Originally released in 2000 now reissued on a records Anton Newcombe's own record label with new artwork .
Taking into consideration the last time we heard from the Brian Jonestown Massacre (1999's one-off EP of country-folk ramblings, Bringing It All Back Home Again), longtime fans of the BJM might still be a little taken aback by the songs on this 36-minute EP at first, as this is somewhat of a departure from what BJM shaman and group leader Anton Newcombe has previously written and recorded with a revolving-door membership of sidemen and -women.
Newcombe opted to exercise a clause in his contract that allows him to release material on his own Bomp!-distributed Committee to Keep Music Evil imprint. That is why the title and artwork (with its colorful pinwheel flowers) goes out of its way to imply that there are "zero" songs from the album Bravery included here.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. With The Dandy Warhols, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is one of the subjects of the documentary DIG!, winner of the 2004 Grand Jury Prize Documentary at Sundance.
DIG! is also a part of the Permanent Collection of the NY Museum of Modern Art. Since the release of DIG!, the band has achieved increasing critical acclaim and recognition, and has performed at Cochella and Lollapalooza in 2005 with special mentions from the NY Times and Washington Post.

At the risk of further labouring a rather obvious point, with Thank God for Mental Illness, their third collection of absolutely stunning music in 1996, the Brian Jonestown Massacre parallels the prolific and effortless brilliance of the Rolling Stones at their fevered late-1960s peak; the sheer scope of their achievements is stunning '? rarely are bands quite so productive, or quite so consistently amazing.
Thank God is the BJM's down-and-dirty country-blues outing, all 12-odd tracks supposedly recorded on a single July day at a cost of just $17.36 .
Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre's sophomore album does, as promised, spring forth from the Rolling Stones' long-underrated 1967 masterpiece Their Satanic Majesties Request, copping not only Mick and Keith's leering bad-boy attitude but also their their rock-and-roll-circus spirit.
Opening with the brilliant "All Around You (Intro)," a tongue-in-cheek guide to the mind-altering journey ahead, the record is a kaleidoscopic, drug-fueled freakout ” like the Stones' namesake album, Second Request is painted by Eastern drones and psychedelic tangents, each track bubbling with dozens of sound effects including sitars, mellotrons, farfisas, didgeridoos, tablas, congas, and glockenspiels..
Travelling through the past, darkly, the Massacre arrives on the other side unscathed; their music is too rich to be merely retro, and too knowing to be merely slavish ” the Stones themselves haven't made a record this strong or entertaining in years.

Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a dark dreamy album, rich in atmosphere, layered in waves of sound.
The album's antecedents are clear, inspired by psychedelia as they were by punk's nihilism, pulling both strands into a doom-laden, experimental sound quite distinct from anything that had come before or since.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre uses this as their touchstone, lovingly re-creating the moods and atmospheres of the past.

This six-song, half-hour CD/VINYL the band'™s affecting a more rural, lonesome-sounding tone and a moodier, more deliberate pace; the more traditional feel meshes well with Anton Newcombe's twisting of country-gospel lyrical clichés into rock & roll attitude.

Barrie Cadogan has fronted Nottingham's inspired garage-surf-soul outfit Little Barrie since 1999, and, after moving to London in 2000 to work in a Denmark Street guitar-shop, has developed a reputation as the premier go-to alt-rock guitar wing-man for the likes of Primal Scream, Johnny Marr, Morrissey, Edwyn Collins, Damo Suzuki, Paul Weller (Little Barrie were the backing band on his '22 Dreams'album), Spiritualized, Anton Newcombe and The Chemical Brothers, amongst many others.
The Cobra Lamps is Barrie's first solo project and the self-titled EP . Word of The Cobra Lamps reached Anton Newcombe, singer of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and owner of his own A'Recordings label. 'I loved the way, not just the records he does, but the way he puts them out and the way they're presented, the packaging and the artwork,' Barrie enthuses, and Newcombe loved his EP in return.
Hence the EP's release in July, although there are no live dates planned for The Cobra Lamps as yet. Barrie sees the project as an outlet he can dip into to indulge his more esoteric side every now and then.Checking out of his day job for a while, Barrie's in a strange, beautiful place. And The Cobra Lamps are coiled to strike.

Angeline King and Derek See began The Bang Girl Group Revue (hereafter The Bang for short) in 2009, driven by their love of 1960's soul, girl group and beat music and style. The group became an immediate success on the live circuit with their reinvention of little known soul/ beat gems and a handful of original tunes, written in the style of the 1960's.
While The Bang went through several early lineup changes (one of which was captured on the debut 45 RPM single "Another Notch On His belt" which quickly sold out), it gelled beautifully for the recording of their debut LP, "Soul Shangri-La". The album was recorded at a private all analog studio in the San Francisco bay area, and the group is proud of the fact that there is no digital processing of any sort used on the album. While The Bang would never deny that their music is based firmly in the 1960's, they have seen firsthand through live performance that it is a sound that spans generations and appeals to not only those who lived through the era and mod revivalists but also those in their teens and twenties who may be getting a first taste of the soul of this music.
The Bang made a conscious decision to record our album using not only the technology of the era that their music is drawn from but also, more importantly, recorded it in a way that shows the strengths of the band. The ladies' vocals were all tracked together; the three of them gathered around two microphones (whoever was lead singer had her own mic while the backings where sang into the same mic). This is the way it was done, and it presents not only a complete performance but also the natural blend of the group. There are points where Angeline and Tisha Joy's harmonies are so close they sound as though they are one voice overdubbed!
The music performed by the gentlemen was recorded by the band, together, in the same room. Nothing compares to the passion and heart that a group of musicians create when they are in the same room, making eye contact, watching physical communication. This is the root of the "magic" of the old recordings, and The Bang captures the heart and soul of the era with just enough of a contemporary edge.

