Sleaford Mods started out sometime during 2006 whilst Jason Williamson was living in Nottingham. Born out of part frustration and part accident, it quickly found its feet as an aggressive verbal onslaught on all that is contrived and connected to the day-to-day hammer of low paid employment and domestic situations arising from that trap.

After a year of working ideas out in both the studio and in live performance around Nottingham, Williamson  moved south and took the cause to London for a couple of years, before returning to Nottingham in 2009.

Soon after that he that he met Andrew Fearn and the Sleaford Mods became a duo. Fearn's first work was on the production of Wank ' the Mods' fifth CDr album. Soon after he started stalking the studio and stage with Williamson. Just after the release of Wank the duo were invited to play a three day festival curated by Nottingham's Rammel Club. During that weekend they were introduced to the Harbinger Sound label.

A meeting which ' a year later ' resulted in the release of Austerity Dogs.

'Divide And Exit' sees Sleaford Mods once again released on the elusive Nottingham-based low-profile Harbinger Sound label. Once dismissed around their native Nottingham as "two skip rats with a laptop" the last 12 months has seen the Sleaford Mods simply knock all their distractors clear out of the way.

The mounting hysteria surrounding their 2013 album " Austerity Dogs" has spread like chlamydia at a teenage house party and saw them topping many 'End of Year' lists worldwide.  Along with a handful of limited 7" releases on labels as diverse as Matador and X-Mist, plus an extensive european touring programme have all helped to solidify their growing reputation as the 'ones to watch '. The Sleaford Mods duo of Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn have also been busy throughout the year working on the follow up album which finally sees a release at the start of May.

"Divide and Exit " contains 14 new tracks all written over the last 12 months and the result is as immediately in your face as its vicious predecessor.  Whilst Fearn's beats and loops will pull you up into the urgency of Sleaford Mods they also allow you to run the gauntlet from delibrate clumsy dance-floor swaggers to full-on punk throwabouts with them. Williamson is let free to spit out his unempathic litany of bile and anger towards the bloated and tedious. His verbal salvos and side-swipes are often savage and brutal , yet at turns, hilarious, but always spot on as Sleaford Mods rage and despair as the country sinks deeper into a cesspool of its own idiocy.

It's an album that doesn't have the privilege of luxury, indulgence or extravaganza and it will strike a resonant chord with many because it simply refuses to compromise. Many critics have attempted to tag and align the Sleaford Mods with other artists and have done little other than to advertise their own shortcomings and lack of knowledge.

If you need a pointer try and imagine an East Midlands take on Suicide that survived rave culture and looked to the Wu-Tang Clan for the escape hatch. The down to earth observations and story-telling of Ian Dury or Patrik Fitzgerald are maybe closer than any other names flung about in desperation.

If you wish to tag and place Sleaford Mods you're only limiting yourself.

Nottingham duo the Sleaford Mods are due to release their third proper'album on July 24th via abstract-punk label Harbinger Sound on vinyl, CD and download.

The album will be housed in a gatefold sleeve designed by Steve Lippert and was mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy. Everything else was done by Sleaford Mods.

'Key Markets' was a large supermarket bang in the centre of Grantham from the early 1970's up until around 1980,' explains Jason Williamson. 'My mum would take me there and I'd always have a large coke in a plastic orange cup surrounded by varnished wood trimmings and big lamp shades with flowers on them. Beige bricks with bright yellow points of sale and large black foam letters surrounded you and this is why we called the album 'Key Markets'. It's the continuation of the day to day and how we see it, the un-incredible landscape.'

'The album was recorded in various periods between summer 2014 through to October of that year. We worked fast as we normally do, the method was the same as the other albums and like the other two, the sound has naturally moved itself along. 'Key Markets' is in places quite abstract but it still deals heavily with the disorientation of modern existence. It still touches on character assassination, the delusion of grandeur and the pointlessness of government politics. It's a classic. Fuck em.'

Sleaford Mods are: Jason Williamson - words Andrew Fearn - music

The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Bravery , Repetition & Noise'

Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a dark dreamy album, rich in atmosphere, layered in waves of sound.

The album's antecedents are clear, inspired by psychedelia as they were by punk's nihilism, pulling both strands into a doom-laden, experimental sound quite distinct from anything that had come before or since.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre uses this as their touchstone, lovingly re-creating the moods and atmospheres of the past.

  • The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Bringing It All Back Home Again' - Cargo Records UK

    'a' Recordings

The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Bringing It All Back Home Again'

    £6.99

This six-song, half-hour CD/VINYL the band's affecting a more rural, lonesome-sounding tone and a moodier, more deliberate pace; the more traditional feel meshes well with Anton Newcombe's twisting of country-gospel lyrical clichés into rock & roll attitude.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

With The Dandy Warhols, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is one of the subjects of the documentary DIG!, winner of the 2004 Grand Jury Prize Documentary at Sundance. DIG! is also a part of the Permanent Collection of the NY Museum of Modern Art. Since the release of DIG!, the band has achieved increasing critical acclaim and recognition, and has performed at Cochella and Lollapalooza in 2005 with special mentions from the NY Times and Washington Post.

