songcraft is sturdy and tuneful, if not remarkable. There are no weak moments on the record.

It's not flashy or extravagant, and it delivers a collection of fine pop tunes without pretension, and that alone makes it a better album than the ambitious Bang!

    Tracklisting:
    1. It Is Time
    2. Beautiful Dream
    3. Call Me Up
    4. Vanity Fair
    5. She's The One

    World Party 'Goodbye Jumbo' CD

    £6.99

Voted Album of the Year by Q Magazine in 1990.

This excellent follow-up album from World Party is much tighter than the debut.

Dealing with issues from the environment ("Take It Up," "Put the Message in the Box") to relationship woes ("And I Fell Back Alone"), these tracks manage to maintain a hopeful, positive mood without becoming trivial.

In these songs, Wallinger has developed his own distinct style. A great album.

    1. Is It Too Late?
    2. Way Down Now
    3. When The Rainbow Comes
    4. Put The Message In The Box
    5. Ain't Gonna Come Till I'm Ready
    6. And I Fell Back Alone
    7. Take It Up
    8. God On My Side

This debut album from World Party is a solid release. Karl Wallinger's insightful songs deal primarily with the responsibility of the individual to recognize and cope with the problems of the world.

Private Revolution features mainly original songs like the title track, "World Party," and "It's All Mine," as well as a cover of Dylan's "All I Really Want to Do," which remains surprisingly true to the original version.

    Tracklisting:
    1. Private Revolution
    2. Making Love (To The World)
    3. Ship Of Fools
    4. All Come True
    5. Dance Of The Hoppy Lads
    6. It Can Be Beautiful (Sometimes)
