Since the very beginning 13 years ago Supersilent have always moved forward with the greatest integrity.

No albums, or indeed concerts, sound the same, yet there's always a strong signature present. So also with this album. Mostly recorded by Jan Erik Kongshaug at the famous Rainbow Studio in Oslo, this was their first session after drummer Jarle Vespestad lef the band.

This time they have moved slightly towards a more acoustic landscape with Ståle Storløkken, for the first time with Supersilent, playing grand piano.

The album also features some of both the band and Arve Henriksen's most darkly beautiful and lyrical moments side by side with some of their most eerie soundscapes. Comes highly recommended.

In 2007 Supersilent celebrated 10 years as a groundbreaking quartet with their first studio album in almost 5 years. As with ”Supersilent 6” (RCD2029), ”Supersilent 8” was recorded during a 5 day studio session in Athletic Sound in Halden, Norway, the all analogue facility where other great sounding Rune Grammofon albums like ”Supersilent 1-3” (RCD 2001), ”Scorch Trio” (RCD 2025), ”Luggumt” (RCD2040) and ”Raus Aus Stavanger” (RCD2049) were recorded.

From the monumental hardcore blizzard storm of ”1-3” to the elegant electrojazz of ”4” and from the quiet soundscapes of ”5” to the epic ”6”, Supersilent yet again re-invented themselves with ”8”, an album that to a certain degree explored more abstract and mysterious pathways beyond categories and comparisons.

In fact, these sessions turned out to be so fruitful that producer Deathprod finsihed 5 hours of music and at one point considered making it another triple CD.

In the end 68 minutes ended up on ”Supersilent 8”, but it was always understood that more of the excellent music that didn´t make it to the final cut woud appear in one way or another at a later time, and indeed, here it is as a vinyl only release. This was also Jarle Vespestad´s final studio session.

Recorded during three different sessions back in 2011, "Supersilent 12" is produced by Deathprod from hours of recordings at his own Audio Virus LAB, Athletic Sound in Halden and the Emanuel Vigeland museum, known for its 20 second natural reverb.

Since the very beginning Supersilent have always moved forward with the greatest integrity. Supersilent music is collective work, total group improvising, and not a matter of individual grandstanding. They never rehearse as a group and don't discuss the music with each other, meeting only to play concerts or to record.

Every recording and every concert is a unique occasion, not to be repeated, and their music lives in a no-man's-land between the genres, somewhere between avant garde free jazz, rock, electronica and modern composition. It can sometimes appear to be written or at least arranged, again making it clear that these musicians communicate on a high, almost telepatic level.

"Supersilent 12" brings furher evidence to the above as they move further towards the avant garde territory populated by Deathprod and current Arve Henriksen releases "Chron" and "Cosmic Creation".

Quite stunning recordings from the quartet spearheading the new wave of Norwegian jazz.

Colourful, dynamic and more varied than their debut, it combines improvisation and electronics, without a drumloop or computer in sight.

Helge Sten, Ståle Storløkken, Arve Henriksen and Jarle Vespestad celebrate 10 years as a groundbreaking quartet with their first studio album in almost 5 years.

Their music lives in a no-man's-land between the genres, somewhere between rock, electronica, jazz and modern composition.

Yes, we say composition because when listening it's not far fetched to think it could have been, although everything here is improvised, as it has always been with Supersilent.

With 8 they have yet again re-invented themselves, exploring more abstract and mysterious pathways and ending up even further away from traditional categories.

The album is produced by Deathprod and mastered by US mastering guru Bob Katz.

A brand new album from Supersilent is always a special occasion, even more so with 9 as this is their first recorded output since the departure of drummer Jarle Vespestad in late 2008.

This spurred no less than 3 recording sessions and the four tracks that make up this album are all taken from a session at Henie Onstad art center just outside Oslo where all three members rigged themselves with Hammond organs and nothing more.

The result is nothing short of spectacular and probably their most avant garde and otherworldly recording so far and once again shows a band never looking back and always pushing their limits. Needless to say, this comes highly recommended.