A new dynamic is heard on this album mixing the shoegaze/psychedelic sound with more experimental twists on some tracks you might hear PIL (Metalbox), Primal Scream, or even Ornette Coleman.

14 tracks that will twist and turn through the known and the unknown Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Anton Newcombe has been a very busy man these past 2 years, kicking off with the critically acclaimed Brian Jonestown Massacre album 'Revelation' in May 2014. After a successful UK and European tour, the BJM followed this up with the '+-' EP (Nov 2014). 2015 saw the release of 'Musique de film imaginé' (April); an imaginary film soundtrack album featuring the track 'Bonbon' which has, ironically, been used in 'Dheepan'; the Palme D'or winner at Cannes film festival 2015.

In June, Anton and Tess Parks embarked on a well received tour of the UK and Europe to support the release of 'I Declare Nothing'. Anton finished the 2015 with a BJM mini-album release entitled 'Mini-Album Thingy Wingy' . In 2016 The band released 2 singles and the critically acclaimed Third World Pyramid . The band have been touring the world since November 2015, playing Australia , New Zealand , and then in 2016 USA , Canada , Europe , Chile & Argentina.

The  opening  track  titled  Bring  Me  The  Head  Of  Paul  MCCartney  On  Heather  Mill's  Wooden  Peg  (Dropping  Bombs  On  The  White  House)  begins  and  soars  into  an  echoing  wave  of  tambourines  and  trancelike  acoustics,  that  continues  for  12  more  tracks  and  75.87  minutes,  stirring  visions  of  sunny  Californian  communes  to  New  York  City  bars  on  the  Lower  East  Side.  From  Rishikesh  to  Reykjavik,  the  entire  album  provides  provocative  glimpses  into  Anton  Newcombe's  head,  both  the  darkness  and  the  light,  so  clearly  and  so  beautifully  selfproduced. At the risk of further labouring a rather obvious point, with Thank God for Mental Illness, their third collection of absolutely stunning music in 1996, the Brian Jonestown Massacre parallels the prolific and effortless brilliance of the Rolling Stones at their fevered late-1960s peak; the sheer scope of their achievements is stunning, rarely are bands quite so productive, or quite so consistently amazing.

Thank God is the BJM's down-and-dirty country-blues outing, all 12-odd tracks supposedly recorded on a single July day at a cost of just $17.36 .

  • The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Their Satanic Majesties Second Request' - Cargo Records UK

    'a' Recordings

The Brian Jonestown Massacre 'Their Satanic Majesties Second Request'

    £7.99

The Brian Jonestown Massacre's sophomore album does, as promised, spring forth from the Rolling Stones' long-underrated 1967 masterpiece Their Satanic Majesties Request, copping not only Mick and Keith's leering bad-boy attitude but also their their rock-and-roll-circus spirit.

Opening with the brilliant "All Around You (Intro)," a tongue-in-cheek guide to the mind-altering journey ahead, the record is a kaleidoscopic, drug-fueled freakout like the Stones' namesake album, Second Request is painted by Eastern drones and psychedelic tangents, each track bubbling with dozens of sound effects including sitars, mellotrons, farfisas, didgeridoos, tablas, congas, and glockenspiels..

Travelling through the past, darkly, the Massacre arrives on the other side unscathed; their music is too rich to be merely retro, and too knowing to be merely slavish the Stones themselves haven't made a record this strong or entertaining in years.

They have also toured the UK, Japan, Australia, as well as Continental Europe.

Since forming in early 2007, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart have become one of the most talked about pop bands in years. Their distinctive brand of noisy pop is a tidy distillation of all the great noise-pop precedents - early MBV, House of Love, Pale Saints, Rocketship - but with that incredible exuberance and energy that the Pains bring to every song.

They have released a handful of singles on classy labels like Slumberland, Fortuna POP!, Atomic Beat and Cloudberry, each one issued to greater anticipation and even wilder reception. Critical acclaim has come from such varied quarters as NME, The Guardian, Pitchfork, The Times, Mojo, Drowned In Sound, Indie-MP3, Clash Magazine and uncountable others.Following up the band's ace \"Everything With You\" single and whirlwind Swedish tour, we are delighted to bring you their self-titled debut album.

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart is an instant classic, packed with brilliantly-executed pop gems that blend the rush of youthful enthusiasm with crafty arrangements, well-honed tunes and buckets of guitar racket. There is something instantly identifiable about a Pains tune, and it is the essential rightness of their records that has captured the attention of pop fans around the world and raised anticipation levels for this album to a near-fever pitch. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart delivers on this promise with perfect assurance. Smashing tunes like Come Saturday and Young Adult Friction are classic three minute masterpieces that simply beg the be played on repeat. Stay Alive and Gentle Sons show the band can slow it down and still rock it, and Hey Paul is as brash a slice of noise-blast guitar pop as you'll hear all year.