'Hey Mr Beatmaker' is the final release from San Francisco, CA's, The Bang Girl Group Revue, and this time around they were joined by none other than Joel Gion (Brian Jonestown Massacre) on tambourine! 'Hey Mr Beatmaker' finds the group going out in full blown psychedelic soul mode; a stomping kaleidoscope of groove, wailing vocals, fuzz guitar, and swirling organ.
The b-side ('Drink In Hand' ) is taken from The Bang's LP and was chosen at the request of several DJ's who demanded that track on 7" wax.
The 45 RPM vinyl single is extremely limited. -

Birdstriking and the other bands coming out of China right now are enthusiastic to explore and find out what's their own music. And so that's a new energy in the same way that rock 'n' roll was new'young people finding their youth culture and expression," says A Recordings founder and Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe.
Like Joy Division forming at a Sex Pistols gig a couple of generations before, Birdstriking was born when guitarist He Fan and drummer Wang Xinjiu met at a Carsick Cars show at Beijing's legendary, now-shuttered rock club D-22. From Birdstriking's first time on that same stage in 2009, the band quickly established itself on the Beijing indie rock scene, becoming one of the leaders of a new generation of rockers born after 1990, growing when China was fully open to the West and now as likely to cite as influences homegrown talent like Carsick Cars and P.K. 14 as imported music like Nirvana and Joy Division.
Birdstriking's relentless live shows masterfully blend tuneful hooks, calculated psych-noise meltdowns, precision rhythmic structure, and brash lyrical frankness. He Fan's impassioned wails are youthful and politically angled, as on 'Monkey Snake', when he chokes out, 'You can control the media, but you can't control my mind.' In fact, the band's charged lyrics mean their debut album, released in 2012 on local label Maybe Mars and produced by P.K. 14's Yang Haisong, was never officially distributed in China.
In 2011, CNN named Birdstriking one of the best young bands in China, and last year the band opened for the Brian Jonestown Massacre in the UK and headlined Hong Kong's Clockenflap festival.

The Blue Angel Lounge sign to Anton Newcombe's (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) label 'A' Recordings (Dirty Beaches, Dead Skeletons, KVB) 2014 sees the return of The Blue Angel Lounge with their 3rd studio album A Sea Of Trees, released on May 2nd. Since the release of their previous album 'Narcotica', the band have been garnering international acclaim, touring the US, UK and France with the Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and also making appearances at the Austin Psych Fest and Roskilde.
A Sea Of Trees sees the band blossom into its own, incorporating the experimentation of their most recent EP and Single releases (Ewig 2012, Walls 2013).From the very first moment of 'A Sea Of Trees', the epic opening track'Winter' wastes no time sonically detailing where the band has been. The bands weapons of choice, guitars coupled with harmonium and singer Nils Ottensmeyer's powerful Nico'esque vocals culminate in genre-bending territory belonging to them alone.
The album marks the bands first worldwide release via Anton Newcombe's (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) 'A' Recording label. Mr. Newcombe joined The Blue Angel Lounge on stage in support of their last record, and most recently invited them to support them on The Brian Jonestown Massacre's 2012 American tour to rave reviews. The Blue Angel Lounge formed in 2006, after meeting at school in their German village Hohenlimburg near the Rhine River. Led by singer Nils O. Ottensmeyer and Dennis Melster, the band took their name from the club in New York City that in the 1960's offered Nico her first live performances in America. Nico and The Velvet Underground would remain an underlying influence on the band.
'A Sea Of Trees' was recorded between 2013 and 2014 at Funkhaus-studio and Studio H1-3 Nalepastrasse, Berlin. Mixed at A Recordings Studio, Berlin. Produced, recorded and mixed by Fabien Leseure and The Blue Angel Lounge.

This strictly limited European release couples two recent solo singles from Derek See (guitarist for The Bang Girl Group Revue and Joel Gion and The Primary Colours), and finds this versatile musician exploring the psychedelic side of his musical personality.
The initial US releases of this records sold out within a few weeks of their release. As for the respective 'A' sides, 'She Came This Way' has been described as being a lost track from The White Album, while 'U Line (Trip Two)' takes on a heavier, underwater fuzzed out blast, all within the confines of a 3 minute pop single. The flip sides, meanwhile, explore the mind trip of Blaxploitation grooves ('McQueen (Slight Return)', and trippy folk rock ('Love Is The Plan')
