In these days of genre saturation, you know you are in for a treat when a band makes it clear from the outset that they are bringing something a little unusual to the table. One such moment is the intro riff of Black Fume's new EP: a sinister lead melody played on bass!

The devil is in the detail, folks, and it's something of a minor shame that these details are often forgotten about. It's not often since the glorious days of Cartilage that such cool basswork had caused us to literally raise an eyebrow and drop everything we were doing to just listen.

But this is not the end of Malicious'rotten bodybag of surprises- for, rather than playing it safe with the usual old-school references, they go on to explore that brief and hidden era of death metal that almost never was, after the genre's creative heyday and before it all went to shit: namely, the riffing intricacies of their neighbours in Grotesque, Liers In Wait and 'Gardens of Grief'-era At The Gates.

Still, rather than playing it safe and mimicking the riffing, they add an even more emphasized, looser Thrash sensibility not altogether removed from Possessed or Kreator in their prime. Something a little different from what you would expect, then, and all the more welcome for it.

Never mind the name-dropping bollocks, Malicious don't need any of it to justify their direction. 'Black Fumes' is the sound of a band already offering something special, and with the courage to explore the paths less travelled and come back to tell some amazing tales. Join them while you can.

On the quest for new sunless horizons where obscurantism, centuplicated aggression and exacerbated brutality is all about when it comes to death metal, catchiness almost become a mortal sin or the most despicable treason ever imagined.

But prior to the stigmatization of the hooks on this genre we all kneel down before, when musicians were more focused on developing the style instead of reheating its basis (urging themselves for the most extreme of the extreme, just for the senseless sake of it), the creative process did not skipped to lay down memorable songs.

That is something Kever is not ashamed nor worried about, but to compose tunes able to nail on the brain and stick on the memory since a very first listening, which only could be possible acting and moved by honesty and sincerity. Otherwise Eon of Cycling Death would not have resulted so spontaneous, so versatile and so recognizable.

It's not only a bunch of good riffs thrown away, but a modulation of the whole possibilities that as a style, death metal offers to the artist: be it leads, arrangements, licks, vocal patterns or the way of recording the songs. It has been a long time ago since an easy-going release under the banner of death metal, was so accessible and enjoyable without being cheesy, wimpy nor intentioned, on any way.

From the swamping lands of Finland death/grind trio Galvanizer emerges with their debut album 'Sanguine Vigil' after having paid all their dues with several tapes and a 7 - " EP like we were used back in the 90s.

Galvanizer have quickly become one of the most promising underground acts around, their old school approach perfectly combines with their youthful energy and their sound will perfectly please both fans of old school Finnish death metal and modern deathgrind sounds.

The artwork is painted by mighty TG Rantanen, a finnish institution famous for his works with Demilich, Demigod, Adramelech, Depravity and many more.

Comprised by a French and a Dutch, both Metal maniacs, that first met in Milan, Italy in 2005 while studying together, became good friends, and of course, shared their passion for the old Metal sounds of early Thrash and Speed bands from the '80's.

Expect pure filthiness, hypnotical repetitive rhythms that will bring you to paroxysm and a hunger to bang your head, Tom G. Warrior's kind vocals from his hammer ov Hell days and even some Czech tones here and there. All of this will bring you to a more early '90's Scandinavian journey to the sounds of pure Black thrashing mayhem...

And the fact is that listening to the eight hymns included here, it seems as if the guys were playing together since longer than they really are. You can hear (... and feel, that's more important!) the old vibe of early stuff. They pretty much know how to give the right aura to their music and surely, they have a bright future in front, for sure.

DUNGEONHAMMER are what you were expecting and didn't come in the latest years. This is raw, filth induced sickness to enjoy with a couple of beer cans in front and the higher expectation of finishing the experience with a serious pain in your neck. Addictive and greatly recommended!

Every once in a while a new contender emerges to challenge the champions of the past - ¦ Void Terror are that rare beast. A cold breath of hell from the ancient crypts of Kentucky, this is the most ferociously fully-formed debut of 2017 - now available on 7 - " vinyl.

Sloughing forth with an absolutely festering sense of despair, Void Terror thread a fine line between old school guttural death in the early '90s American tradition and serpentine occult magick reminiscent of a more contemporary approach.

Imperious confidence informs their sound with a willingness to strip songs back to the core, a dark essence of purity glaring with the black light of death. At each terrifying juncture, fresh horrors await.

Striking while the iron's hot, Multiversal Abattoir follows close on the heels of Faceless Burial's debut album, Grotesque Miscreation, at the beginning of 2018. Here, the Australian power-trio simply sharpen their blades, possessing unimaginable death metal might.

Theirs is an unremittingly dark and dexterous sound which draws in a variety of death metal traditions: the gooey grind of early '90s Finland, the spiralling surge of classic Tampa, the bazooka-blown fury of old Brazil, the atonal angularity ushered in by Immolation, and the cacophonous caverns traveled by Incantation.

Many things have changed since the 2014 release of the band's acclaimed first full-length album, Abysmal Thresholds.

Main composer and guitarist Matti Mäkelä finally found some time to resurrect his funeral doom project TYRANNY and release one crusher of an album in 2015. A year later, CORPSESSED found a new bassist in Tuomas Kulmala (LIE IN RUINS and PERDITION WINDS).

And over the course of four long years, CORPSESSED completed their second full-length Impetus of Death, an album that manages to top it its predecessor in terms of heaviness and brutality while taking their epic sound a step further.

The second full-length from CORPSESSED is brutal; although it doesn't feel the need to break the 250 BPM barrier to show how tough it is.

Still rooted in the classic sound of the early 90's yet with its own doomy touch, it's really Impetus of Death's uncanny ability to bring forth a quite unique form of creepiness, almost cinematic in places and quite claustrophobic that sets them apart.

As Matti puts it best, 'What can I say? We like to keep things evil and ominous.'

Døden Læger Alle SÃ¥r was recorded at Earhammer Studio, California subsequent to UNDERGANG's three-week U.S. tour in July 2014.

The new material is a blend of the suffocating and filthy heaviness heard on the band's previous two albums, Indhentet Af Døden (2010) and Til Døden Os Skiller (2012), whilst adding more twists and neck-breaking brutality to the mix.

UNDERGANG was formed in the early summer of 2008, with the intent of playing old styled, low tuned and extremely heavy Death Metal.

Since the earliest breath of existence took place, the band has always kept pushing their limits and always stayed active, both in the studio and in live environments.

A visit to the sewer that will bring you all the subterranean horrors and the chaos of pure filth... It's like a horror tale of unpredictable dimensions. That's exactly what these two bands are able to achieve with this split of putrid meat.

On one hand the Danes, UNDERGANG, with their unique brand of heavy and brutal death metal, taking influences from anything insane.

One song takes you on the trip into the aforementioned sewer and you yourself into the mental asylum. They can't stop surprising with the heaviness of their sound and their devotion to play sickness induced death metal. This is an appetiser for their forthcoming fifth full length, and if this song is even more brutal than their previous stuff, maybe that's because of the addition of two new members to the roster, Mads Haarløv (INIQUITY, SWOLLEN) on lead guitars and backing vocals and Martin Leth Andersen (CEREKLOTH, STRYCHNINE) on bass.

Their partners in this crime are the Finns GOREPHILIA, with their obsession for twisted and skilful US-influenced death metal. They can't deny their love for morbidity and suffering, and they do it so well that it hurts. Massive production to show you that the journey into the macabre will make you rest in pain, for sure.
